Either console could come out on top this year depending on what hits and what doesn't but saying anyone has it "wraped up" is ridiculous. X360 has '06 and '07 in their pocket, making it a must win or at the very least compete for the PS3. I actually like the PS3's list a little more, big fan of MGS4 and love what little I have seen of Infamous but to the average gamer both consoles offer a lot this year. I have no idea what is coming out in '09, so I will wait and see...

How can Konami not taking advantage of the much lager 360 install base? They have ported other games so they are obviously not against it, even when the install base is much smaller. I do not know if you played MGS2 on the Xbox but I for one found it worked fine. Had its problems but it did not hinder the final product very much.

This bundle could have been in a deal for a timed exclusive or for just the first version of the game to stay and for the remake to be ported over. Either way I believe it will come and will wait on it. I don't believe Sony deserves my money again so I will hold off of it as long as possible.

I am also playing Lost Odyssey on four discs, doesn't make a difference to me. I don't think anyone cares other then fanboys if the game comes on more then one disc. Saying you do not think the game can work on the 360 is actually quite funny. What has the Cell done so far that the 360 cannot? What game plays and looks better on the PS3 over the 360? That is the reason I sold my first PS3. I was tired of having the better hardware but getting games that ran much worse on the PS3.

If I do have to buy the PS3 again for this one game it will be used on ebay. I will turn around and sell it right back after I beat it a good number of times. Well unless Infamous turns out as good as it looks, then I might decide on keeping it a couple months.

Well, I've held off on the PS3 for awhile now. I think June will be the month I finally break down and buy one. I think I'll have to send money to parents in the states to get one for me since I doubt AAFES will EVER carry this.

@Muisee: Just asking, but when is the last time you bought a console that came packaged with an exclusive game, and then that game showed up on a competing console? I have never seen such a thing occur. This is just one of many things that solidifies the idea that Konami will not and does not need to port this to the 360. The fact that it's going to be included with the 80 GB console guarantees multi-million status, and it wouldn't be financially necessary to sink the resources into a port, and a port that would likely suffer at that. This is a game that was built from the ground up on the Cell architecture. It'd take a lot of work to get it running on a 360, assuming it can at all. The control scheme would have to be implemented differently. Without motion control, it's possible that you'd have to do some finger gymnastics just to perform some of the game's functions, similar to how you have to hold the select button on a PSP in order to turn the analog stick into a simulated "right analog stick" and the R1 and L1 buttons into simulated R2 and L2 buttons when playing remotely connected to a PS3. Then there's the capacity factor of the blu-ray disc and how much of the disc this game requires. If it's nearly a full disc, as we've read as a possibility before, then they'd either have to compress textures & audio for a 360 release, or release it on 5 discs or so. Not that it couldn't be done, but just compare: you've got 5 discs for a game that is possibly inferior to the 1-disc version on the PS3. Doesn't exactly make the 360 look like a contending system when you've got the same game but it has to deliver it in an antiquated fashion, without even being up to snuff compared to the Blu-Ray version...

You know, The Orange Box lags on the PS3, and that's because it was a half-assed port, not because it can't handle it. MGS 2 lags on the Xbox because it was a half-assed port, despite the fact that the Xbox was a more powerful system than the PS2 was. This game is designed for the Cell architecture, and it would require a complete from-the-ground-up recreation, costing a lot of extra money, to get it to play on the 360's architecture, and it would just take too long to implement it properly and have the game still be relevent to the 360 platform. It could take well over a year and they still might not get it perfectly ported. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to my mind for them to consider doing such a thing. It seems extremely unlikely.

I was expecting a price drop announcement myself. Maybe Sony thinks with the recent win with Blu-ray it can wait 'til after MGS4 (and GTA4) to drop the console price with a new 60gig w/o BC or something along those lines. Or maybe they are counting on most American's lacking mathematical prowess ;)

I might add that I'm not in favor of paying a premium for backwards compatibility. Not with how cheap you can get a PS2 from a pawn shop or the internets (though if you want a PS3, chances are you have a PS2 already). Including the exploits of homebrew and emulation that our possible on it.

I wonder if there will be a drop before FFXIII...

I got the PS2 bundle with MGS2, it sucked because they released at the same time the collectors edition with making of. The version with PS2 was the basic version of the game I was well disapointed.

Now unless there is something really special about this PS3 bundle then no thanks, I will get the LE version of the game if there will be one (and Im pretty sure there will be).

