New PS3 Bundle Coming To Australia

While this has nothing to do with a larger hard drive, Sony will be offering a new bundle in Australia that includes a 40GB PS3, second Sixaxis controller and one of the following games: Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction or NBA 08 all for $799.95. Wow, that's looking a LOT better than the original $1000 PS3 launch price that Luke had to put up with.

Is this a joke? The 40gb PS3 + DMC4 sells for ~$500 in Japan. Add in $50 for a second controller and you'd still have change to buy the most of the titles in the Australian deal!

i work at Game. Thats the name of the store, we are currently selling the PS3 40gig with one controller and your choice of one of those games for $799. We have been selling this for about a week now so i would said that its not coming but infact here.

In two weeks when I finally get paid (getting paid monthly sucks) I'll be picking up a Japanese PS3 so I can play my Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Collection and all for the exact same price as this bundle.

@kylenalepa: Yeh its pretty disgraceful that these companies think they can keep ripping us off so badly.
I think the activision price jacking of COD4 on steam pisses me off more. I almost wish I could return my copy, I snuck in while it was still $49US instead of the rediculous $89. Where do they get off with nonsense!!!
The thing that irritates me more is the PS3 is selling well in Australia... usually the market dictates the price, if its too expensive like that it doesnt sell and they have to reduce the price... but it seems Australians are all too willing to bend over and take it!!!!!!

It's not that great value. I picked up my Xbox 360 Pro a little over a year ago as a $750 AUD bundle that came with an extra controller as well as DoA4 and PGR3. And I didn't have to turn around and buy cables for it.
You'd think that by now Sony could offer something decent. If this was $700 it would be a good deal, but at $800 it's not really.

I don't really understand the people waiting for a cheap AND backwards compatible PS3, the only reason it got cheaper is by taking it out.

Yikes, you Aussies are still getting reamed.
$799.95 AUD = $726.24 USD.
Plus, you'll be replacing those SIXAXIS controllers with the new DUAL SHOCK 3 controllers once those come out, so tack on another $150 AUD or so.

I'll never forgive myself for returning my 60gb. Never.
Now I'm waiting for a bundle along the lines of the one where you could choose 2 from a list of great games (I was going to go with Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank) to hit the U.S. Then I'll buy it and commence with the kicking myself when I can't finish the PS2 games I started on my 60gig.

@DCSimian: Wow...now just because its been shown, they'll HAVE to put a SSBB article on. Maybe one stating how the control stick moves the characters...but get this...it also makes them jump and crouch! WHOA!!
But yea, the PS3, in my eyes, is starting to look better and better each day. Thats a good thing. I'm waiting for a cheap (in PS3 terms) BC version tho...Crossing my fingers...fears I have to hit up ebay!

@Paroxysm: turn it to Euro and you have 489€ which is a pretty normal price for the PAL region. we're always getting screwed by the prices, even though it's just the western-Europeans that are rich enough for them.

@DCSimian: Yep some Aussies do care, but I won't take NBA 08 over one of the other games on offer. I've got 07 and an update to the player rosters isn't worth ~AUD$100.
