Wii Fit Gets a Mat (Yes, a MAT)
Posted by Kotaku US Edition at 9:00 PM on January 15, 2008
Japanese peripheral maker Hori is releasing a mat to be used with Wii Fit. The "Wii Fit Mat" (so clever) is pretty self-explanatory: Put it on the floor, under the Wii Fit Balance Board. We guess it'll help prevent slippage, which so far hasn't been much of a problem. Haven't heard of people flailing wildly into their TVs...
This goes on sale in February for around $US 32. Pricey!

Saw some Fits on sale in Taipei a few weeks back. They were the flimsy, Japanese version Fits though. Not the solid steel,rivet gunned,reinforced American ones. I kid i kid!

Flailing wildly into TVs...I gotta admit, that does sound entertaining.

I thought this was going to be some second coming of the Power Pad.

@xtimrs: You take that back!
Nothing will ever replace the Philips CD-I and it's edutainment.

Instead of Wii Fit you get Wii Sit, where you just sit on the bean bag rocking chair peripheral.
Warning: May cause extreme comfort.

Don't blame Nintendo. It's not like their asking for horrible peripherals to be made for their system. Or are they?

And the Wii officially becomes the most embarassing system to own.

If this is the equivalent of the Wiimote strap, I can't wait to see the Wii Fit Rubber Bodysuit.

I can't wait to buy the Wii Fit Drinking Glass. It'll be so much easier to refresh myself while playing the game.

@Scum2k1:
Don't forget about the hydraulic suspension the American version will have.
I'm surprised no one has thought of dumbbell extensions for the wiimote.

Might as well make other Wii stuff like:
-shoes
-headband
-8oz weights
-socks
-t-shirt
-water bottle, etc, etc.
@EnigmaNemesis: couldn't have put it better myself.

This is right up there with those Rock Band lights in the running for "most pointless thing to purchase of the year". I'm guessing loads of people will, I just can't quite believe it was made.

They should just sell an attachment that lets you attach the wiimote directly to your exercise bike, and just have it record the RPMs on that tire, and make a racing game with it.
Or aim it down at a treadmill, and put IR dots on your feet, and it can capture your running... Just sell a $1000 Wii Gym kit.
