I think at this point, they could can the project and hardly anyone would notice. I can understand a delay once in a while, but once a single product is delayed more than once, I file it under "unprofessional." I don't need a fake release date to keep me interested if the game is good enough.

The way I see it, is if you are unprofessional enough to delay more than once (or a total of over a year), then you are probably unprofessional enough to not know how to make an outstanding game.

Sorry, Free Radical, but unless your game gets some amazing reviews after it's finally released, I don't think I (or many others) are going to give it the time of day.

@Candlejack: That really is not much of a reason to purchase a 400 dollar machine. I am now seriously contemplating picking up a PS3 in the next week or so, but when I look past the BD movies, I don't see a whole lot of exclusive titles, and of those I do see, few pique my interest. And MGS4 is definitely NOT one that interests me at all; hated the other games in the series...always seemed second rate/phoned in with "zany" (to use a nice term) Nipon humor. Cardboard boxes, really?

Uncharted and Warhawk have me wanting the PS3, as well as Ratchet and Clank...but what else? Any game that goes to the 360 will be played on the 360 by me. Haze? Looks awful. Lair? Yeah. I strongly dislike JRPGs and UT3 is a hated shooter.

So, for some of us, the need for a reason to buy a PS3 is a wee bit stronger than one game. Or a movie format.

There's no level of how NOT surprised I am to see this delayed. Everything they've shown of the game looks like it needs work- the Ai and gameplay more than anything else. It was obvious from the last showings that the game was in no condition to even be 'beta'- no way ready to ship this season.

I had heard of this before 2008, but it was just a rumour at the time. I honestly didn't expect the early 08 release.

Plus, at this point, I lost all hope for both the game and the UK studio. Once the title eventually launches, it will be incredibly outdated (mostly in terms of technology). Thanks for nothing but promises.

HAZE has become a HUGE pass for me. I'm taking my pre-order and placing it elsewhere now. I'll have 20 better shooters by the end of '08-'09. Resistance 2 will be out and is bigger and more ambitious in every single way. I'm done waiting around for HAZE. **** it.

More dev time = a better game, though! Not always the case. THere have been plenty of times where many high profile games have been delayed time and time again, yet still end up being the definition of mediocrity. I gave Free Radical 2 delays, and one long delay, but they didn't deliver. TOo bad, so sad, my $60 will be spent somewhere better.

@PapaBear434: I would challenge this with Blizzard and their insane number of delays and changes, but Blizzard is a different case and have proven themselves time and again that they made the right choice.
I really don't care about delays personally, as long as the end product is good, but I do have an attention span for pre hype. I didn't care about the delays for Half life 2 other than I wanted to play it. It didn't make me disrespect Valve, but again they have a proven track record.

It had some nice looking graphics, but I was definitely going to wait for reviews or a demo, as I haven't heard anything regarding the gameplay an the implementation of the story that has me excited.
The story doesn't sound bad but games have a very iffy track record for taking a good story and making it really live in the game. Bioshock, Thief, and Deus Ex all being good examples of it working. Red Faction 2 or Pariah (did anyone play that?)

Ok, I had to go look this up...but this game was originally slated to be released in Summer 2007. There are delays, and then there is just plain nuts. I think a nearly year long delay is about time for the developers to just can this one.

@madman83: Except that Assassins Creed was offered to Sony as exclusive to pay for, which they didn't, way before we saw the first footage (AFAIK). The first few promotional art/screenshots even had the PS3 exclusive branding subtitle somewhere.

I seriously doubt a port of HAZE when PC & 360 versions have been canned - unless maybe 2-3 years later. It would simply not be possible otherwise from a development point of view.

But arguing for/against this is quite pointless, we're not the publisher let alone the devs.

Lets look at the history from about mid 2007:
First a delay, then a PS3 only announcement, then 2 more delays missing 2007 entirely. The game finally looks to release in mid March, and us.playstation.com is running Haze on it's front page banner as of yesterday 1/22. Now it's coming for "All Platforms" and the release slips at least another month and maybe more.

Either the game is messed up, or the PS3 "exclusive" deal went south since last year. Or maybe both.

I've had a chance to play through Haze and can tell you that it NEEDS to be delayed. The build I trialled in November last year had a below acceptable framerate, confusing HUD and was difficult to aim / shoot and it was missing a sensitivity adjuster.

The vehicle sections were also rather clunky.

The graphics were also flat and unpolished, like you'd expect from a PS2 game even.

Don't get me wrong, I like the premise but if they released it on schedule, it would have been an embarrassment.

Well, we've found the PS equivalent of TimeShift.

If this isn't a PS3 exclusive that comes out soon, screw my preorder. It's probably only going to end up like TimeShift, a minor distraction nobody remembers less than a month later. I thought it had a chance to at least compete with Halo and bring some FPS loving to the PS3, but no, this is just sad. We're waiting an eternity.

At least Nintendo seems to feel bad, making the US wait for long for the game. A simple press release with "We apologize to people looking forward to this game", isn't enough anymore.

If the game seems to be functioning properly, then it shouldn't need a few more months. Fix the bugs at ship it, rather than adding stuff, making new bugs, and then fixing them. I don't care if "some spots don't feel right" and yes, any and all flaws("The framerate slows down during some very intense parts, there's some lag when loading, etc) will be pointed out and marked off by reviewers because "it's not perfect". It's a rediculous standard to live up to, but the game looks like it's working, balance the two side(rebels and soldiers) and then fix some bugs, as a little polish. I Know making games is hard, but with a large staff working in full force, a few months is enough time to add twice as many levels. All the game engines are built, people are experienced at level design, what's the problem?

It's a shame I'll have to wait even longer to play this, but if that's what it takes to make it a better game then so be it. One wonders if this game is truly delayed or was simply announced far too early.

Still, Free Radical is the house that made Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and Timesplitters...I have every confidence that this game will still be better than 90% of the FPSs out there.

Then again, I'm finding more and more that I simply don't care for PC-esque shooters, so that's probably why their games appeal to me so much more than titles like The Orange Box (sans Portal).
