What's with the Lucario hatin'? IMO, Mewtwo lost a lot of his charm after Pokemon Red/Blue, especially since close to everyone used him as a sweeper. I'm personally glad to see a change. Pearl and Diamond represent!

Also, anyone who has seriously played Melee can tell you that Link/Young Link, Fox/Falco and Capt. Falcon/Ganondorf are far from 'the same.' Even if their movesets are similar, speed, agility and power make all the difference when it comes to playing styles. Of those characters I prefer to play as Link and Fox, but hand me a controller with Young Link or Falco and it's an entirely different ballpark. One's fast but weak so you have to stay closer and get more hits in before you go for the kill, while the other's just too slow for my liking. All in all, I'm sure many competitive fans of Melee are glad to see these 'alternatives' return in Brawl.

Actually, both Marth and Ike have Counter, and Ike's Eruption looks quite similar to Marth's Shield Breaker.
Even so, I think they will prove to be different. Aether, at least, is different from Dolphin Slash.

I know this is a little off topic, but if anyone here is looking for a fun smash style game to tide them over till SBB comes out i wouls recomend Powerstone for Dreamcast or PSP, it mixes the street fighter, and Smah gameplay styles, and pulls it off perfectly, I hope they create a Powerstone 3 for Xbox360.

Y'know, I don't think some people understand just how exactly difficult integrating a character like Ridley into this game and making him balance would be... he's a bit large.

For instance, if he was the size he appears to be in his boss battles, I would destroy him. A lot. Because his size makes him an easy target for Jigglypuff's Rest move. The larger the character, the easier it is to hit that.

99% of the whiners haven't actually PLAYED the game yet, so to them I say stuff it and wait until you actually play it. You may be singing a different tune, and if not just don't play it. This decisions about which characters are in the game rest solely with the developers- we're lucky to have the amount of input that we even did. This is their world, and they're kind enough to let us play in it. Show some respect.

Also, Ike and Marth are completely different. It's like saying Link and Marth are almost the same because they both have swords. Ike and Marth share no attacks. Ike is slow and very powerful, while Marth is weaker but much quicker.

Also, don't judge Lucario from a bad streamed youtube video where all he does is spam the B Aura Sphere move. That's the only similar move he has.

@ZeroTheFool: Stuff like the pinball game and crap like that. Don't get me wrong I think returnofthehero is overacting but I do agree with him on some aspects. Overall I'm pleased with the final roster but there was a lot of potential for less "samey" characters. A golden sun character, Ridley, guys like that.

@thereturnoftheufo: Making Mewtwo's teleport move physical and a quick dash is completely different. The big advantage of teleport was actually being able to transfer to another location without being hit in the process. Speed and gravity settings hardly make him a clone. He has a completely different set of physical attacks, and is less floaty. He has 3 B moves that are different. Hardly a clone of Mewtwo. The added weight and physical attacks that will actually hurt, as well as be faster, make him just about completely different.

"Animal Crosser", as you put him, wouldn't be a good character anyways. Get over him, he doesn't need to be fighting. R.O.B. is apparently the new surprise Nintendo universe character (Mario Kart DS) and we'll all have to deal with that. (again, he's a robot, not a happy character from a happy game that includes zero forms of violence, and centers on character interaction and everyday tasks.)

Otherwise, that whole post bitched about like, 5 characters. Have you forgotten all of the heavy hitting characters we've already known about? Snake, Sonic, Olimar, Meta Knight, Pit, Pokemon Trainer, as well as others. The game's roster is fine, it just doesn't include some characters optimists found likely (Animal Crossing character, Miis [ugh], Geno, Mega Man.) They had fine reason not to include them as well (I have a feeling Capcom wanted nothing to do with the game. Mega Man's creator's opinion in no way reflects Capcom's opinion). You're going to let the exclusion of a few unlikely characters disappoint you?

What's even worse is that you're judging the game before you've even played it. There are other things to improve upon the other games than just adding characters, and this game looks to do those things well.

Isn't that exactly what you wanted him to do with Marth and Ness? I am confused then. Also Lucario is similar to Mewtwo as well as a replacement for him, but he isn't a clone, sorry. Look at him play, he moves faster, charges his energy ball faster, and has more fighting-style attack patterns than Mewtwo did.

Although I agree with many of your other points. Disappointing overall roster, too many characters that should have been on that roster whose places are filled by useless characters.

His attacks and speed are nearly identical. His Up B is similar to teleport except it's physical and he dashes. He's nearly identical to Mewtwo, except in looks. Same for Toon Link and Link.

- Instead of fixing the clones, with the past 2+ years he's had to develop this game, when Melee had much less time, he leaves them as is, and just adds gimmicks to the game, rather than worrying about the most important aspect of the game: the characters.

