Street Fighter Online Mouse Generation Lame In Motion Too
Posted by Michael McWhertor at 1:20 PM on February 14, 2008
We can maybe understand a mouse-controlled version of Dead or Alive Online, keeping one hand free, but this Street Fighter Online Mouse Generation nonsense? Unbelievable. At least you can put a fish head on your character, seemingly its only redeeming feature. That rockin' soundtrack is also good for a laugh or two.

hopefully it is an optional control method with alternative gamepad/keyboard... settings available.

That's free, right? Cause I sure as hell wouldn't want to pay for that...

I think it looks kinda cool, and a nice bit of fun. Obviously it's not suposed to be some hardcore fighting extravaganza for all the SF fanboys.

Ok, I respect the concept. Trying not to judge too soon, but I will say that there is zero blocking in this video. I don't know if they know this, but blocking is more commonplace that hitting in most fighters...especially street fighter.

It looks like they're trying to cross Rag Doll Kung Fu and Street Fighter. Who knows, maybe it won't be as bad as you all think it will be. It just might turn out to be a fun accessible fighting game, which is something the genre sorely needs.

Is Chun Li packing a package in this version too? I think the game moves really well and the soundtrack is fitting for the quality of the title. It sounds like it was custom made for Street Fighter Online. I like the part when it says, "Now you a-gaaaiiin!???"

Most say a series can only jump the shark once. Many say that SF series jumped it when they got into the Alpha series verse going to SF3. Many say it was when we got Super street fighter 2 Turbo champion High Definition edition.
Regardless, Capcom, ready the skis, your jumping jaws again.

Who knows until we play. Then I think it is fair to let all the horses out of the gate. As for the control interface I think it is an interesting experiment that might change the way the genre in general is accepted. Think of the questions people had about the Wii-mote before getting it in their hands. I don't think people would have expected it to do this well and to boot, it has opened up gaming for a whole different category of player who was once intimidated by the idea of games. The new way in which games were "accessible" (UI) was a big part of the winning formula. Maybe just maybe if the mouse controls are functional, it would give people who otherwise would have not picked up a joystick to taste this kind of gameplay. If they like the other aspects of the game, maybe that will convince them to give a full Street Fighter experience a try.
UI is an interesting subject. Today in my lab I was observing a total novice to the FPS genre try to navigate Portal using wasd and a mouse. It was very very difficult for a person to just move and look where they wanted to let alone solve the puzzle. This was a barrier in terms of getting the player INTO the game and after struggling with it my subject wanted to quit the game saying "it was boring." So after that test finished, I tried something where I was controlling the character but allowing the player to make all of the decisions. There was an re-interest in the game as soon as those control issues disappeared and suddenly the player was empowered to express her curiosity and strategy and thought the game was interesting.
I know it's inconceivable for some of us who have been playing games since Pong and Street Fighter Mouse may not end up to be OUR cup of tea but I would hate for us experienced gamers to take the rug out from under those who want to try by flooding the reviews even before it is tested.

"just click and squeeze /. . . / you die on the street / now you will game." pretty much the only lines I understood from the song (granted it gets a little more understandable with each listen. . .)
Maybe they took the song from DOA online?

This game looks cool as hell to me,it's funny how most of you know the control scheme sucks, since I have to assume you haven't played this. If I can get this in America,I probably will,as long as it has an option to turn that background music off. At the very least I'll buy a figure.

Just because it was made on a China budget doesn't mean the characters need to float like that...
It could be interesting. Interesting, yet not keeping my interest. Still, there'll definitely be the inevitable comparisons with SF EX, and then with SF4 when it comes out... as all 3D SF games must be compared. The question isn't which will come out on top *cough*SF4*wheeze* but which will come out on bottom...
Okay, it's probably this one.

Again I ask...why the hatred? Maybe it'll be fun. It certainly doesn't look "lame" as stated in the title. Different, yes. Innovative doesn't automatically mean good, true, but it doesn't automatically mean bad either.

That "CRASSH!" sound effect graphic you see is the sound of any interest in this game hitting the ground. There's still the neat control method (it is innovative), but that's about it.

Wow...
So the SF characters can fly?
The beginning sequence with Chun-Li makes it seem like MvC2 with crazy infinite juggling and all that jazz. I like MvC2 and all, but it totally doesn't fit for Chun-Li launching someone and chaining three supers in a row ala Cable. Maybe it's just me.
Controls look pretty awful, but I guess it does have a "wow shiny!" aspect to it, so maybe ADD and/or coked up teenagers will enjoy it.
