@Moonshadow101: This isn't a new thing. WoW has a 400+ page huge guide, maps and everything as well.

They're just going to nerf all the suggestions they make anyway. It's basically them charging you $15 for a virtual parrot...which if I got the game I'd consider...because you NEED a parrot if you want to consider yourself a real pirate!!

This reminds me of the little bonuses that Gamestop throws in for preorders, like the exclusive sidequest and in-game weapon for Lost Odyssey they're giving out soon.

A strategy guide for an MMO? Are they serious?

When I first read this, I thought it was being bundled with Bonzi Buddy.
I was about to boycott the game.

What the fuck is this? This reads like an advertisement! Since when is a guide news? Prices? Not one, but two links and a plug for best buy as well. This is journalism at its finest.

Hmm... A parrot. Maybe that'll make the game less God-fucking-awful.

Ah yes, the strategy guide for the MMO also commonly known as the most worthless thing ever.

@NeoAkira: Not so much the guy, but the girl, yeah. Not that it'd be a coincidence, what else is synonymous with pirates these days?
Lol, parrot. Eh, I'd rather a cat as my ship's mascot animal. I'll call him Trim.

Am I the only one who thinks the Middle guy and Chick on the left look a little like Johnny Depp and Kira Knightley?

Anybody know if they ever fixed the non-ship-combat-being-about-as-fun-as-powerpoint bug?
I got bored and thought it wasn't worth what I was spending during the open beta. It may have been free, but the time:fun ratio was skewed towards time.
Eh, maybe I should just give up on MMORPG's. The more I try them, the more I hate them. Soon I will be frothing at the mouth. "MMORPG? ARRRGH THE VERY CONCEPT FILLS ME WITH RAGE." shall be my standard response to all articles about an MMORPG.

I got this guide. It's ok. I wish I had purchased the actual book for $10 as opposed to the digital $15, since they don't seem to be at all interested in updating the information the digital guide has.
But now I have 2 parrots! The red one from the prima guide and the blue one from the preorder.

@NeoAkira:
The girl has breasts, she can't be Kiera Knightly. And the guy doesn't look anything like Johnny Depp.
No my friend, these do not look like characters from Pirates of the Caribbean, but rather like characters from Pirates.
That is a very important distinction.

The guy on the right looks like Kurt Angle. He's the only pirate to sail the seven sea with a "broken freakin' neck," after all.

You'd think with having two links Kotaku could at least get the relevant links in the story. Nice advert by the way guys.....
I had no idea there was a strategy to playing an MMO......I always thought you just stayed up till 3 in the morning every day grinding away in your underpants while people slowly leave your life and you slowly crawl towards the ultimately empty goal of hitting the level cap before then wondering was it really worth it…. *cough*

Yeah strategy guides for MMO's are largely worthless. They become stupidly out of date rather quickly (the same can be said for manuals, it's always fun to flick through the manual from my launch copy of WoW and laugh at some of the things in there) and most of the information in them is available for free online anyway. Wowhead pretty much serves all the referencing needs I could ever need for WoW and it's pretty much always up to date. Plus there's also WoWwiki for more specific things like boss strategies.

Is it just me, or does Prima always, ALWAYS screw at best, a few things, at most, a sht ton up in their guides? Not once have I bought one and not run into a WTF moment when the game and the guide didn't match up. Especially with Ninja Gaiden Black. It kept saying there were cat demons all over, when I didn't see a damn one all game until I replayed it on hard or whatnot.
