Peggle Coming To XBLA
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 7:21 PM on January 9, 2008
And the Xbox Live renaissance continues. Ikaruga and Rez was good enough news as it was, but Peggle? Appears so! An ESRB rating for a 360 version of the game's turned up, which while not guaranteeing any kind of timeframe does at least guarantee an eventual appearance. Which is super-great news. Peggle on a big TV while sitting on the couch has "good times" scrawled all over it. Also appearing are listings for XBLA/Xbox Originals versions of Bliss Island and Ultra Bust-A-Move, but after Peggle we don't have enough care left in us for them. Sorry.
Rumor: Peggle, Bliss Island and UBAM to XBLA [X3F]

@Karlott:
Thats the cs_office map in Counter Strike Source... though, the G-Man with funny expression was probably something done with Garry's Mod.
I got this game for free when I reserved the orange box, its alright but is it worth buying? Not really. =(

@Scazza: Do you really, really, REALLY want to play Goldeneye in a world where we have Halo 3 (among other console FPS games that are infinitely better, despite fewer overly glorified memories)? Oh, I'm sure it'd sell and I'm sure people would play it. But that wouldn't make them any less psychotic.

Why do I hear Beavis' laugh (from Beavis & Butthead) coming out of G-Man in that pic?

Although not the most reliable site for info as far as I know, [xboxevolved.e-mpire.com] has a little piece speculating that Goldeneye is coming to XBLA, would be a dream...

Ultra Bust-a-Move? Awesome! That's one of three games I'd download if it ever showed up as an Xbox Original (the other two being Fatal Frame 2 and Marvel vs Capcom 2). Now, if only I knew what Peggle is. I have to admit I've never even heard of it until now.

He is enjoying the game a little too much in that picture. One has to wonder what his right hand is doing.

I need to know details of that picture. Not because of the creepy looking polygon guy, but because of that "Beefy Computer" in the background. It looks EXACTLY like the old Dell tower I had as a loaner for a whlie, and it weight about 2.8 tons. So the fact it says "Beefy" on the side made me laugh hysterically.

Holy cow, that G-Man just gives me the creeps everytime I see him do something NORMAL. And I was about to go play some Orange Box HL2 as well. ;___;
As for XBLA games, most of the games offered so far aren't my cup of tea besides Puzzle Fighter and SOTN, both which I have from PSN since I'm more accustomed to the PS controller for those games in the first place. Does the Live outtage affect downloading/ buying XBLA games? I've never done it before, and all I have is Gold Subscription and no points.

The great thing about Peggle is that at first you think it's mostly luck. But after playing for a while you begin to realize that by choosing the correct character for a level and actually examining the level itself to plan your shots, there is a good amount of skill involved. Luck will always play a part but careful planning can get you some pretty high scores.

@cdammers: And I think the XBLA pricing is far more reasonable than that of the Virtual Console. Especially since XBLA re-release offer more than the VC counterparts. Playing Streets of Rage 2 with my buddy that I've been playing it with 14 (?) years ago, but now over a distance of 500 kliometers is just pure genius.

I don't understand why people are still so down on XBLA. Yes, it was mostly crap for the first year, and Microsoft made a lot of promises that they couldn't keep. But there are a ton of great games on there now - ports and original IP - and I play XBLA titles almost as often as I play "proper" games. And you get to try them all for free, so you're never going to be ripped off. The only downer I can see is that online usually sucks.

Hey all,
That picture has been taken from our site here: [www.rockpapershotgun.com]
Obviously RPS is unrelated to this story, so we don't expect any kind of namecheck, but it's a real shame that Kotaku haven't given any credit to Dartt (www.darttweb.co.uk), the reader who created this great image.

I was literally about to buy it for the PC. I've been off work ill for the last 5 days and would have some stir crazy without pegggle.
It's incredible how a nasty flu affects your abilities to play 'proper' games. Not fast enough to play CoD4 and headaches too bad prevent me from finishing Mario.
I'm sure I can hang fire for the achievements and big screen ness

I really hope Ultra Bust a Move isn't the Xbox original because $15 is too steep compared to standard XBLA pricing, not to mention the art was horrible in that one. I've been craving a proper XBLA version from the start!

Crud. I finally gave in last week and bought it from the popcap site for the Mac for $20. And it will probably be only $10 on XBLA AND have achievements. I have to say I will be tempted to buy it again. It's kind of cracktastic.

@Grave: Exactly. I dusted off the old 64 to play it again, and promptly returned the dust to it's origional position and locked it away forever. I should have stuck with my wonderful memories from childhood instead of jading them by playing it again.