- Instead of keeping Mewtwo and improving him, and adding Lucario, they take out Mewtwo, and clone him into Lucario. Thanks. Another useless clone.

- Instead of adding Krystal, a unique Starfox representative, he puts in Wolf, another cloney furry with a gun. Thanks.

- Falco's FS is almost the same as Fox's. In 2+ years you couldn't think of something better?

- Jigglypuff's FS has nothing to do with something she's known for, like singing and drawing on people's faces angrily. Instead, she clones Gigabowser. Great.

- Clones are still vaguely the same.

- Toon Link, who had so much potential, is a Young Link reincarnation. Instead of bombchus and wind powers, he basically replicates TP Link.

- He creates a poll and collects the results of the most wanted characters in the game. He completely disregards half of the top-wanted characters, and replace their roster positions with Melee clones and ROB.

- No voice chat. DS has it but not Brawl? Tis a sad world we live in.

- Ganon doesn't use his sword? What the hell?

- Gimmicks and game features galore! But the roster is weak, and full of uninteresting and unimaginative movesets. Is this how you want to be remembered for possibly your last entry in the Smash series, Sakurai? Two Links, almost exactly the same, four Zelda representatives, MORE Mario representatives, but only one F-Zero and Metroid rep? There are many more characters that deserved a place in Brawl more than pathetic attempts to "surprise" us, like ROB.

- Remind me. What was that damn 3 month delay for? What exactly were you doing? ROB? Who in bloody hell at your office approved the creation of a character who isn't even a real character? Who doesn't do anything?

You disappoint beyond anything possible, Sakurai.
And to think, this is possibly your last Smash game.
You wanted to impress people so badly. You added so many gimmicks and features of things to add to Brawl, things that perhaps weren't even necessary, but just added to the experience. You were so caught up in things like stickers and sandbags, that you forgot what was most important. Refining, perfecting, honing, and creating an All-star roster, each character unique to the next, that would be remembered through the ages. Don't get me wrong, we have plenty of awesome characters, but alot of the characters ,movesets, stats, and clones, could have been mightily improved, and I think many would have rather you spent your time focusing on that than silly gimmicks. It's sad when your own fanbase can design, imagine, and create characters better than you can sometimes.

Consider me slightly disappointed...

Also, why would Geno be a playable character? IIRC, Super Mario RPG was not a super popular game (it sold well enough), and received no attention after it's initial release from Nintendo or Square.

Creator of Mega Man confirmed no Mega Man. Krystal is still possible (we don't know how many characters there are, and we don't know that Wolf is a confirmed character, although Krystal isn't very likely.)

And yes, R.O.B. was a stupid character to put in, but whatever. In any case, R.O.B. isn't a happy character that partakes in everyday life events, like Animal Crossing characters or Miis. You can take R.O.B., a robot, and make him do anything.

And oddly enough, I'm glad we aren't bombarded with like 50 characters. While that'd have been a treat for a while, you'd realize that all you really needed was around 25.

And I just saw the WW Link V Ganondorf fight on the WW level, and I must say, I kind of got chills when the song played, from Roost island was it? I was 15 when I got that game, and the sounds of the game still linger. It was logical that they'd replace Kid Link with WW Link. Only up to Majora's Mask had come out on a console before Melee, so they had to lean with the previous model. WW Link is quite a sight just to look at. I can tell that this game will sit in my Wii for a long long time. just gotta be NMH quickly.

@MajorWedgie: Toon Link is Young Link. Except not a direct clone of Link. He has significantly different physics (jumps high and is floaty), a chargeable up+b spin move, the old boomerang, and other minor things. Not much of a clone.

Ness and Lucas have a completely different set of physical moves, although they share the same psychic moves and final smashes (aside from PK Flash/Freeze).

Falco still looks like a clone of Fox with different physics (disappointing. Plus, he's a fricking bird, why is he heavier?)

Ganon looks to be mostly the same as Captain Falcon again, and looks and moves gayer thanks to his Twilight Princess model (he runs like a girl).

Still uber-excited for this game.

And one more time: WOLF IS NOT CONFIRMED.

Im happy Gannon's back- though i have my fingers crossed that they gave him the chargeable energy ball that can be hit back&forth between him and another (Like in ALL Zelda games' bosses), for a move.
Also- Toon Link is a poor- POOR sadly poor addition to the Brawl... can anyone say- Young Link clone?..
BTW: Ness is also in and his final smash is same as Lucas's.
Falco also in- and ALSO same final smash as Fox's...
Though i'm glad those two characters are back in the fray, Im really upset at their Unoriginal final smash attacks...

People complained last time when the unlockables were repeats (i.e. Luigi) who should be available at the start. No, it's not the final list. Wolf is included, PLUS, Sakurai said MOST OF THE CHARACTERS WILL BE UNLOCKED VIA SSE. And all of these chars have ONLY BEEN UNLOCKED VIA SSE. So, there most likely WILL BE MORE. Until then though, 35 is the number, which includes WOLF.

