Relic Waging Endless War On Humanity With Dawn Of War 2
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 3:20 PM on February 27, 2008
VG247 are reporting that Relic are already hard at work on Warhammer: Dawn of War 2. Makes sense. The first - and its legions of expansion packs - are the best Warhammer games since Space Hulk, and really succeeded in bringing the franchise to life. Still, if true, the good news is tinged with a little sadness: I was really hoping Relic would be doing Homeworld 3 instead (though, hey, they might be doing both!)

C'mon Relic! Bring back Impossible Creatures!
Seriously, though - this was practically fact some years ago in an interview at IGN - they asked why the Tyranid weren't included, and the Relic rep said that they were too unique for what they were doing at the time, but definitely in Dawn of War 2.

I just hope your referring to "Space Hulk: Vengance of the blood angels" which is a better game in my case as the atmosphere is just so right. Still works on xp over some LAN luckily : )
Just hope dawn of war 2 isn't as shallow..

@skullpanda:
yes it would, after all they still have trouble balancing the table top game because of those differences especially in the case of the Tyranids genetic differences (i forget what that is called), and Eldar and their different craftworlds. but it would make things interesting especially with the Space Marines, and add an interesting amout of strategy. but i tend to agree with you that i is unlikely

He guys.
With "Tyranids has been done, and is called Starcraft 2."
I don't mean Tyranids are a clone of Starwars. That is a nonsense. Maybe is the other way around, that all the Starcraft universe is a ripoff of Warhammer 40K.
What I mean, is that If you want to fight hordes of next-gen insectoid foes, you will buy SC2 and play the human campaing, or something. Has been done, the idea of "armored guys with flamers and autoguns vs hordes of zergs".
I am just reading the book "The flight of eisenstein". So I am not on teh good side, guys. O:-D

The game mechanics are mostly fine with me... just give me more army-painting options with customization for different units (including addons like skulls and the little wolf tails the Space Wolves had, etc...)
DoW is almost perfect in many ways, IMO there's mostly tweaking that needs to be done to fix up minor things.

Hell yeah, we had known this for a while but this confirmation is just the sweetest. One of the best RTS series after the Golden Age of the genre, and bound to be eons ahead of Starcraft 2 in terms of innovation.

@kenjara: Who needs Homeworld when you...what?! Sins Of A Solar Empire is good, no doubt, but it's not really comparable to Homeworld. The 4X mechanics of SoaSE give the combat a different angle. Homeworld deserves a third installment.
And another intro where the adagio-for-strings sends shivers up my spine. Try finding that feeling in any other game, let alone RTS!

Hell yes, I hope that they take the game even further from standard RTS-game formula, DoW really was a great game but after playing the game too much it just felt like another RTS-game, if you know what I mean.
So new ideas please, would be nice if there would be a different Space Marine chapters for example, with differrent style of play and unique commander units.

Tasty.
I do hope that they're working on HW3; Sins isn't bad, but plays too much like a 4x for me to love it like I did Homeworld.
People grousing about Homeworld 2's story line should search for the original design documents, which one of Relic's writers released a couple of years ago; the story was arguably as good as (I think even better than) the first, but Sierra evidently deemed it too highbrow, and the result was the half-baked story that went into HW2.

Homeworld doesn't have demons that crawl from the nether regions of space to exert inconceivable Godly powers upon space marines with chainsaws. Dawn of War does. Therefore, it's understandable that they'd make another WH game instead of Homeworld.
Perhaps they'll create a massive RTS that incorporates Homeworld style space battles from the Warhammer 40k universe with Dawn of War ground combat.
