Postal the Movie To Take on Indiana Jones?
Posted by Brian Crecente at 3:00 AM on February 22, 2008

"I was laughing, and I was like 'Wow, I'm laughing."
Vince Desi wants to get something straight right from the get go: Uwe Boll's Postal movie isn't a masterpiece, but it is, he thinks, at least entertaining.
The funny thing is that it probably wouldn't have even been that if it weren't for Boll's decision early on to mostly ignore the treatment that Postal developer Running With Scissors turned in and take the film in a different direction.
RWS's take was a hardcore action flick, something filled with "Postal scenes", something that even the Running With Scissors guys admit, isn't Boll's forte.
Instead Boll decided to turn the movie into satire, something that Desi thinks is actually a good fit for the German director. The end result was an $US 18 million movie that is mostly ad-libbed by the likes of David Foley and Vern Troyer. Even Desi, who makes a significant walk-on in the film, ad-libbed most of his lines. And Boll is a man who apparently doesn't believe in multiple takes, likley one of the reasons many of his films have bombed. While that doesn't work for sweeping epics, it might just work for a comedy.
Despite thinking that the movie is worth a watch, Desi knows that most of its money will likely come from DVD sales and that the theatrical appearance is really just there to get the name in front of peoples' faces. In fact, Desi says that Universal, which is distributing the movie, is seriously considering having it open in the vacuum created by the upcoming release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
"No one is releasing a film that weekend because they know Indiana Jones will kill it, so we're thinking of releasing it then," he said. "I'm a marketing guy and I can see the Postal Guy takes on Indiana Jones."
So sure are the Running With Scissors guys that Postal will do well... in video... that they've already starting working on a rough draft for the sequel, Postal 2.
Desi sees the movie hitting this summer, and then it going to DVD shortly after. He says he's working to arrange a special edition that will include the film and a copy of the previous games for PC. Then the Postal Babe mobile games will hit (the most violent mobile game Desi says he's ever seen) and then work will start on the second movie and Postal 3 the game will be ready to ship.
"That's our 18 to 24-month plan," he said

I'll give it a try.
And if I'm laughing by the end, I'll consider the "special edition DVD with the past Postal games included", but by "dvd" they'd better mean "blu-ray" and by "past games" they'd better mean "the full, complete games included, not a bare bones stripped down thing".

@Jonn:
It's actually not as derivative as the "______ Movie" franchise.
It's not the best comedy ever, but Foley puts in a pretty solid performance.
If this was a movie made by say . . . Troma it'd be par for the course.

I heard the movie was actually decent, considering it was from Mr. Boll.
But to compete with Indiana Jones?! Are they effin crazy!? Are they trying to purposely make the Postal movie fail!?

am i the only one who's convinced that this movie will actually be entertaining? i mean, the rest of his films can burn in hell, but i think this is the kind of movie that uwe boll was made to do. tasteless schlock garbage. so bad it's good in a 70's exploitation cinema way.
i'm going to go see Postal knowing indiana jones 4 is going to be a disappointing pile of crap that was TRYING to be a great movie. as opposed to an entertaining movie that knows it's garbage so it pumps up the level of nasty.

You know, I actually got a laugh from House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark. So bad that they were... well, worse. But in an entertaining way.
Bloodrayne, on the other hand, was so bad and so boring that I had to stop after about 30 minutes.
However, I saw the opening scene for Postal on Youtube:

Can it really "take on" Indiana when it is such a low caliber movie that it won't be played in over 1000 screens? It's like my dog "taking on" Indiana with my one man show called "Takin A Crap" (A proper analogy I believe.)

Man! Not even one percente of you posters seem to have seen the movie, while making judgement. man the worse of the worse...
There are some nice scenes in the movie, not the whole movie, but what do you expect? The game did not sell good either and it was fantastic. How can you build an opinion without seem them. Like the white **** from IMDB, which vote black movies with 5 stars and Boll movies with 2.
I've seen some of his movies and most even deserve their ratings, but this "stupid" crappy "oh it's U-wee, so start bash him" posts are even worse than his films.
There would never be any game-movies when Boll did'nt do them. Max Pain is the first one not from him?

South Park isn't offensive, disgusting or stupid for no reason, it's mocking people like Uwe and delivering a message. That message is usually something like 'Can you believe people this stupid really exist? Oh boy.'

That headline implies that Postal is going to do even 1/100th as well as Indiana Jones upon its release, and I think we all know that's not going to happen.
"Postal Released on same day as Indiana Jones IV" would probably be more accurate.

I'm sorry, they showed a bit of this at PAX last year when they brought Boll on stage in place of JT. What I saw of it, was horrible. I literally walked out on it. Its not like I don't like crude humor (big Kevin Smith fan for example), but he left the humor part out.. it was just crude.
I wouldn't wish this movie on my worst enemy...

Imagining, for argument's sake of course, that Postal turns out to be a decent movie, and in the off chance that someone is able to convince me that I wouldn't shed viscous tears of remorse by submitting an hour and a half of my life to this man's direction, there still isn't a chance in hell that a cent of mine would reach his pocket over Indiana Jones.

Ok, I'm getting tired of saying it, but here we go again.
Postal is a very good comedy. Of course, you've got to like the genre of comedy, but if you liked Borat, you're going to like Postal a lot.
I saw it at a film festival and you can be assured I will be buying the DVD when it becomes available.

No, epic bomb for Uwe Boll was Dungeon Snore - that was by far his most expensive film to date, and the biggest crash when it actually opened. The question is - can Postal really be any worse than a Date Movie or Epic Movie? If it features one laugh it has both of those beat. :)
