The PS3 Will Triumph In 2011?
The consumer electronics analysts at iSuppli know exactly how this whole console war is going to end (according to the consumer electronics analysts at iSuppli). While the Wii and Xbox 360 will peak in 2010, the PS3 will continue selling strong into 2011 (when it will crush the hearts of Nintendo and Microsoft while yelling "I told you so, bitches!" at the top of its lungs).
But what's possibly the more important point of this graph are the total sales of each machine that pretty much boil down to a 3-way tie. Each console is sitting snuggly in between 30 and 40 million units, making the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 each about as popular worldwide in 2011 as the PSP is today.
Whether or not this future comes to pass, it makes you wonder where the next "next gen" battle will be waged—in the living room, or in the pocket.
PS3 won't beat Wii until 2011, forecasts analyst [RegisterHardware]

@LordChris915: Glad to see you clinging to whatever you want to believe to see that your side wins. Keep that up. No, really.
Ampillion lives a life much like No More Heroes.
@Strangelove: I happen to like the Sims, I dont have a Hi tech gaming PC, my mum has MS so Folding@:home appeals to me, 5 years is more than enough time to do what is needed.
It has greater network potential because it does not rely on servers!
No doubt the MGS4 is a PS3 exclusive FOREVER!
FFXIII looks better that GOW does it not? though its not out yet T_T
I loved COD4 btw, LBP looks perhaps too good to be true, time will tell.
You cant deny that 360 sales are on the decline now, and the Wii fad seems to be closing too.
I respect you for playing the devils avocate, i dont think that you would have given such a well writen reply if i had not taunted you.
Have a good one.
LordChris915
I bought my Ps2 for a dvd player - big fucking mistake too. I used it so much it killed my PS2 for DVD watching, but at least my game playing wasn't affected.

