Imbibe Monster Hunter Energy
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 12:40 AM on February 26, 2008
Drink up! This March, Capcom's got the Monster Hunter Portable 2nd energy drinks. Dubbed "Monster Hunter Drink" (clever!), the beverage will be manufactured by Hino Pharmaceutical. Ingredients include royal jelly, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B2, Caffeine and Niacin. Mmm, Niacin.
Each bottle will have a customised bottle cap of a different in-game icon. Ten total to collect — if you are into that sort of thing.

DO WANT
Well... Thats what the MH fan in me says. You all have me afraid of it now, though. Taste wise anyway. If we had them in the coolers, here in the states - I'd certainly grab a few.

@TheMysteriousStranger:
Like how we know where milk, eggs, roe, caviar, tripe, intestines, kidneys, liver (FYI, the last four is prolly the casual diet of Asian people, mostly. And Scots, I suppose).
In other words, if we're going to eat stuff from animal behinds, I don't see why we shouldn't for bugs. Especially since royal jelly is an amazing substance that not even science has fully decoded.

We all know where "royal jelly" comes from, right?

@NotAZombie: The ones that Ash put up for me was the soda that they made which is the second run of the potion formula cept it was made into a soda this time and not a health drink like the first one was.
The soda potion was actually rather nice. Cant describe the flavor but it was pleasant, compaired to the hellfire which the first batch was.

@Witzbold: Were those the ones you posted pictures of? There was a lot of coverage of FF products in Japan so I kinda got lost.

@Witzbold: I didn't know that. You know where I'm coming from though, right? Anyway, when I was in Japan my favourite energy drink was 'Asahi Super Dry'... I always felt full of beans after a few cans of that! :)

I would be pleasantly surprised if respectable academia uncovered something that stated that medieval "potions" really did taste like that back in their day...

@duckmouth: Actually most of the energy drinks in Japan are made by pharmaceutical companies. Id much rather trust them to mix a proper balance of "suppliments" into a drink than an average beverage company.
Taste though is a different story.

Royal Jelly, the bee excretion? That stuff has a pretty odd sweet taste. Used to drink an ounce a day, it's pretty good for you, actually. I think this drink will have an interesting flavor, and i'd like to try it. Seems healthier than the vast majority of the energy drinks that are made these days, based on the ingredients.

"manufactured by Hino Pharmaceutical"... I pity the fool who buys a beverage made by a Pharmaceutical company (other than medicine, naturally, though I'm not sure if it qualifies as a beverage).

I'll stick with 4 shot lattes and mochas, thanks.
THEY GIVE ME ALL THE ENERGY I NEEDS, SERIOUSLY... LOTSA ENERGY, I DON'T NEED YOUR ENERGY DRINKS, I GOT 4 SHOTS OF ESPRESSO IN ME RIGHT NOW!!!
The thing i really need them to work on isn't the energy drink... it's the crash I experience after the high. It always starts off well, but afttteeerrr ... aa... feewww....
zzzzzz
But yeah... this doesn't look like a buy to me. Looks kinda gross, actually.

@SecondTomorrow: "[Niacin] doses above 2 g per day have been associated with liver damage, particularly with slow-release formulations."
Yeah, probably wouldn't recommend binge drinking this stuff :P

I think I have a lucozade once every few months if I'm doing intense exercise, but... do you really need energy drinks for gaming? Let alone game-branded ones. I'd like an FF Potion to put on my shelf, nothing more. The taste would punish anyone if they dared drink it!

Double dose of B6 and B2? I'll leave it be, as most game inspired drinks either taste like death or at minimum a foreshadowing of a hospital trip.

Yum Yum...........nothing like having grotesque, unappealing monsters on the bottle.....
I bet this crap makes potion taste like a finely aged wine.

I am so so afraid about this drink after what happened with the original FF potion drink. D:
