More of Eye of Judgment Coming to Japan
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 3:00 PM on January 11, 2008
The Japanese PLAYSTATION Store (their caps, not ours) is making a THE JUDGMENT BIOLITH ~ The Machine God's Mutiny (ditto) available for download starting March 27. That's a change from the original February release date. This is the second entry in THE EYE OF JUDGMENT series. A third expansion pack in the series will be available this summer.

So have they fixed the fake card issue yet, or are they ignoring it and hoping the bulk of the players won't be googling them up?

@Kyle81:
I'm willing to check it out then. Just don't find myself wasting money on extra cards but i'm willing to be open minded.

@Shindokie (psn and xbl): Game is really nothing like Yugioh or any other ccg. It's more like a table top board game

Really? I got myself in yu gi oh and then like a month later i got bored. I like it for the camera and all but i'm just worried about it lasting to my appeal. If it is i'm willing to do it. Just give me sometime to get some money.

@Shindokie (psn and xbl): You should. I bought it because I figured what the hell, I want the camera and this is just 20 bucks more, and it's surprisingly good.

Sony still forcing you to spell Playstation in all caps? Absurd.

I'm excited about the expansions! The game is very cool, but I'm hoping some of the new cards offer maybe some movement techniques or something ... just to spice it up a bit. I know I'll buy a ton of cards, again ^_^;

This game is actually really cool, and I am glad some DLS and some new card packs that were also announced are going to keep it alive hopefully.

The game is genuinely good. Total sleeper hit, IMO. There are issues with the lighting, and the UI sucks, but in good conditions, this game is absolutely amazing.

I think I will finally buy some more packs when the expansion hits. Does anyone know if they have any plans to somehow prevent copying with this set?

The fake card issue doesn't bother me except if the expansion is solely supported by card sales. If you have to pay for the expansion as well anyway, then it sounds like happy hacking experiments abound.
I also want them to fix the damn online interface. It's REALLY irritating how you can't set up an invitation-only room, making it so that by the time a friend accepts your invitation, some other guy's jumped into your game lobby. That, and the ranked match I played took over 7 minutes per turn for the server to process for some reason.

@Sixtail: After you play the game for a bit, you'll realize the card copying thing really isn't that big a deal. The game is deeply complex; if you just print out a full deck online, you'll probably still get whomped by somebody with more experience even if they're using a base deck.
That said, there are a few measures in place to curb cheating. The first is that, during online play, the game tells you what is in your hand. You can't just grab the highest powered card in your deck. Your deck can also only contain a limited number of duplicates, and there are rules regarding how many of each type of card you're allowed.
By the time you get good enough to beat opponents online, you'll probably find you don't want to win by cheating.

PS: Can't wait for the expansion!

@Chef:
I dont have the game, but I remember reading that a patch came out which supports an invitation only room. It came out sometime in late december. Boot up your game and give it a look.

Huzzah! Now lets just hope the fucking stores keep a proper stock of the cards. Seriously they should always keep the card boosters / starters right next to the bloody game.
I still kinda want slight adjustments to the rules though along with a bigger playing field.
Great game nevertheless though!

@Witzbold: No doubt, it was nearly impossible to find boosers anywhere in my area for weeks. If Wizards of the Coast can keep supply up, this can only be a good thing.
I'd also say that if the playing field were bigger, we'd end up with a very AWESOME update to Archon, woot!
Oh, in case people are unfamiliar: [en.wikipedia.org] one of the best C64 games going (and note the date, who here gamed in 1983? Woot!)
I fire up my Eye about once a week, or so, to play against the PS3, which is pretty darn good even on the lower settings. Haven't even ventured into ranked games, but have played my friends more than a few times...
Oh, and anyone who says that copying cards = cheating hasn't played the game seriously enough. Technically, it is cheating because you're cheating the companies out of revenue, but that's where it ends. It's been said many, many times that you can only have a limited number of duplicates in hand and that the PS3draws your hand for you. The biggest thing is that if you put all the powerful cards in your hand, you'll get whomped because your opponent will take the 5 squares to win before you can field a single card...
Still though, isn't this just for Japan for now? Nothing for the USA?

Sucks that this game isn't as accessible as it should be, given all the vocal support their entire player base has. (all 5 of them!)
I wish I could afford all the necessities to play. :|

For those that buy cards and don't want to put out the $400+ to get the whole set, the eojmanager.com community is a good way to trade the cards you have that aren't helping your deck for cards that would work well in your deck. Considering most people just want a better deck, and not necessarily ALL of the cards, it's a good option.
After entering the cards you are willing to trade, and selecting all cards you'd like to have, the site can generate possible trading matches and and you can offer some trades to folks and see if they bite. It's pretty well done.
Also, blackcubic.com is a good site for some strategy and card reviews.

One more thing, if you want to play against another player live you will need to buy a theme deck or at least 30 additional cards through booster packs. Also, you can't buy the starter deck seperately so if you want to have an even match (same decks) you're going to have to build matching ones or buy a pair of theme decks.
The game only provides enough cards for one player to play against the computer opponent or online out of the box.

Forget about preventing copying. It won't happen. There's nothing they can do with the visual design of those cards that would disable copying while keeping them read reliably by the PS Eye.
Unless they come up with a way to uniquely register and identify every single card through PSN it's going to happen.
Furthermore, card copying is a non-issue as gameplay goes as deck rules control what combinations of cards are actually allowed in your deck.
That said, it would be nice if the cards themselves were cheaper. By most estimates you're looking at $300+ to obtain all 110 cards in the current set. Theme packs of 30 standardized cards (all of them contain many duplicates and a unique hero that can only be obtained from the theme pack) cost $15 and booster packs (1 rare or ultra rare card, 2 uncommon, 5 common cards) are $3.99 each.
Each expansion will only increase that figure.
Of course, it's completely possible to play the game with nothing than the 38 (30 standard cards in the starter deck + 8 random from the include boster pack) cards that come with the game, but considering duplicates you really only get 20 unique cards from the starter.
Eye Of Judgement is a nice concept, but warned. You're probably looking at paying the equivalent ($400) of half a dozen full price games or a second PS3/360 if you want to obtain a full set and play the game in it's entirety.

"A third expansion pack in the series will be available this summer."
Nope, but a second one will. The game itself isn't really an expansion pack, is it?

I do have to admit that I'm a recovering Magic the Gathering (back in its first edition days) addict. I have to admit that I did buy the game, each of the starter decks, and an entire box of booster packs.
I ended up doing a statistical breakdown of the cards I got and the amount of coverage of the entire set of available cards that I got by doing so. How sad am I? :)
I really should finish writing up that blog post.