@LordChris915:
-Blu Ray -- Is going to be obsolete in 5 years once download/streaming systems become more prevalent, a la Comcast on Demand or the Xbox Live downloads.
-Free Online -- After you pay $600 for the system, that is. PC has free online, too.
-Folding@Home -- Noble, for certain. Personally, I would not leave my $600 system on all day every day, but that's just me.
-Greater Network Potential -- According to who? You? Where are the movie downloads? Where are the TV shows? It has potential, for certain, but labelling it "greater" is subjective at best.
-FFXIII -- Is not out yet, nor is it guaranteed to hit this year.
-Little Big Planet -- A great concept, should be fun in execution. But look at the best-selling games this year (CoD4, Halo 3), they're almost all FPSs or known IPs. A brand-new IP that's a platformer you make yourself, while really cool, is hardly a killer app out of the box.
-KZ2 -- The trailers for Killzone 1 looked pretty cool until the actual game came out and it was mediocre. Lair looked really cool, too.
-Modding capabilities -- Forge on Halo 3, modding on PCs is much easier, more prevalent, and just better. Plus, you can actually mod with a PC, instead of just downloading.
-MGS4 -- Every other week we hear it'll be exclusive to PS3, then it won't. I seriously doubt it will be exclusive, particularly because they'd be giving up so much money considering 360 has twice as many consoles sold. Maybe a period of exclusivity like GTA on PS2, maybe.
-No RROD -- No backwards compatibility, either, on the newer models. Newer 360s have supposedly had this hardware problem fixed. MS has also fixed all RROD consoles for free.
-200 games -- 360 has/had more.
-Fading 360 sales -- It was ONE MONTH after there were so many sales over the holidays that there was a shortage. CoD4 on 360 outsold the PS3 version in January, and the software for 360 sold better.
-Stream PC games -- Anyone (myself included) who has a PC powerful enough to run recent games has a videocard with HDTV out. Why would you run it through a middleman (PS3) when you can just connect it directly to the TV? It's a gimmick.
-Home (free) -- Isn't out yet, and nobody seems to know when it'll actually hit. Do you like playing Second Life or the Sims? I sure don't.
-And some damn good specs -- The 360 is no slouch, either, and has more RAM. Multiplatform titles have been consistently better on 360, and the PS3 is supposedly difficult to program for. Gears of War is still the best-looking console game.
...
Look, I'm not trying to get into a 360/PS3 argument here. They're both great systems. I'm a PC gamer, primarily, and own a 360 as well. I'm waiting for Team ICO's next game to get a PS3, myself. But you're making assertions about a fluid market 3 years into the future. It's speculation at best, pure fanboyism at worst.
Strangelove
A friend of mine has Xbox live (when we got consoles the plan was for me to get a ps3 and him to get a 360 so that we would have the best of both worlds) but he now whishes that he had bought a PS3 as he nolonger has any advantage other than alot of good FPS.
When i play on Xbox live i am confronted with some of the most idiotic, racist, homophobic people i have ever met and when too many people play, the servers crash (like at christmas).....and you pay for this.
How long do you think it will be before people wise up?
One thing i am worried about is gettin all these idiots on PSN, but to be honest they dont seem like the kind who are smart enough to see the benefits of PSN.
Dont foget that there are ALOT of games that still havent decided what platform they are going for, and my guess is that they are saving up for PS3s.
LordChris915
Here is a list, i would like you to counter each point
Blu ray
Free Online
Folding @ Home
Greater Network Potential
FFXIII
Little Big Plant
KZ2
Modding Capabilities (UT3)
MGS4
No RRoD
Over 200 games lined up after 1 year
Fading 360 Sales
Stream PC games
Home (free)
And some damn good specs
LordChris915
I actually think the PS3 will catch up to and/or surpass the 360/Wii within the next 2 years. Between the high profile games coming out for it, and the fact that Blu-Ray is becoming the high-def standard, I think PS3 sales will boom soon and maintain and keep a momentum that's higher than the competition. Also, I think the Wii fad will end in another year or so.
dgonchild
@LordChris915:
Mmm, the jury's out on your PSN assumption, particularly because XBL is widely considered the gold standard. It also already has movies and tv shows for rent or purchase, has what's considered the largest and easiest online community, has been established since the previous generation, etc. I'm not saying that PSN won't evolve into a more powerful entity, but XBL, for now at least, has a substantial lead.
Again, I have no doubt the PS3 will sell more units as it ages and comes down in price, but I just don't see it coming anywhere near replicating the dominance of PS2. The 360 and the Wii are much stronger competitors than the Gamecube and original Xbox, and by the time 2011 comes around, the next generation should be making an impact.
Strangelove
@Strangelove: Well isnt it?, think of the advantage that network capabilities will bring, PSN has the potential to surplant xbox live because it hardly relies on servers, PSN is maintained by the gamers that use it, each and every online PS3 contributes to it and the network will be so big by the next gen that i can safely say the PS3 will live on for a VERY long time.
Im not saying that it will be more powerful or have better technology than the next gen but it will still be a main competetor.
BTW, the way Sony are going at it with new modles, the PS3 may well be much more powerful than next gen consoles lol
LordChris915
@Nick: Iv been around since the beginning m8, sad thing is that nobody cared what i had to say until they began to feel their console was being threatened.
LordChris915
@LordChris915:
You're forgetting how many people used the PS2 as their first DVD player. It was actually very integral into its adoption. But your argument was that the PS3 would be more powerful.
Strangelove
I think that 2008 will be the year of the PS3. The 360 sales are stinking world wide. No one is buying it and their failure rate keeps climbing. I think the console war and High Def DVD wars are over. Sony won. Microsoft and Toshiba loss...
pupaboy2
i predict in 2018, playstation 4 will finally overtake the Xbox 1337 and the Nintendo Yu... but it won't matter because top sellers will be the newcomers, the Apple iGame and the clear winner, Fox-Activision-Google-Sega's system "Trebulon".
You heard it here first.
...and btw yes... the acronym for that large mega-coproration is indeed FAGS.
joelface
@Dude27:
"The only answer to the better sales for the PS3 vs the 360 is the fear that people have for the 360 reliability."
Actually there's more than one answer. How about free online service, Blu-Ray, Uncharted, MGS4, FFXIII, GT5, etc.
"Facts stays that PS3 game is harder to develop than with the 360, have a less attractive game line up, and that Microsoft financial power won't let its console die as easily as toshiba with their HD-DVD."
Ok, it is true that the PS3 is harder to develop for, but it is also true that the PS3 is capable of more than the 360. a "less attractive game line up" is not a fact my friend, it is an opinion. what you might not find appealing others might be crapping themselves in suspense waiting for. If MS was gonna let their console die they would have done it with the original XBOX since they barely, if at all made bank on it. The 360 is here to stay, no one's arguing that, but it's dominance in this market is very questionable at this point, to say the least.
"Apart God of War 3, I don't see any winning exclusivity with the PS3 in the near future"
Really? Little Big Planet, MGS4, FFXIII, KH3. It has a tad more winning exclusives than the 360 if you ask me. Your comment makes you sound like a 360 fanboy in denial, but I'm sure that was not your intent right?
NeoAkira
@crusadernm: Crush? Based on the results lately, it seems that the 360 is facing some difficult problems. Microsoft is standing tall on a chair that will soon be kicked from under them. We can thank their arrogance for such events.
And before the fanboy card is tossed around, I know Sony was arrogant as well. Their attitude in 2006 proved as much. They were convinced that everyone would eat up their console no matter how expensive or how much later it came out. However, Sony's attitude has changed considerably over the past couple years and they seem to be more taking what gamers say to heart.
In the end, I think the PS3 will pull past the 360. And eventually the Wii, once it's novelty appeal has been worn down and the general public realizes a good chunk of the games released don't take advantage of the motion controls in a creative manner and rely on cheap gimmicks.
Not to say the Wii is a bad console. Just that a majority of developers are half assing their titles with gimmicky controls and piss poor graphics. Though titles such as Zelda and Mario are gems in the otherwise sea of crap.

