Secret Agent Clank Cinema and Gameplay
I am always glad to hear another Ratchet and Clank is coming down the pike. I loved Size Matters and still think it's one of the best looking games on the PSP. Hopefully, this one can live up to it.
This time around, Clank gets the titular role as he sets out to rescue his good friend Ratchet from his fate in prison. What did Ratchet do to land in such hot water? Watch and find out! Make the jump for a little bit of gameplay as well.

i liked size matters, but i dont know.. something about playing as just clank makes me disinterested. at first i felt that way about daxter, but i at least thought he was a decently designed character though. i dont know though, i dont know. also, ive never been as big a fan of rachet and clank as i was jak and daxter. ah well, we'll see, ill probably get it..

@WaterMedia: Out of curiosity... have you played the series? You see, I don't know anyone who has played them with regularity who feels negatively about the continued iteration. Instead, everyone I know chomps at the bit for more. Granted, that enthusiasm would likely decrease if the franchise came out more than once per year.
But you're also talking about a genre of gaming that is curiously vacant on consoles as of late.
Maybe some other developer would like to step up to the console space and produce triple-A platformers to fill the void? 360 has... none really, unless you count Kameo from back at launch. PS3 has... nothing else close. Wii has Mario... but most of the 3rd party platforming has been junk.
Then again, this absence of other options might be skewing everyone's view. Give me some other cartoon platformers and I'll consider the possibility that they're diluting the franchise rather than coming to a genre's rescue.
Besides, this is on PSP, not on PS3... so by that token you should also roll the DS Mario-related platformers into your own perspective as well. Between the Yoshis, Peaches, New Super Marios, etc on DS, that pushes Mario platformers well past Ratchet for the same recent timespan (Super Paper Mario is more platformer than RPG too, I think, so it should be considered).
You have a point, of course... but sans other platforming options, and as long as the quality is high, I will continue to buy them. Even if it were once per year, per platform. The other option for Insomniac would be to pass up money... or to dilute the franchise with kart racers and the like, an approach that left a previous Sony mascot in shambles.

Was it the quality of the video, or does the entire game have that faux-tv look to it, where you can see the analog-style lines? I'm hoping it's just the quality of the video, cause I love me some Ratchet and/or Clank.

@WaterMedia:
I'm sorry, I'm trying and trying and trying to see your point on this. It's hard, you see, because your point sucks.
What you're saying is essentially if a series of any quality has annual sequels or the like, this invalidates the series regardless of the quality. This is an odd statement to make. Because you're arguing against quality in favor of holding back games just to make us yearn for them more. That is the jist of your stance, right? I'm not making this up? okay... so now it's time for me to respond.
Ratchet & Clank is a series that got progressively better with each iteration and that includes the supposedly inferior Ratchet:Deadlock. With each new chapter, we got all new wepaons, a new weapons leveling system and customizable mods, and even got all new minigame modes and most importantly, all new adventures. This is a series that has essentially taken progressively better steps.
I wish I could draw parallels to some other series. But frankly, I can't think of a single series that has had seven annual games and (pending Agent Clank) it has gotten better each time. Every other series has gone downhill.

@WaterMedia: Look, if it's a good, clean, fun game, thats all that matters in the end, not the amount of titles that the company releases in a short period of time. Nintendo still rape the shit out of Mario, but those mario games are fun games, and that's all that matters in the end.
If Insomniac was releasing crap every year like Tony hawk, then yea, I can understand, but they don't release crap, they release really addictive and fun games in that short amount of time and they release a game on a yearly basis like you said. And the games are great. If a company can do it like Insomniac can, then I say there is nothing wrong with it.

The Ratchet and Clank seris is wonderful. I can't wait for this game and the next Future instalment.
shadowfox
@WaterMedia: Nintendo still rape the shit out of Mario elsewhere

@ffmusicdj:
Real mario titles come out on average about once every console generation (ie. Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, Mario Galaxy). It is exactly because of this gap their return has such significance.
Absence makes the the heart grow fonder.
If you buy into this endless sequel-itis you are enabling studios to continue this hilarious practice. To argue otherwise is the reason why games like Tony Hawk come out every year and instantly make you forget why they were so exciting to begin with.
WaterMedia
@Arteen: Excuse me? With about 100+ Mario titles, I don't know how you could say that ...
ffmusicdj
If somebody gave me a PSP, this would be my first game for it.
artofwar420
Impostor! Nothing like original Saturday morning cartoonesque story concepts.
Warik
@ffmusicdj: I don't recall Nintendo releasing a new Mario platformer every year.
Arteen
@JackTretton: What kind of question is that. Patapon is only 20$ and comes out in 2 days... buy that. Secret Agent Clank won't be out for a few months at least, its not like they come out on the same day, buy both.
method47
hmm, this or patapon?
JackTretton
Aside from the obligatory "boo, no Ratchet!" I'm still looking forward to this one.
brello
So does the story take place in the actual R&C story? Or just as a TV show in their universe?
method47
@FusionHype:
No, it takes place between Size Matters and Tools of Destruction.
Pai Pai Master
Does this pick up where R & C Future ended since it ended with a cliffhanger about Clank himself?
FusionHype
@ffmusicdj: Thaaaaaank Youuuuuu.
Jechticknight
@WaterMedia: Never stopped Mario ... So what, Mario is Watered down?
ffmusicdj
To be honest, R&CF:TOD was my first R&C game, but I've always wanted to play the ps2 iterations. Just..Jak and Daxter always seemed to hold precedence. I think I'm going to pick this game up.
Jechticknight
Don't these developers get that by developing five immediate sequels they water down the power of a franchise?
Someone needs to pass a kindly worded note to Insomniac ASAP.
WaterMedia
YAY. I bet there will be bolts and crates full of bolts and more bad camera angles.
WatershipDown
Sure Size Matters was stupid amounts of fun... but I don't know... I just want a game like Devil May Cry on my PSP.... Devil May Shrink or some stupid title like that, lol.
Right now I'm just replaying Chrono Trigger on my PSP....
xMaverick
Dammit, I feel time poor already and this (and Patapon, and GoW:CoO) are making me want a PSP.

@Grumps: Don't forget Custom Firmware on the PSP is almost as useful as one on an XBOX. The world opens up when you stop using it for what it was meant for.
Dumari
I wasn't a huge fan of the controls for Size Matters.
Here's to hoping this game isn't just like Clanks parts in previous R&Cs as I found those to be the worst parts.
Dumari
just seems like ps one quality gaming at ps2 prices, and I loved tools of destruction. Besides portability and multimedia functionality, I don't get the psp.
Grumps
I loved how they always spoofed the james bond stuff with clank in the past games, and now I get to play one!
Awesome game.
scotty
Nice. Another game I've got to put away money for.

@Kyle81:
Gamestop has a date of June 17th, but take it with a grain of salt I guess
LittleBigPlaneteer
Date for this game? I haven't played through size matters yet.
Kyle81
The PSP looks better and better everyday :D
Glad I got mine.
LittleBigPlaneteer
That actually doesn't look that bad.
mpmaley
This actually looks pretty good. I haven't played a "Rachet and Clank" game since "Deadlocked" first came out.
Primer_Grey
Looks so promising!!! great graphics,a compelling history,and almost for sure fun and jokes everywhere,I'd liked the 007 suit of Clank,lol.
OT79
Cool. Ratchet and Clank Future was the first one I ever played, but man, was it fun. This looks to be just as good.
Guess it's time to buy a PSP again!
