Ace Combat 6 DLC Details
Posted by Flynn De Marco at 6:00 AM on February 25, 2008
Happiness is coming to Ace Combat 6 owners in the form of downloadable content that will be made available over Xbox LIVE this Thursday. Content includes five new plane variants that range in price from free to 400 MS points. Also available will be three new multiplayer maps ranging from 100 - 300 MS points each and one new single player map for 350 points. You can check out all the details on each plane and map after the jump.
The following plane variants will be available for download on Thursday, February 28:
F-117A Night Hawk - General Emblem (Free): An international conglomerate featured in Ace Combat 3, General Resource has used its access to the world's most powerful corporations to imbue this aircraft with increased attack power.
Mirage2000-5 - Advanced (200 Microsoft Points): Reduced armor and improved engine thrust have resulted in an aircraft with advanced handling and acceleration characteristics.
Su-33 Flanker - Crimson Wing (200 Microsoft Points): A fighter plane modified for air shows and exhibition performances, this aircraft is equipped with colored smoke missiles An increased missile payload and accelerated reload capabilities have been added for enhanced performance capabilities.
F-15E Strike Eagle - The Idolmaster Chihaya (400 Microsoft Points): While a little hard to handle when it's in a bad mood, this plane's talent is undeniable. Keep your head up, spread your wings and take to the skies!
Razgriz Set - Contains F-16C Fighting Falcon, F-2A, Su-33 Flanker and Rafale M (400 Microsoft Points): This set of four planes bears the emblem of the Razgriz squadron, the heroes of Ace Combat 5. Each plane is accentuated with advanced durability to ensure the survival of all squad members in even the most hostile missions.
The downloadable content for Ace Combat 6 launching next week also includes the following single player and online multiplayer stages and maps:
Battle Royale Download #1 (100 Microsoft Points): A maximum of 16 players can take part in this new online Battle Royale stage over the South Sea. Avoid the onslaught from the mighty Gyges and Kottos assailants and strike down the opposition!
Co-op Battle Download #1 (300 Microsoft Points): Up to four players can team up for this new online cooperative mission, hunting down the enemy forces that are hunkered down across a rocky canyon. Primary mission objectives consist of four individually timed operations, with a new secondary mission opening up once these objectives are met. Work with your wingmen to successfully clear all operations and unleash the full power of Ragno Fortress!
Siege Battle Download #1 (300 Microsoft Points): A maximum of eight players can take part in this new online Siege Battle above the snowy plains. The attacking side must dispose of enemy attack drones before attempting to down a unit of transport aircraft. A delicate balance of offense, defense and teamwork is required to lead your team to victory and see the transports safely to their destination.
Ace of Aces Mission #1 (350 Microsoft Points): A new single player stage for the masters of Ace Combat 6, this new mission's challenge exceeds that of the game's previous highest difficulty level. Introducing a new Counter-Charge system, players can gain additional allied support by destroying enemies within given segments of time. Time your attacks correctly and build a coalition to secure victory in this mission for the most hardened Ace Combat veterans.

New IdolM@ster plane- looks like I'll be playing through this game again!
I really, really hope this is a testing-the-waters for localisation, or at least a region-free release of the new idolm@ster game...

@Balance_In_Life (PSN): Id assume it would land on the water. Granted with the way it was designed in the game I think it would flood the hangar / runway though.

@Highlander Wolf: I'm trying to think of the logistics of just landing that thing. Although if it was a playable plane... I would buy an Xbox and this game just for that reason.

@DELICIOUS BUNNY: Actually just load up on rockets and that stage is a breeze. The rockets have such a huge blast radius that you can hit a majority of the targets with a single attack run if you are good enough.
You can take down the smaller ones in a single volly also.

@hungry_for_worms: a good portion of the company clearly has no idea wtf they're doing with the DLC pricing and all. Pretty obvious that various dev groups within Namco saw the success of Idolmaster and are trying to mimic the same sort of thing -- only to come up with half-baked games that get slammed for charging for content that shoulda been in there in the first place, or are oddly priced. All these new planes are nice, but it's not gonna do any good when the multiplayer scene is all but dead.
Besides, what good are plane reskins when you're usually looking at enemy planes in the sky the size of specks of dust?
They need to realize the simple fact that the imas costumes are an abnormal case of DLC success that doesn't necessarily port over to each and every one of their games. Not that anything'd stop me from coughing up cash if they add playable Imas characters / costume DLCs for Soul Caliber...

Namco Bandai is abusing the DLC but i doubt MS will do anything about it soon. NB is a japanese company and they seem to be look the other way. probably to make them happy and keep bringing games to the 360.

The planes are reskinned and have different traits, so it's not just a reskin that you're paying for. Not that this makes them worth much, but I figured I'd let people know what's actually going on.

