Highlander Game Not Sounding Very Highlandery
This is bad news. Not the kind of bad news that'd compel you to clamber up on a rooftop, mind, but it's pretty damn close. The upcoming Highlander game won't feature Kurgan. Not at all. VG247 spoke with the game's executive producer, Luke Timms, who broke the news:
Kurgan, no, but there is one familiar character Highlander fans will be happy to see. Working closely with the original writer - David Abramowitz - ensures that we are in tune with what Highlander fans want and expect. What, just one? So there's no Kurgan. The main character (ie you) isn't Connor MacLeod of the clan MacLeod. At this rate there probably won't be "Who Wants To Live Forever?" in it either. Widescreen Games, that "familiar" character had best be Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez, or you may as well just pack up and go home.
No Kurgan in Highlander, confirms Widescreen [VG247]

It's already been said that Meathos will be the character from the series that you see in the game. It's more based on the series rather than the movies, which is too bad because in the movies if you are stabbed in the stomache you shrug it off. In the series you die and come back. Connor pwns!

Can I just point out that the original writer of Highlander was Gregory Widen. David Abramowitz came on board for the series but he had jack-all to do with the original film.
So it's all going to be bullshit anyway.

@photoboy:
My original thought had been that, even though the setting looked more modern, the TV series had to occur before the Highlander movie, because yes, Conner is the _one_. And then the fourth movie screwed that theory all to hell...
Purple Dave
fan of the first movie--jeezus god, hasn't aged well. Russell Machauly's a drunk.
Honestly, I think the execution worked out best in the series. yes, there was some mega-cheese, but on the whole I thought it was the best way to explore the concept.
Queen couldn't hurt. Queen should have been a bigger part of the other movies. if they'd gotten Highlander II off the ground immediately, Freddie could've been an immortal :/

I love Highlander. Before the days of the internet, I had friends around the country keeping an eye out for the extended European version.
The continued bastardization and profiteering of this movie, which should have only been a single movie, makes me sad.
I will not buy this game.
I will continue to accept only the original movie as the entire story, because all that came after it just doesn't make sense.

Hopefully it is that giant talking bunny from the cartoon series and that they get rid of that whole cutting off of the head in favor of taking their magical jewel. (Still makes as much sense as Highlander 2.)

@Black-Dog-Howls: I heard it was going to be Darth Vader.
Protector one
@Islandkiwi:
News flash, the game will have scenes in the past. News flash, every Highlander film has done this.
Hatchetforce
Uh oh. We are going to get stuck with Kastagir.
Hatchetforce
There can be only one half dozen.
doubtful
@Islandkiwi: It's probably methos since he is the oldest living immortal. or some crap like that. i didn't watch the tv show a lot.

I really like owen macleods voice. heavier accent than chris lamberts luuulz.
Kurgan is dead. I'd hope he's not in the game.
We are dealing with someone who is older than conner and duncan.
Owen was adopted into the macleod clan. Dude was there during Vesuvius. he's so much older than the other two.

Man, I enjoyed the first movie, and the whole idea of the Highlander can make for some great stuff, but I had a hard enough time with the fact that there were 2 Macleod's running around that both happened to be immortals. Also I had a very hard time believing Duncan was Scottish. All those Macleod's just waters it down for me. I haven't yet read the Highlander comics, but it seems to take the continuity of the first movie (maybe adjusting the ending a bit) and then going from there. That seems like a much more interesting way to go, seriously with this new Macleod that makes what 5 now that just so happen to be immortals? Conner, Duncan, the guy from that pretty bad animated series in the 90's, the one from the more recent anime, and now this guy? Ugh.
Also it better have Princes of the Universe it it as well.

It better fucking well be Methos, good sirs.

Uh, ok...that audio wasn't as high-quality as I remember it. There's a sample of that line being said at the beginning of the song. I wasn't just posting random videos, promise.
Oh, but the song rules.

There should have been only ONE movie.
Perhaps Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez will be the other one her refers too. Sean Connery seems to lend his voice or face to anyone that can sign a check. The game could center on the training before Kurgan offs Ramirez.

