New Gaming Peripherals from Wolfking
Posted by Kotaku US Edition at 4:20 AM on January 8, 2008

Wolfking unveiled its MVP Series Warrior Gamepad and Trooper Mouse at CES today, the biggest change from previous incarnations seems to be a matte black finish.
To be fair, this enhanced version of the Trooper Mouse has a programmable frame rate of over 7,080 frames per second, high speed motion detection, and a patented Rapid Fire Switch, which will allow gamers to click up to four times with a single button push. And the ergonomic design and LED sensor displays do make it look like a good, high-end gaming mouse, although for an MSRP of $US 59.99, you'd expect it to be.
The MVP Series Warrior Gamepad (MSRP: $US 34.99) appears to have minimal upgrades from the original, with the same 55-key layout and USB 2.0 connectivity as its predecessor. Wolfking does say that this version has a high level of customisability, though.
Both peripherals are available in that sleek matte black, with the option of a red, blue, or silver accent gradient.

When I loaded Kotaku just now I swear it looked like a waffle iron w/power block for about 5 seconds, then I read the headline. This amused me more than it probably should have.

I think the mouse wouldn't be too bad, if it is as ergonomic as Logitech/Microsoft's mice are. Also, it costs less than I thought. I paid that for my MX500 back then.

I think I will wait for the n52te instead if that thing ever gets released

I can see how it would be useful for the serious FPS crowd, but my computer area is already way too crowded. It's interesting to see that the hardcore market is now large enouh to justify such specialized items at an affordable price.

I'm considering getting this duo. Ever since my Logitech MX1000 died I have yet to find a mouse I like quite as much, and having a split ergo keyboard is awesome for typing, but not great for gaming because a lot of the keys are harder to reach with one hand.

I think the nostromo n52 or Cyborg Command Unit are much better options than this, but oh well.
@TTCFCL:
Yeah, that's why I bind 01 through 05 to numbers 1-5, and I bind WASD to the D-pad. Takes a bit of getting used to, but it's not like you can go in opposite directions at the same time anyways, so why bind up 4 keys to it? Of course, it means i have to bind jump to something other than button 15, but that's cool.
Also, I'm good with my 4 button logitech trackball, or my expert mouse (a kensington trackball) for RTSs.
Hrm, I guess the preview feature is back.

I'm lefty and have been using a mouse with my right hand forever.. Can't even fathom how I'd use a mouse with my left hand, ie. you adapt.
I'd like to see this mouse/mini keyboard combo for the PS3, would eliminate any need to upgrade my PC for a couple of FPS and RTS's.

@DaiMacculate: I saw waffle iron too. That's a pretty snazzy looking keyboard, even though I don't play games that require one (not because I dislike them or anything). Does anyone say snazzy anymore?
Nice job on the article, Tori.

I love my MX Revolution and run-of-the-mill keyboard and if they never fail, I see no real reason to replace them.
The gamepad (which I will call a gamedisk from this moment forward) is probably a little too hardcore for me. Also, I feel it's too gimmickly, like those Z-Boards, but at least those have a regular US101 pattern for other uses.
@Arthois: Lefties can play the regular left-hand on WASD, right-hand on Mouse perfectly fine, my little brother can cope. So can you.

this is the same crap they've been selling for the past 3 years.
The last company to do anything truly cool for game controllers was Splitfish and they look to be going down the tubes. Everything else is just minor cosmetic variations on established control systems. Logitech used to innovate as well but lately they are being much more conservative.

I love the n52 but it's fatal flaw which makes me want to buy this, is that the n52 does not have the row of number keys above the WASD keys. I need to be able to switch weapons on the fly, people! I was excited to see a new version being made, but it epic fails seeing that it is the exact same as the n52. The best thing about the n52 though is the Dpad for your thumb. You have no idea how great it is to have your lean/jump/duck right there. I want to see a wolfpad with thumb-located Dpad.

I like these types of controllers, don't know how well the wolfking stuff works tho.
I got a Saitek Cyborg Command Unit that I use with my mouse and a [www.ikea.com] for pc couch gaming, it is quite teh win.

Hey, did they just take the pink stripe off of it and use that to justify claiming that this version is for boys? I hate when they do that...
@Achaemenid:
I had a wonderful 4-button scroll-mouse from IBM that was _really_ ergonomic. When it died and I was unable to find another copy, I realized just how uncomfortably flat the so-called "ergonomic" mice are. All too often I find that if I leave my hand resting on them and stop forcibly holding my fingers up, they'll naturally curl just enough to register button-pushes. That IBM mouse was about 2" tall, and had a really steep drop where the buttons are.
@Akin:
I was wondering about that myself. It stopped at least a week ago on Kotaku, but then I posted once on Gizmodo and it worked fine. Then it stopped working there, and now it's working everywhere.