While the DLC pricing is ridiculous, I did love using the A10 with the rocket pods to absolutely rape the support ships in one volley. Fun Thymes.

While all that DLC sounds lovely, I only care about this game coming to the PS3. That's all I care about right now.

@DrunkRaba: Umm, the game got good reviews, and its an excelent game.
As for this content, some of its okay. The new missions seem a bit lame, the coop battle is Ragno Fortress? Isnt that already a level ingame?
As for Ace of Aces, dosnt sound so great. After all the hype of not knowing what it was... Oh well, its possibly the only part of the DLC I will pick up, saying I really enjoyed the SP of the game...

Don't own the game, but it's on my radar when I get my 360 but am I the only one who think there should be a SwatKat aircraft or paint scheme, wouldn't mind paying to fly the TurboKat, bada** jet.

Was upset at first that this didn't come right out on the PS3, but all the reviews of the game and whatnot, that game can stay exclusive.

when they say 5 new plane variants do they mean just skins or are the planes different?
would seem lame to buy just skins.

@WatershipDown:
Ace Combat 5's story wasn't spectacular, but it had a lot of great (and sad) moments.

I think the Dev's should have taken a page out of Burnout sense of speed. The planes all feel like you are flying at 5 mph. But it looks nice.

We need a new itprints money.gif
With Idolmaster on the left, katamari in the middle and Ace combat 6 on the right.
This crap is getting out of control Bandai namco should be ashamed.
Seriously this isnt even funny anymore, I think it is now possible to spend more on DLC for the game than the actual disc purchase itself and its even sader becasue the planes are just reskins and the new levels are already on the disc itself you just unlock them. hence while the level files will only be in kb just like the last one that was available

Ace Combat 6 is so full of fail. It failed to live up to the gameplay of 5 or 4. It failed to deliver a dogfighting arcade mode outside of multiplayer. The story failed to be involving or well thought out, like it's prequels.
I bought the game on launch, knowing the series to be one of quality. On day one, they are trying to sell me plane variants. They have milked this franchise for all its worth and I jumped ship a week after I bought the bundle. Sold it for $135 on craigslist.
Too many bombing runs, too much cheese in the storyline, none of it awesome cheese, either. Namco is dead to me.

@sheppyboy2000: I guess that must be similar to how I like Mech games. Definitely a niche market, too. Thanks.

I'm laughing at all of you who play Ace Combat for the storyline. There hasn't been a good storyline EVER in a Ace Combat game, there has only been degrees of bad.

It's good to know Namco has brought their DLC abuse tendacies stateside... I wonder why Ridge racer 7 got so much crap for free but Ace Combat 6 owners get raped...
@Smadubaku:
If you played the demo and didn't "get it," then paying $60 isn't going to change that fact. It's a good looking arcade flight sim, that's a niche market no matter how you look at it. So don't feel left out if you don't feel the magic.

I've been curious about this game. The series is pretty popular, but I haven't played any. I didn't think too much of the demo. Am I wrong? Anyone out there own this game and think it's worth a second look?

@DrakeLake: It's called "ripping of the buyers of your game".
Seriously, who is dumb enough to play 5 bucks to ad skins on your old planes?
They should rename the "plane variant pack" to the "idiot jpeg pack."
The other content is less, well... idiotic. But honestly, adding mutiplayer maps in an Ace Combat game is like adding a painting in a room.

It's the flying fortress you fight in mission 9. It's got a runway in the center of it. I tried landing on it many a times, but alas fate hath denied me.

@DrakeLake: It's meant to be a massive, flying aircraft carrier I believe. Kind of like what would happen if Cloudbase was... well, crap.
I have another question - Aren't all multiplayer maps the same? Sky.

A flying aircraft carrier. You get to shoot it down, of course.
I enjoyed Ace Combat 6, but it really paled in comparison to Ace Combat 5. Gameplay was great, but the storyline was just terrible, whereas the storyline in Ace Combat 5 was pretty good, IMHO.

Hey everyone: Ace 4 was cool when it came out. Ace 5 is a great game: I couldn't stop playing and was completely addicted to unlocking every new plane! Ace 6 graphics-wise is very satisfying. The storylines are all 100% horse manure. That aside, 6 is MS first try... may they do better. Perhaps they could make these games more challenging AND more fun??!!!!! I haven't gone online with 6 yet and am looking forward to having my ass blown out of the sky by some of you! LOL! By the way, I love bombing runs and enjoy trying to hit air targets with ground ordnance! There's nothing better than skewering a pack of AH-64's with rockets (on 6). One time on 5, I was able to hit a fighter passing under my wing with a dumb bomb.. pretty rare! Could someone please explain what Ace of Aces really is? I have unlocked everything in 6... I have all the medals and assault records but no a of a's. Is it unlocked online?