Alot of posts have been stirring up the fanboys recently. Can't you all just like your own console, and not force it down our necks! I'm sure you will get good use out of which ever console you have. Why are you posting hate comments here when you could be reading some more posts? Or even be playing on your console!?
Father ColdCuts
Yeah right. Xbox 360 will continue to crush the PS3 way past 2010. No doubt about it.

Verum
2008, tops; 2011 for next-next gen dominance. You see; Sony's using a brilliant strategy; by 2011, the PS3 will be as cheap as the PS2 is now, and the tech will all be applicable: Blu-Ray, until 2018,if you look at the DVD data, Multicore Cell processor (well, technically multi SPU, HDMI 1.2 ish (HDTV's don't even have the tech to handle HDMI 1.2 yet), and multiple attachments. So the Newest Nintendo and xbox will have to most likely have these things PLUS 1up it somehow, which puts the PS3 as a cheap next-next gen console.

@tamago007: RRoD haunts the dreams of Xbox fanboys everywere, im gonna carry one round my neck to ward them off when they eventualy find out were i live and then how to open the door.
LordChris915
@Gouki4u: Couldnt have said it better, death come to us all eventualy.....except me, the queen and PS3 ofcourse.
And what a world that will be.....i just realise how much i would miss girls, food and TV...IN THAT ORDER!.
At least i could loot Bill Gates House XD
I can hear the fan boys crying as we speak.
LordChris915
The Reason why PS2 was doing so well was because there wasn't any competition in the first place.
The only way I will get a PS3 is not because of the games, FFXIII and MGS4 doesn't cut it, not because of BLU-Ray, rather get a DVD player, because of the price. IF it drops to PS2 levels which it will cause the PC is already exceeding the PS3 (Crysis should be on the machine if its a 'super computer'), besides PC you can do much more than fanwank to FF, RE and MGS characters.
Luckydan
@Strangelove: Well blu ray will carry ps3 long past its sell by date thats for sure, so you can expect it to last longer than the ps2 did...alot longer.
Ps2 never had that kind of backing, people will buy the PS3 not just for games but as a cheap blu ray player.
And if the Ps3 can out compete the current 360 and eventualy win the console war, than the PS4 is bound to be better than the next xbox.
But if Ps3 manages to secure enough game contract from its up and coming popularity than Xbox may be left with very few games, for the 360 in the coming years.
I dont see how 360 will out last the PS3 and i am very sure that the Ps3 will out last the next 360...just, in such a way as the Ps2 at least.........................AT LEAST I TELLS YA
and BTW "I TOLD YA SO BITCHES" told ya it would be me who said it.

