GameStrata Launches Today, Tracks Your Stats
Posted by Mark Wilson at 4:40 AM on January 30, 2008
For stat junkies, a new site is launching that will track your every move during online gaming sessions. Called GameStrata, the free site will follow your progress in console and PC games by the currently partnered companies Capcom, EA and Sega. What seems so promising is that the service doesn't just track simple kills or wins and losses. Instead, the site aggregates tons of detailed information, like shots fired per match, total amount of damage dealt or frags per minute.
The downside is that GameStrata registration is currently using a token system, requiring you to sign up in hopes of receiving an invite (similar to the moderate pain it was to first join Gmail). But we tested the service and received an invite with no problem after our registration. Here's the full list of games that GameStrata will be supporting at launch:
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition (PC, Xbox 360, PS3) Battlefield 2 (PC) Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PC) Universe at War (PC, Xbox 360) The Club (Xbox 360) - Coming February 19thGameStrata

DO NOT WANT.
For me, nothing turns a game into work faster than stat tracking or achievements.
In some games it's alright. CS stat tracking per server. Geometry Wars leaderboards. Um... there must be a third one that was good. But mostly I'm anti-achievement. Games should be played for fun, not status.

The only thing on that list that I even play is BF2, and not vanilla BF2, either. If it would track my Forgotten Hope 2 stats, I might be interested.

stats are always really cool.. (was always one of the coolest parts of playing a GTA game actually)
anyways, maybe when this service expands to recording a game i actually play, then i'll try to sign up for it.

Well, I'm in it, and I can only hope that its potential grows into something more mature and breast-having.

What exactly separates this (specifically for BF2) from a site such as BF2S.com?

THe 360 version of the Club but not the PS3?

"Thank you for registering with GameStrata. We would like to welcome you to the only community where your ranking is more important than making friends!
As such, you make may some enemies along the way but we look forward to watching you move up our leaderboards!"
Lack of proofreading aside, this little message doesn't exactly make me want to stick around. I hate penis wagging among gamers.

@GimmeCat: Yeah, me too. xD Took like five minutes.
The only game on the list I have is Guitar Hero III, and you need to link your game to your GuitarHero.com account. That site already tracks your stats. I'm wondering if GameStrata does anything more with it.

I though Xfire when it came out was really good, this looks like it will be better if they can get their foot in the door with more publishers.
Also I wish they had some detail on how the process works for curious minds, I can understand that they want to protect themselves from copycats but still an answer like this is just very lame: "Just assume that we work tooth and nail to get the information".

Meh.
Knowing how much "damage" I delt and how many rounds I fired doesn't really appeal to me.
.
The only stat system that really peaked my intrest was GPGnet's ability to show me a history of my games and their maps, and a list of exactly how many of each unit I've built and killed in Supreme Commander.
Shame it never actually worked. Heh.

Damn... the only game I'm a stat-whore in won't ever make that list. What I wouldn't give to have independant stat tracking in Smash Bros Brawl, since they don't seem to like online competition being tracked or ranked.

@Sportyboard:
Agree!
Can it go backwards? It would be great to be reminded that in 2006 I played Battlefield 2 like a full time job...

I want my COD4 stats! This is pretty cool thing though. I am probably going to go check out my GH3 stats even though I am pretty bad at it.

This is the kind of thing I always wish Valve would implement in Steam. Maybe someday...
