Microsoft Announcing Something For Japan Next Week?

According to several steps of online translation, Microsoft is teasing an announcement happening next week in Japan on an Inside Xbox Japan video. We know nothing of what could be coming, maybe a game, accessory, or a giant robot to defend against lizard attacks. And with Ash fast asleep, we haven't been able to properly poke around for the video in question. All we really do know is that the original Xbox launched on Feb 22 in the country, meaning the time line almost works out to an anniversary type of celebration. And, of course, GDC is next week.

I think it's more likely to be the giant lizards than the robots that fight them. If Microsoft can't win the console wars in Japan then they can eat hot lizard death.

Wonder what edition of Inside Xbox these guys are talking about. The latest (2/8/08) was a rehashed CES2008 report with Major Nelson, and the one prior was some Famitsu360 crap that might as well have been written (and reported) by a bunch of middleschoolers. There might have been something in there, but I have better things to do with my time...

Hm I hope it is something new and not simply a release date or something. The post doesn't give us much to go on. I hope it is the announcement of either a PS3 exclusive going multiplatform or an exclusive Japan focused game being put in development (Jrpg, gundam game anything really).

The problem is not that the system is American, it is that Microsoft did not do enough to localize the console for Japan.
There are plenty of successful American products in Japan. For example, Coca-cola. They got a huge foothold in Japan thanks to Japanese-tailored marketing. (The original slogan was "I feel Coke.") While the product is the same as the US one (other than in cost, at 300 or more yen for a 1.5 liter!!!) the marketing (and sometimes packaging) was designed to be Japanese friendly.

I don't know why they don't just pull out, Japan is a lost cause and recognizing that and admitting it is a smarter business decision than continuing to waste money on a market that will refuse to buy an American product in a Japanese dominated industry over there.
There's no shame in admitting defeat when it's this obvious.

Ikaruga release date. Although if one of the triple AAA title for PS triple were to come over...
I would still pick up PS3, just at the end of '08 or beginning of '09 due to the fact that I have yet to use my 48in 1080p to its full extent; a la BR or HDVD
