The only thing that's annoyed me about Hot Shots was the localization. They've always "American-ized" the games, taking out the Japanese feel that the Minna no Golf games had. Can't blame Sony I guess, 'cause this game IS for Americans. Hopefully the US version has an option to switch it to Japanese, although I doubt they'll do it. And I'm sure you're going to ask: "Why don't you just get the Japanese ver?" Well, 'cause I've been a real cheapass lately and don't feel like spending $65+ dollars. -_-

Ya know, I really liked Hot Shots 1 and 2, but I really don't see where else they can go with this series. The graphical updates seem kinda silly with the character style, and "more of the same" type features such as new golfers and courses don't really do anything for me. Online I guess?

Why do they have to add some stupid wacky catchphrase to the end of Hot Shots Golf all the time for US releases? It's like some exec thinks it's IMPERATIVE that there be some sort of wacky bullshit theme to justify the super-deformed character design.

The gameplay is solid and the graphics are gorgeous, who can honestly complain? Versus yet more Tiger Woods, and the mess Super Swing Golf is...so far the PS3 and PSP are the best consoles for golf..you get both the standard Tiger Woods like 360/Wii owners and on top of it you get Hot Shots.

Ewwwww. It's all-Americanized.
I'm not a fan of the way developers add silly taglines and big hi-res logos for Western markets, as if expecting that to raise the game's profile and make it more appealing. If anything, I'll probably favour a Japanese import over this.

@y2kenjination: Hot Shots 1 was not Americanized. And it sold really well. I don't get why they thought they had to start doing it to sell games.

I probably will not buy Hot Shots 5 if it's Americanized like that again. With the PS3 able to play imports out of the box, why not buy the original?

I'm not against basic localizations for language and dialogue, but the American characters in the Hot Shots game are always universally really annoying.

I have the Minnano Golf 5 (or Mingol 5 as they like to call it) version and it's great. The new system for hitting the ball is, I think, MUCH better than the old tried and true slider bar style. A bit harder to get exactly, say 75% power and such, but it still feel better and feels more natural (if a video game can do that...).

Unfortunately, for me to play against US players online I probably need to get the US version huh? Too bad. I've played against Japanese opponents and got my ass kicked...hard... (>_<) Oh well...

Oh, as for courses, they open at regular intervals just like all the other games both on PS2 and PSP. Though I kinda miss the "dress up" aspect of the PSP games.

Love the series, still somewhat play Hot Shots 4 every so often (I'm not that good, but oh well) and I don't care if it's Americanized again. FORE! Had a pro-wrestler for a character and was lots of fun to play (I'm sure he was on the Japanese version), especially to get pars and bogeys when he throws a chair around. Now in 5, hopefully they give somebody the Charles Barkley golf swing. That alone = instant buy.

I bought this back when the Japanese version came out. It's fun, but it doesn't have anywhere near the character customization that I loved so much in Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee for the PSP. Still, a great game.