I would really suggest getting this bundle. Since your system will be a new one. Sony has a site that you can check any PS1/PS2 games for backwards compatibility (if this indeed is a PS3 with Software BC). Go to the site check all the games you will more than likely play and go form there. But most everything is supported. There are a few key titles, but it is worth a look.

This is a great bundle. Dualshock 3 and MGS4 in place of Motorstorm? That's sweet! I kept saying to everyone that the Motorstorm bundle was a limited edition and Sony fully intended on releasing a new one with a new game, but no one believed me.

Backwards compatibility is the same as the other 80GB SKU, the only difference is the game and the controller! I do wish Sony dropped the price a bit. Even 479 would bring in the masses.

Personally, the full PS2 BC of the 60 gig seems better to me. Though I do believe both are at least BC with the PS1 games, many of which are still worth playing.

The extra 20 gigs are only really gonna be a big deal if you intend to burn through the PSN and use the system as a media player and what not.

The DS3 would be your big value there, if it is very important to you, but otherwise the 60 gig would make more sense.

However, I have been waiting to buy a PS3 until the release of MGS4 AND the release of DS3. Therefore, such a bundle which includes the two things I (and likely many others) have been waiting for, all while saving $65, is a phenomenal deal and a great move by Sony.

To be sure, it's not groundbreaking or revolutionary, it's more like a "finally" moment after waiting since the PS3's release to reach this moment. A long-awaited orgasm feels similar -- not like you weren't expecting it to come, it's just satisfying that it has finally been announced and the end of my waiting game is in sight. Additionally, MGS is one of my absolute favorite series in all of gaming. I just don't see what is spectacular about THIS announcement. Were people expecting the game to be out later than summer? Were people expecting that Sony wouldn't push it?

This all just seems pretty obvious and standard.

I guess the timely arrival of DS3 is cool and all, but I never really missed rumble anyway. I thought sixaxis was fine.

I'm not the only person that thinks it is silly to factor in the price of a controller into the savings right? I mean sure it isn't the same controller, but you get a $50 controller with the other bundles too.

@smallwang: You still have to factor in the cost of the controller. Just because there is only a $5 difference between the Sixaxis and the DS3 doesn't mean you subtract the entire cost of the controller and then add $5. And where in the world can you get a 80 gig PS3 for $400?

I don't see this package selling uber amounts at $500 -- it'll be decent, but it's priced well out of the mass-market. I wouldn't be surprised to see a slight drop in PS3 sales as people wait for this bundle, though ... then see a spike as it comes out.

Regardless, I don't see this being a particularly big deal because the price is still ridiculously high.

It isn't "bad" news, or anything like that, but it isn't really "good" news either.

The big sales are going to come when the system is priced in a range that more people can afford.
This won't magically move more consoles on launch day.

The effect of AAA titles like MGS will only REALLY be felt a few years from now when they show legs.

I don't see what all the reaction is about, the game was supposed to come out this year, and June sounds about right. Were people expecting this to not happen?

A final date is cool and all, especially for this game, but I just don't get the shock and awe of it.

...instead I got the old 80GB Motorstorm bundle and I'm happy, but that is a smart, smart bundle. I was afraid Sony would somehow find a way to shoot themselves in the foot with this.

Wow, based on the comments on all posts over the last 48 hours, I must say that the banhammer did a fantastic job -- thanks Kotaku. Nice to not have every Sony post filled with people hating on Sony, and every 360 post filled with people hating on MSFT.

This is an outstanding bundle for the price. I agree that the 60 GB model (I upgraded mine to 250 GB) is still the way to go if you can get your hands on one, but this package kind of redefines the concept of system seller.

Bad news for 360 folks -- if it's getting bundled, I'm pretty damn sure it ain't coming to other systems.

I'm lucky enough to have a roommate that bought a PS3 and he rarely plays any video games. Only game he has played on it is Twisted Metal 2 from the PSN store.

I don't see why people think this mean a price drop.. The current 80gb comes with Motorstorm and a Sixaxis.

This one replaces the Sixaxis for a Dualshock and Motorstorm for MGS4.

However, I'm wondering whether this bundled PS3 will have the latest 45nm Cell BE. I'm hoping so because current PS3s heat up too fast and the fans are getting too loud.

@Arttemis: Yeah, like y2kenjination said, about 70% Backwards Compatible. I think all of Sony First and Second Party Titles are BC, and the Third Party Titles are hit or miss. There was a website I saw awhile back (related to the official Playstation Website) that would check to see if a Specific Title would Play on the 80GB. The only one I saw that I couldn't play, at the time, was Kingdom Hearts 2.

This is the bundle I've been waiting for. I just hope its still around till the end of the year....
