Leipzig Looking More And More Likely To Move

The show, that is. Not the city. Rumours have been all over the place lately surrounding the future of the Leipzig Games Convention, fuelled by this piece from a German financial paper that reckons the show will be moving to Köln in 2009. It's not the first time the show's been rumoured to be on the move, but it's definitely the most convincing, and is helped along today by further news that a "senior German industry source" has told videogaming247 he's "99% sure" the show will be moving, citing the need for better air links and accommodation options as the show grows in size and importance.

getting more central to the rest of gaming europe is a smart move the Greece French Italy UK Belgium and Dutch will really like this move

But it's still offensive to say that kind of stuff i mean there's enough other kinds of people that go to cons. Besides who says a european con is the same as an american one?

this is really nothing more than a rumour. the original source is a blog by a journalist of the FAZ. not even a financial paper.
plus, this news has already been denied. there are talks at the moment between the trade fair of leipzig and the BUI, which inherits pubishers et al, about the future but this is largely because the contract between both ends at the end of 2008. The name games convention and the concept is owned by the trade fair leipzig.

@Cchrist: Well, I'm female and worked as a booth babe at the comic convention in my hometown during university... (I was young and needed the money) so I know what I'm talking about.

"Games Convention" is a trademark or something. The show would get a new name. That's for sure.

Excuse me but i'm 23 and i've only had like 2 or 3 pimples in my life, oh AND i use deoderant! But i still like going to a good con so there's nothing much to say but suck it really.

I think Cologne's really ugly, but what do I care. No one (well, no one but my employer) will be able to force me to a convention full of prepubescend pimpled videogaming boys.
You might think I'm promoting a stereotype here, but I'm sorry to say that it's the truth.

I like Köln. It's a cool place.
I seriously doubt I'll be back in Germany anytime soon, but I wouldn't mind it being there.