@usfslacker: its like having polarised eyes and a magnet on each side of your head XD
LordChris915
@Strangelove: Well PS2 is last gen but it still kicks the 360s ass in japan, so yes i do think a last gen console will out compete the new xbox
LordChris915
@DaDRIZZLE: It's funny, you somehow point out that 'Like everything Nintendo makes, it has some new neato' feature, and then use the Gamecube as an example. ... What? Fail, sir. The Gamecube is exactly the opposite, they did not have any new neato feature, they had nothing that made it really any different than the other systems on the market outside of first party software, and at that point, it was certainly not enough to draw anyone away from the PS2's strong showing. It was the epitome of a secondary console. The Wii is nowhere near getting cast aside, you know why? They have lost no real momentum in sales. Sony is gaining momentum, sure. Is it from Nintendo's side? Nope. Most of the momentum is coming from MS's side, which might be a little lacking at the moment, merely because they don't really have much the big hits slated to hit their system that Sony does. (Because a lot of games just haven't hit the PS3 yet, and MS certainly hasn't come out and revealed their whole hand for the year.)
That 'neato feature' is what's put the DS and Wii on top of the markets right now, and continuing to draw developers to those markets. Will the software brought to them ever satisfy the gamer? Only time will tell. My bet is no, because by the way it looks around here a lot of the time, gamers don't ever want to be satisfied.
Ampillion lives a life much like No More Heroes.
By 2011 Wii2 will be out and nobody will care about the ps3 anymore.

Console wars are for poor people who can't afford all the consoles. PS3 leading in 2011?, laughable at best.
Poltergeist13
@Tepoz: not sure but it makes things a hell of a lot easier to read.
DaDRIZZLE
xbox can't win because their consoles are pieces of shit. who cares how good they can be, when 6-12 weeks out of the year you have to fight with microsoft over the red ring of death. even b4 that, the first original xbox i bought didn't even last a 6 months b4 taking a shit. my windows pc, takes many shits on me on a regular. so i will not support the microsoft game consoles. hell they charge you to play online. thats really lame. i already bought the game and game system that only costed months of salary, what else do you want my first born?
DaDRIZZLE
What's with the bolding?
Tepoz
I've always thought that Xbox360 wouldn't win just due to its hardware problems. Tying with everyone would be the best it could possibly do. It's a good system with way too many problems. Wii I think will sell more than the other two once it gets some software momentum to support its hardware momentum. PS3 is a playstation brand, which always seems slow to build momentum. But once it gets going, it really gets going. Once the expected software starts hitting, sales are going to really take off I imagine.
Shadowmist
@baked ham: Kameo & Oblivion look & run way better than God Of War 2 does. GoW2 has really low-poly, low resolution models & textures and constantly tears. I would also imagine GoW2 runs at around 30fps or less.

the wii will die off soon. i don't know of any gamer (who has the 3 new systems) that plays the wii more than 360, or ps3. just like everything else nintendo has made, it has a new neato feature but quickly gets tossed to the side. think about gamecube. didn't make enough good titles to keep it going. plus it lost it's luster quickly. sony makes systems that stay around a while. nintendo has probably already moved on to their next system and will start neglecting the wii now.
DaDRIZZLE
@madflava: I won't lie. The only reason I even want a ps3 is for the blu-ray and upscaling.
After the small stint of the greatest the ps3 has to offer atm I'm not too sure I'll be using it as a game system much.
manjikengo
PS3 will probably be the most popular Blu-Ray player. I can't really say that my PS3 is a gaming machine since I use it many to play DVDs and BR DVDs. I do play the occassional game once in a while but it mainly use it as a media player for my LCD Widescreen.
madflava
well with blu-ray currently winning the format wars, i can totally see sales picking up as soon as they completly do away with hd-dvd, which will be very soon.
DaDRIZZLE
no way sony will launch new console in 2017. That seems awfully far away. Hint: Be more creative than just putting another number on the end.

Uh oh, somebody forgot to close their bold tag.
@baked ham:
I don't disagree with anything you're saying about PS2. It's a great system. I just disagree with the assumption that the PS3 will be more powerful than the next Xbox. It's hardware that comes out YEARS afterwards, and in all likelihood will contain the latest/greatest tech. The PS3 is powerful, but it can't bend time (or Moore's Law).

