New Indiana Jones Prizes for Japanese Arcades
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 3:00 PM on February 16, 2008
So has that new Indiana Jones trailer gotten you excited? Japanese arcades are all ready to pounce on that. Just check out this UFO catcher Indy merch. Throw the crane the whip, and it'll take your money and keep the idol! Or something. Heh.
Side note: While I am SUPER EXCITED about the movie, am I the only one who thought the trailer was so-so?
[Thanks, Jean!]

Yeah, you're the only one who thought the teaser trailer was so-so. I know I was excited! I've been waiting for this movie since the first rumors of a fourth one began circulating around 1995.
As for the crane machine prizes, I hate Japan! And by "hate" I mean "am insanely jealous of."

That movie was filmed in my city. Actually behind my workplace.

@xot: Short on content is what makes it a "Teaser", and I personally hate trailers that give away too much.

The trailer didn't look bad at all. I'm pleasantly surprised at how much the film really looks like an Indiana Jones flick at this point.

Teaser was iffy. I'm looking forward to the film, but am still leery. Time will ultimately tell though...

The teaser was OK, a little short on content, but it got me stoked for the the release. If you want to see something weird, examine the scene at 0:57. They have heavily doctored the image for the trailer including gun manipulation ala E.T., hiding stuff behind fake crates, a guard whose top half and both half move in different directions, a background player that appears out of thin air, and a new meme poised to take over the internet -- CGI PANTS!

Seems like a good time to use the new feature:

I thought it was pretty cool. It's Spielberg, how can the movie be bad? I like the shot of the car chase on the cliff, it looks like it was painted.

The little gold idol looks totally awesome! I wonder how the hell is the crane arm going to grab that tho?
The movie trailer was pretty cool I thought. Its nice to see crazy whip action!

It might just be me, but I still consider the actual image of the crystal skull to be a spoiler. Maybe you should put the photo after the break?

The trailer was pretty damn cool. Seeing Harrison Ford doing his thing again isn't bad at all. I just hope this revival isn't a disappointment like Live Free Die Hard.

i thought the trailer was awesome. sure harrison looks a bit old, but the special effects blow the old films out of the water. it's pretty nice that they managed to keep the same sense of humor from the previous three.

I hope the special effects don't look as bad on the big screen... Kinda wish they didn't even go in that direction. =/

That'd be cool to get the idol. My wife would probably get mad at me for bringing it into the house ... then again, i suck at the UFO catcher games.

Teaser -- eh, it doesn't matter, you've got the hat and the whip and the music and the quippage.

Who else laughed when he lands in the trucks window and say, "Damn, thought it was a lot closer.." then elbows the guy in the passenger seat, wow that was awesome...don't get me wrong I've seen it so many times now but it still gives me a good laugh, this is gonna be such a sweet movie!!!, and the games are gonna be great too (atleast the Lego one will be not sure about the other one, haven't heard from it in a while).

I'm really torn...The Last Crusade was a great movie, but the memory of Alien: Resurection, Spiderman 3, X:Men 3, and Episodes I, II, and III still way heavily on my mind. Quality franchises turn to shit later in life, but I guess it's not like I'm going to skip one more trip with Dr. Jones...I just hope he hasn't jumped the shark.

I thought the teaser was a bit weak, myself. The car chase in particular just didn't look good. As much as I love Speilberg, I kinda think he completely lost it a few years ago... take A.I. and War of the Worlds (please! just take them away!).

I thought the trailer was great. Remember, since it was a teaser, the emphasis was on actually seeing Ford in character for a bit, a tiny bit of a whiff of some new and old characters, and a feel for the "tone" of the new one - yes, Jones is old but he still kicks ass!

What is the plot of the new one about? The first was the ark of the covenant, which was so awesomely epic, but this one is...a crystal skull in...a kingdom? Whatever, as long as george lucas doesn't get too involved, I think it'll be fine.

I honestly think you're judging it a bit too much for what it's supposed to be. It's not the return of Jesus/Buddha/Frank Sinatra

I loved the trailer, but seeing as how Indiana Jones was the first movie I saw in theaters I'm pretty much guaranteed to be in line to see this in my brown felt fedora. I also loved the young indiana jones chronicles, but I still hated Temple of Doom. Even as a kid I asked my mom "Why is the stupid lady screaming every 10 seconds and why does the little asian kid not shut up?"

No, Mister Ashcraft, you are not the only one. The trailer does not flow well, and does not have any sort of consistent tone.* It also does not 'crescendo' well to the finish. And what's with the flat "Part-time" punchline as the last words we hear? The music before the "Raiders March" begins is apparently from a "Dune" soundtrack? It's a weird trailer, alright.
That said, I didn't see or hear anything that made me wince, and I didn't see Lucas' name except for a split-second. And for that, I am glad.
*--Contrast it with the "Dark Knight" trailer, and it really shows how surprisingly scattershot this one is.

@Brian Ashcraft:
I agree I'm still hyped for the movie but everything in the trailer looked liked it was filmed on a sound stage. I miss the outdoor filming.
That gold idol from Raiders is so awesome looking. I wonder what they will go for on Ebay?
