Having seen a couple of episodes on Youtube, I can say I wouldn't actually pay for it. It looks nice, but everything else but the visuals is about enough to make your brains leak out your ears.

It amazes me that the Viewtiful Joe anime turned out so well and had 51 episodes, and yet the DMC anime is such a bust.

I liked the whole strawberry sundae thing. Dante going around dropping stylish combos, juggling enemies, and spouting off bad dialogue wouldn't make fod a good series. I thought that it was a nice change of pace and that the series as a whole was pretty good. It wasn't a Lain or Paranoia Agent (comparing other similar sized series), but it was worth a watch nonetheless.

I'm a Media Senior at a Chicago area Best Buy. We've had the Devil May Cry anime in for a few days now. I can't remember how many episodes it is but it is labeled "Level 1", as in volume one. It's probably only 4 episodes. A standard for Western anime releases.

There has been no indication what is going on with ADV currently other than the fact there are problems.

Those of you who like these animes should head over to Animesuki.com. From there you can download anime's that are not licensed. Devil May Cry was available before it was licensed. And if you really get into it, you might find out that American Dub stinks. This is all assuming you have Azureus or some other software to get these torrents.

@Cucco: I'm vehement in many of my beliefs, and one of them is that they didn't do as much with the series as they could've. They had plenty of source material to work with and it's like they wasted all of it. About the only part of the series worth mentioning is the part that deals with Dante's past.

I am rather crazy, though - I dive into lore a little strongly from time to time. Sorry if I came off too strong, I just never saw much of the "badass" you mentioned initially.

I saw the Devil May Cry anime at Best Buy last night. I didn't check to see how many episodes it had, but I am pretty sure it wasn't 12 . I think that the entire series is 12 episodes long.

@Cucco: What badass self? He's a lazy oaf that spends most of his time trying to not do anything, eating strawberry sundaes and pizza. The portion of episodes devoted to Dante actually fighting typically comes out to under a minute and is comprised of a shot of Dante being in the middle of something followed by a reaction shot of blood.

The final episode spends more time with the main villain cowering amongst smoke than it does showing Dante doing anything actiony. How does that not drive you insane?

i had fun watching it. i was actually pretty bummed to find out there were only 12 episodes to the entire series. if you played any of the dmc games, you shouldn't really expect an amazing story for the anime. just watch dante be his badass self and enjoy the ride.

I run an independent movie/game/comic store, and I get both my comics and anime through Diamond. Last week I received the first DVD of the Devil May Cry anime, and have it out for rent right now, so I can confirm that it is in fact real and in the wild.

It's been available at most Best Buy stores for over a week already. I saw it at two different Best Buys this last week. Tons of copies. This is common practice with anime releases. The anime studios don't care if stores break the street dates. I buy anime early at Best Buy and online anime retailers all the time (Robert's Anime Corner Store has had the first volume of Devil May Cry for sale for weeks already).

From what I've seen of the DMC anime, it wasn't too bad, but as Maldron mentioned the potential was mostly wasted. It was fun to watch, still, in my opinion.
