Hummer Concept Car Looks More Than A Bit Warthog-y
Posted by Michael McWhertor at 1:46 PM on January 9, 2008
It may not look quite as Warthog-y as WETA's own fully-functioning recreation of the ubiquitous Halo ride, but Hummer's HX Concept certainly looks like it will appeal to those raised on the adventures of Master Chief. According to our brothers at Jalopnik, coming from their coverage of the Detroit Auto Show, the Warthog-esque concept vehicle features removable roof panels, fender flares and doors, but no mention is made of support for mounted turrets. A rich gallery full of pretty pictures and details reside at Jalopnik.

I've always wondered what a triple barrel roll from a 20 degree turn would feel like in Real Life.

there has been a similar concept to this for at least the last 10 years. so i doubt halo really had anything to do with the looks of the car. I believe it was jeep that last did something like this.... now i have to go look for a Car and Driver magazine from 1995 lol.
oh and halo is bad. just felt it was appropriate to put that jab in their for all the fanboys lol.

Now we just need a gun turret and we're good.

The hummer has become a joke. The H1 was the closest to an actual military Hummer. Since then it's testies have whithered to the point where it is nothing more then a stylized Suburban. Halo sucks to.
SMACK!

What no mount for my Bravo? ;D
Its nice how in the pics it seems that this humvee you can take off parts you dont need. Im sure thats going to be pretty useful if the military starts using these. Although it looks like the passenger capacity is cut down from the tired and true design.

I think this design has been floating around for a few years now, might not have always been Hummer trying to get it to market. I saw one of them a few years back at the DC Auto Show but don't have the pictures anymore as the camera (and my PSP) got stolen a few days later (not in DC, mind you).

Actually, I don't really know the big deal with having cars made that look similar to a Warthog when they have an actual, drivable Warthog now. It would be awesome to drive that thing...

Peugeot made an off-road concept car that looked a lot like a Warthog a few years back. In fact, they even called it the Peugeot Hoggar:
There was also the VW Concept T:

Too bad it'll still cost you a pretty penny to kill yourself with one of these with rising gas prices and the Hummer's notoriosly low MPG.
Also, I am not a fan of Halo either, but it doesn't mean that you guys have to be jerks about it.

Buying a Hummer is one of the most environmentally irresponsible things you could do. Granted, this model doesn't look nearly as gas-thirsty as its big brother, but Hummer is all about overly extravagant transportation for fat wallets.
I'm definitely not the most environmentally conscious person out there, but there's a big difference between being apathetic and just flat out spitting in the Earth's face.

Seeing as Hummer is a translation of 'turd with wheels', I'd quite like to own this turd. As long as they keep the invincibility of the first Halo anyway.