@Fallible: I honestly expect one of the gaming companies to buy up the HD-DVD format on the cheap once it fails as the primary movie disc format for use on their next gaming hardware. Will anyone honestly say it's worth much now? No. And outside of manufacturing the diodes that read the discs, is there any reason that the price would go up at all with there being no other demand for it?
Of course, it's all merely speculation, if the price isn't cheap enough to buy it up lock-stock-barrel and produce games off of it compared to another format, it won't happen. What were to happen if we start seeing those large flash drives or SD-type cards become a standard? What if we move from cartridge to disc to cartridge again? Could be a lot of change coming next gen... Or, rather, hopefully there is...
Ampillion lives a life much like No More Heroes.
i'm going to make it simple so that everybody understand. Xbox 360 has not win this round of console nor WII. WII is for kids and family. the battle is between XBOX 360 and PS3. PS3 is winning this round everywhere except in the USA... big deal... PS3 had one year later start and now it is maturing, it is a great machine which kick ass XBOX 360. i kn ow i bought myself a ps3 and my kids brother inlaw a XBOX 360... what a piece of craps that XBOX 360, they dont even compete in the same league as far as hardware quality goes and it get worst with the user interface. XBOX live is very poor and once home is there on ps3, xbox live will be obsolete. XBOX 360 is for kids or retarded adults vs PS3 which is for family, gamers, videophile, music lovers... everything done perfectly. so even if in 2010, microsoft get there new xbox or nintendo there new console... that might not be enough because PS3 will already be mature and the best console to date.
josmelfi
Isn't "winning" at the last second the equivalent of the Russians just now getting around to landing on the moon?
That being said, between Blu-Ray taking over and Wii's casual audience popularity, I can see PS3 and Wii virtually tying, but if PS3 sells more at the 11th hour, no one will really care; especially when Wii will have penetrated the market via games alone.
Besides, 2010 - 2012 will be the arbitrary start of the 8th generation, spearheaded by none other than Apple with the "iGame".
theblogcomics
Sure the 360 sales will go down, but I think we can expect Microsoft to be announcing a new console in 2009 or 2010. It's about time. The 360 has been out since 2004, and from the date of unveiling, it will be about two years before the new console hits the market, leaving the Xbox 360 with a lifespan of eight years.
Sony's console is dying, it's not something even the biggest of fans can deny. With fewer developers producing games solely for the PS3 (this is due to the ridiculously difficult to work with Cell software), it's losing its luster.
I love all three consoles, and own them, but you can't seriously believe that the PS3 is going to outshine both Nintendo and Microsoft. That's just dreaming.
alice_mega
@manjikengo: man you really couldn't sound more stupid than you do, seriously
PwnySlaystation
@PapaBear434: Hardware sales from launch are one thing:
[vgchartz.com]
However, if you look at the weekly sales of each console, you'll notice that the 360 is going tit-for-tat with the PS3 and the PS3 hasn't been in any long leadership stretch worldwide:
[vgchartz.com]
When you factor in the American market, which bolsters the worlwide sales figures, the PS3 is actually doing worse:
[vgchartz.com]
It's one thing when your launch is supply constrained and is being overshadowed by a console that everyone else is waiting on. It's another thing entirely when the console that everyone was waiting on launches and it doesn't catch fire.
Tepoz
shouldnt MS make one functioning console before moving on to the next..? oh wait.. they did..

@PapaBear434: I would imagine it's selling more as a PRIMARY system, than a secondary system, for the simple reason that a lot more people are interested in it that wouldn't pick up a PS3/360, or are only into gaming once it hits a certain price range. Gamers is a broad term, so that could literally mean anything. Suggesting that anyone who just owns one system isn't a gamer is pretty dumb too.
I got your point just fine, but I'd suggest you not paint little fad stickers on things if you want those points to be taken seriously.