Asking about Kurgan? News flash...Kurgan dead.
Ask about Methos.
Islandkiwi
I always thought a stealth game featuring amanda would be cool. Add in sword fights and quickenings and you'd have an awesome concept. I'm sure Elizabeth Gracen would do it too, she's said Amanda is her favorite role and would love to reprise it.
Or Methos perhaps, that could make for some good story tellnig, have it take place over thousands of years.
Mr.Waffleton
Don't be confuse by all this sci-fi tale, the real Highlandery 2 is "Bravehearth".
Plus, If you need tales about inmortal people, theres Lestat. Unfortunally, the quality of latest Lestat movies where horrible.
Poor Mekare.

Has anyone around here seen "Highlander: Search For Vengeance"? I swear, if the franchise is put in the hands of those writers, it still has a great chance.
Ashurahori
@photoboy: In the second movie they decided the immortals were aliens and new ones arrived from their home planet. Then they realized that was a stupid idea and retconned it. In the third movie he faught immortals that were trapped in a cave so he didn't realize they were still around. In the TV series they retconned again and said Connor v Kurgan was just the beginning of the gathering rather than the end. Then dropped the gathering altogether cause they kept adding new immortals.
In other words, they took a one-shot story and clusterfrakked it all to hell to milk more money out of it.
LeChuck
There can be only one highlander?
Fyren
My ancestor, Fionn Mac Cumhail would pwn that haggis munching poser anyday.
Wookiee1
Kurgan lives on as Dr Neo Cortex anyway. Now that would be an interesting crossover.
Lu-Tze
There can be only one... except when the need for another sequel or spin-off arises. Why are there any Immortals still around when Connor killed the last one in the first film? Was that ever explained in the series or anything?
photoboy
I was more of a Duncan man.
RPGZero
@Gypsie: "Zeist" is no longer canon. Plus, that's the same as saying that they'll do a Flash Gordon game for the next-gen consoles. Not happening. Too ridiculous.
Ashurahori
@Luke Plunkett: Who says Connor won't be in this game? Still, the game won't have him as the main character, which is great, because they've stuck so many stories to him, having a game about him would either have to be about the first movie, or they'd have to cancel one of the movies out.
Ashurahori
Who cares? Kurgan was only in the first movie and wasn't that great of a bad guy anyways. Now I would be mad if atleast Methos didn't show up in some point in the game.
madman83
@Ashurahori: Yeah, but what they've done in the films doesnt have to reflect in the games, all it takes is one exec to say "u know what would be great? if we set the first few levels on Zeist, then transport to Earth" and bam - troubles-a-brewing
I agree on the sequels ranging between lame and truly agonising...but the first film was so awesome :| I spent a lot of time when i was younger watching it, and i guess i just really wanted this to be great too, and, while im not saying now it wont be, coz obviously i have almost nothing to base that opinion on, some familiarity would have been a real treat.
Gypsie
@Ashurahori: Rubbish, they at least had Connor MacLeod!
Luke Plunkett
@Gypsie: Then already cancelled the alien idea by the third movie, which cancels the second! But why should they have the same old regular characters? Every single story sequel they've done has been horrible. They're better off doing a new story.
Ashurahori
oh, what the ass?!?! They blatantly cud have got Christopher Lambert in to voice Connor MacCleod...not like hes doing anything else these days - No Kurgan either??? this game already sounds like a lame-ass Shadowrun-style under use of a great license....hell, why not go whole hog on the idea, and instead of duel other immortals u just challenge them to a series of brightly coloured mini-games :|
and you better make DAMN sure that these are proper "immortals", not aliens, like in Highlander 2....
Gypsie
Dante will be making a surprise appearance.
It'll be CRAYHZEE!
Black-Dog-Howls
Screw that. No Highlander movie ever featured the same characters. The animated Highlander movie, "In Search Of Vengeance", managed to be really great dispite all that. I say bring new characters and a new plot. Good ones.