@McWhertor: That's a mock-up picture that was made by comparing the rumors leaked by three reputable people.

34 out of the 35 characters on that roster have been proven to be in the game already, and the only differences as far as icon placement thus far are between olimar, falcon, and ROB, three characters that are the only representatives of their respective series. As a result, their placement on the roster had no columns to be placed in, so they're just... there.

I'm actually a little disappointed in this list. What about the power of threes? Seriously, where's our third third-party character? Everyone was so stoked and excited to find out who it was, and it looks like we're getting shafted.

It's not like Nintendo would have actually had any difficulty finding a third party to jump onto the bandwagon. I'm sure they had several of them chomping at the bit. Even Capcom said they would have loved to have Megaman in there.

What also disappoints me is the fact that all our "surprise" secret characters are nothing more than returning characters (with the exception of R.O.B. and Lucario). The Smash Bros. Dojo blew most of the character surprises for us by revealing all the really new characters on the site, so when we start unlocking stuff in the game, it's not exciting. That saddens me.

I hope Wolf doesn't wind up being in it and someone more exciting is. Like Krystal or Black Shadow (who could also fill that empty spot on the roster list).

Everyone is believing this GameFAQs prophet, and for what? Because he predicted R.O.B.? Because that's all he predicted. Every other character was a returning veteran or already confirmed, I came to the same conclusions about every other character (including Marth returning but not Roy, and Young Link being based off of the WW/PH Link). It was rather obvious.

Wolf would be a wholly underwhelming final character. I'm hoping for another 3rd party character or Black Shadow. I also think it's likely that there is no more characters.

Hm. Looked pretty much the same as me. Toon Link used his bomb, his down B, he had the same up B, and he had the boomerang attack. His smash attacks might mix things up, but I'm sort of disappointed that they didn't make his specials based off of more iconic Wind Waker items (Wind Waker, Deku Leaf, King of Red Lions [ooh, smash attack?], etc).

As for Ganondorf, he looked pretty much the same to me, but I didn't think about the fact that he was a low-level CPU. Thanks!

@Moonshadow101: The Wii can play DVDs, the Wii Optical Disc is a DVD-based medium. It's also capable of reading dual-layer "Wii Optical Discs" (DVDs), it just lacks the codecs/drivers to read DVD movies.

To clarify: I'm not saying it can play DVD movies, just that it's optical drive is a DVD drive.

Well, did you watch that video? Toon Link vs. Dorf? Not remotely the same. Toon looks to be similar to, although prolly not a clone of, Link. Dorf looked a bit like his old self, although it was a CPU so it's hard to tell.

Well, it seems the "35 roster" is correct. It even listed Wind Waker Link as "Toon Link". Every character from the 35 roster has been confirmed in pictures [www.flickr.com] except for Wolf.

@madhotch: Yep, but the other one was so bad that I can't even remember the name off the top of my head. The reason they stopped selling him? He was stupid. Anyone that thinks that R.O.B. and/or gyromite was actually cool either never played it, or is blinded by nostalgia. ROB sucked.

Spoiler Alert:

ROB's Final Smash: A frustrated little boy holding a NES gamepad comes out from the corner of the screen, runs up to ROB in disgust, kicks him over, and starts pressing the buttons ROB was supposed to press with his feet. Then red and blue pipes rain death on everyone. Its an instant win.

The only cavaet: ROB is entirely useless and malfunctional until you get his final smash. If you're lucky, he might actually throw a robot punch every now and then, but itll never come at the right time.

That being said, great choice. :P (Seriously, no sarcasm, looks like a fun quirky choice).

Meh.. I never had any beef with the "clone" characters from SSBM--Sure they had the same moves, but their effectiveness, range, move distance, hit direction, hit box, etc were all unique making for vastly different strategies.

I was discussing with a friend, and we've come to the conclusion that there will be at least one more character, and it will be from Star Fox.
Look at how the icons are aligned...
Peach is under Luigi, who is under Mario.
Ganondorf is under Zelda, who is under Link.
Dedede is under Meta Knight, who is under Kirby.
But that's where the similarities end.
If another Star Fox character is in it, it'd probably be placed between Dedede and Lucario, pushing Bowser to the bottom row. This puts all four Mario characters, all four Zelda characters, and all four Pokémon characters in the same column.

Who could it be? A lot of rumors point to Wolf O'Donnell, Fox McCloud's rival. Though, I'm thinking it could also be Krystal, given the removed listing on Alesia Glidewell's (Krystal's VA) website for Brawl. Granted, it could also mean Krystal's an Assist Trophy, or maybe a story NPC.