@Strangelove: No I would not say the PS2 is more powerful... but is it necessary to own one of the 3 new videogame systems? Hell no. Only if you absolutely want to play all the newest games. Because the PS2 still can do pretty graphics, and it still has awesome games coming out. Mana Khemia, one of my most anticipated games this year, is coming to PS2. Other good games are on the way, as well. Honestly, I'd have been perfectly content with my videogaming had I not bought any of the three new systems. The PS2 is still great, and most gamers agree, because the numbers don't lie: of the 160+ million people who've bought PS2's, less than 50 million have so far found it necessary to buy one of the new systems. That's 100+ million PS2 owners around the world who have to decide on a new console, so there's still a ton of room for all these systems to grow, and I hope they all last as long as the PS2 has lasted so far. But anywhay there are definitely some 360 games that came out that were ports of games from the Xbox, and God of War 2 looks nicer. God of War 2 is an insanely attractive game for being on the PS2 or any other system.
baked ham
These guy's numbers just don't make any sense. They're assuming that the Wii will bottom out in about 2 months and that the PS3 will shoot right up until 2010, at which point it will see a sharp reduction.
I think they're just pulling numbers out of their butts.
At any rate, the gaming community as a whole has accepted that nothing looks likely to topple the Wii, and for my money, I've found that y'all are a FAR more reliable indicator of where the industry is going than these analysts.
Mr. Fap☆Fap!
@Strangelove: From what I've seen so far on the Wii, I'd be willing to argue that the last (PS2/ Xbox) generation of consoles had more to offer than it.
Was it's competitors predecessors more powerful than it? Most definitely.
More commercially successfull? Doubtful.
Fallible
Why to get the PC power for console??? it's silly because console are limited by TV resolution, why develop something higher than 1080p? Console game don't need the same requirement than a PC game... even more game today are maybe beautiful but they are also a lot shorter due to an enormous increase of budget requirement. so, Imagine with X720 or PS4...
Xbox and PS3 are there for a long time(at least until TV decide to go further than 1080p... I see only power upgrade (better chip) and lighter size in the next 5 year.
like in computer, I'm sure the power race will slow down and we will have more optimization update than a new generation of console until 4-5 years.
Dude27
Saying the PS3 is a "10 year machine"is mostly irrelevant. It doesn't matter when the machine becomes outdated and "old" because if it did, the 360 and Wii probably wouldn't be out because the xbox and Gamecube still had a decent chunk of untapped potential, only the PS2 was begging to die from its outdated-ness. I guarantee you won't see Sony starting future generations out 2 years later than the competition, and you won't see them sitting generations out either. Whether its supported or not, you will see Sony focus shift away from the PS3 about the same time the other two do.

@Ampillion lives a life much like No More Heroes.:
My point just went whizzing over your head. I mean that it's selling a lot, and that's because of it's secondary system status. It's not the primary system for anyone who considers themselves a "gamer."
Let's face it, it is the must have item because everyone says it is. Once they get it, most people get disillusioned with it and it collects dust. It will likely never be anything BUT a secondary system.

@baked ham:
I disagree. But he was asserting the PS3 would still be more powerful, would you argue that the PS2 is more powerful than the 360? Even the Wii? No ...
Strangelove
@Fallible:
Well, the Wii is more powerful than the Xbox. But MS is not going to nerf their next console. Their main demographic would jump ship.
Strangelove
@Strangelove: I'll tell ya this much, God of War 2 on the PS2 looks better than a lot of the 360's launch games.
baked ham
@LordChris915: You are hilarious :)
Zho
@Strangelove: Original Xbox V. Wii?
Fallible
@LordChris915:
I'm going to buy the nex Xbox. Do you really think the PS3 is somehow going to keep getting more powerful with age? Yes, they'll find ways to better optimize the games for the hardware to get more out of it, but if you really think that a current gen console will be more powerful than the next generation, I ... well ... that's just silly.
Strangelove
I'm kind of confused. Why do they think the 360 and Wii installed bases will shrink as betwen 2010 and 2011? I guess they're predicting that support for the two systems will completely be dead by then, but the PS3 will continue to have strong suport? Kind of like what happened with the 3 companies last gen? With Nintendo & Microsoft killing off their consoles after 5 years, and Sony's system getting good support into it's 8th year....
baked ham
It'll probably continue selling into 2011 because of all the people waiting to finally buy the PS3 at a reasonable price.

Smellevision replaces television in 2011... ^^

@Hiero Glyph: Well, obviuosly Miyamotoschin understand my point, you not,and it's useless to debate with fellow like you,it's obvious that sequels sell a lot,but you can understand that if the previous game has been released in the same system, the sequel can increase the sales, but not like the first one,but the stupidity is flowing everywhere, don't you?
OT79
Who is gonna buy an Xbox720?
Really?
PS3 will always hold a special place in my heart and by 2011 it will be so powerful that even a new Xbox will not stand in its way, dont forget that the PS4 come out around the same time.
And BWT, its me who is gonna be shouting "I told ya so Bitches" just to set the record straight
LordChris915
The PS3 will peak in 2011 because that will most likely be the year I waste money on it!
CollapseControl
@Dude27: Well along with God of War 3 you have missed some great games like Final Fantasy XIII Versus (even the FFXIII main one if SE don't launch this year),The next project ICO team, the exclusive Rockstar game,The Agency...and tell me what is up to 360 anyway?
I say that's better to wait the GDC and the E3,Leizpig and TGS for make clear statements,we don´t know what surprises the three big have for us.Exciting.
OT79
I just want great games, lots of fun and speed. But if Sony sells more PS3, they damn well better start giving the ability to shut you up when I am online (mute, kick, & block).
Xbox Live still rules.
Wii...meh.
SigmundTheSeaMonster
@OT79: Actually, yes, you have a good point there. I made a bad comparison, Halo 3 was out for the 360, Halo 2 for the original XBOX. The correct comparison to make would be Halo and Halo 2, which came out for the same console. Halo sold 5 million copies according to wikipedia (yes, I know it is wikipedia, but the number has to be close) and Halo 2 sold 8 million copies.
I would have to agree that Gears of War becoming the next Halo is somewhat unlikely, considering how wildly popular Halo was, and how hard it is to create that kind of success at will. But sequels can move consoles, that's my point.
MiyamotosChin
Didn't some analyst just recently "predict" the new console generation will start in 2010? That sounds about right, the PS3 will finally come into its own and then the new systems step in to steal its thunder.
LeChuck
@Madeira: What can I say, I'm a bold person =)
y2kenjination
@manjikengo: You realize 2011 is only 3 years away, right?
Reminds me of Conan O'Brien's "in the year 2000" skits, which he did right up through 1999.
badasscat
2011?
Too late. Competition probably rolls out their next generation in 2010, and considering the RSX is somewhat old technology even now (compared to the unified shader goodness in 360 and PC's) it'll be seriously underpowered.
It's weird. Three years ago I was certain PS3 would be THE machine of this generation, now I'm considering skipping it altogether.
Then again none of this hifi stuff matters for the average consumer, who's still quite happy with his PSTwo :)
kryo
I don't think these analysts are playing with a full deck of tarrot cards.
Volcan
@OT79: Gears of War 2 will sell systems just like Final Fantasy or Metal Gear will sell systems. It has nothing to do with any of the previous games. Heck, most people buying Smash Bros. will probably not have played either of the previous two games. Are you predicting that Resident Evil 5 will sell no copies on the 360 since the Xbox console has never had a Resident Evil game released on it before? Take a second to think about what you are trying to say before you say it; it will prevent some of the stupidity from showing.
Hiero Glyph
Honestly I think the 360 has already hit it's peak, 2008 will still be a decent year, but i'd suspect by 2009 we'll be seeing a pretty strong fall off. 2010 will see the release of a new xbox.
*shrug*
I don't think the 360 has the legs that some anylasts think it does. If and when the PS3 becomes compedative the 360 becames much less appealing to consumers.
weasl
Wait, what? Did the Wii and 360 numbers actually go down? How'd that happen?
Pezdispenser
@theprof00: My guess is that companies will continue to strive toward complete realism graphics and total immersion input devices. Not to mention new networking applications and greater use of user to user connectivity.
For a better idea I would say take a look at what the Computer Science groups at Berkly, MIT, Caltech and other universities are doing. University research is usually 5-10 years ahead of the market. And this is excluding what ever the MS, Ninetendo, and Sony think tanks are up too.
Exicting time my friend! Exciting Times!
TaggarT6
@MiyamotosChin: Well, you got a point, but I insist, there's no chance a sequel bring more sales to a system where the first one had released,in this chase you pointed the jump from XBOX to 360,Gears of war 2 is scheduled to appear in the same system of the first one.The most of people that wanna to play this game, already have the system for play the first, got my logic?
OT79
@FranksnBeans: At the end of 2011, the PS3 will be 5 years old. I seem to remember that quite a few people still gave a shit about the PS2 after 5 years - and the only reason the Xbox is deader than dead is because MS forcefully retired it, not because people suddenly lost interest.
Something a lot of internet-dwelling gamers (like me;) ) tend to forget is that the majority of the gaming public is not made of people who buy every new console within 6 months of release.
All About Lily Chou-Chou
Yes. Let's predict what I will want three years from now. Because most of the technology of three years ago really doesn't appeal to me much today. My fat-ass digital camera with the tiny screen and my six-generations ago iPod for example.
Look at the jumps that have been made in the past three years and tell me that anyone can predit this. Pointless.
