Wii Sensor Bar With Digital Clock Jammed In It
Not sure whether to file this under ingenious or pointless. Peripheral maker CYBER Gadget has put a digital clock in its 2Way Sensor Bar. It costs ¥1980 ($US 18) and can powered by an open USB port or four AA batteries for wireless mode. $US 18 is a small price to pay for not having to look at your watch while playing Wii games!

Really, it's more of a clock with a 'sensor' bar crammed into it. Or rather, stuck on the sides - which you can do to anything. You just need some infrared LEDs placed a foot apart. Apparently the official Wii ones flash, but it's not neccesary - as we've seen, even candles work. In my own experience, sunlight does.
I... really, really want that. Ever since the demise of the VCR I've missed having a clock sitting on my AV shelf. (I should buy a clock? That's absurd!)
Cool, but ultimately pointless. I already have a larger digital clock that's right next to my TV.

Not a bad idea. I still don't understand why Clubhouse Games is the only DS game I have that has a clock on the display.
supercrap
I actually had interest in this product until I got a good look at it. First of all, it's quite thick and that white frame is fairly unattractive. The sensor bar should be subtle so it can be hidden and unnoticed. Secondly, it's a very simple LCD side lit clock. They could have at least made it with light up LCDs so it looked completely black except for the numbers. I think I'll pass. Too bad to since my new cable box no longer has a clock on it.
Hagame
Hey, as long as the clock stay permanently on, I'd buy it. Currently I use my Logitech Squeezebox as a clock when it's not on. You'd be surprised how often I use it.

OH MY GOD, THIS ANSWERED MY PRAYERS.
My friends were all "Oh hey, we're having a party at your place on march 9th when smash comes out right?"
because I have a hugeass projector. But I'll be damned if there's an easy way to get a wii sensor bar working with a projector. Not anymore. Wireless battery powered sensor bar across the damn room. Glorious. I'm going to order one now.

@gamadaya: It's my sex box...and her name is sony lol

@magic_envelope:
I don't know, it has something to do with trees or something.
gamadaya
@skitzogreg: no, they're horrible, but on kotaku, there's little difference
thejakeman: probably disagrees with you
This would be perfect in my old projection setup where I had all of my equipment in the back of the room with the projector. The wireless sensor bars are annoying in that they require batteries. This one would let me get one of the millions of generic USB wall plugs and plug it in at the front of the room.

Oh useless gadgetry, when will the mad inventors ever learn?

These comments are fantastic.

@gamadaya: ... books? What is 'book' ?
magic_envelope
@gamadaya: At least he didn't say whats a Betamax. Than I'd have definitely felt old.
@Topic: Hey, at least you'll have some reason to actually look at your sensor bar now. Nothing like knowing how much time your spending on a game while trying your hardest not to think about how much time your spending on a game.
KeroseneClimax
The first time I looked at the title of this, my lysdexia kicked in and I didn't see the "l" in the word "clock".
bobtheduck
Does anyone here not have the time in the same room as their wii?
Well, at least it's glowy... and blue. That good for something... no?

@Lixie:
Comment of the day. No joke.

My sensor bar is stuck to the top of my TV, I wouldn't mind something like this to give it some function.
Sabre_Justice: Look, I have a long name too! Yay! I'm such a trend whore!
I feel the same way about this I did about the wireless nunchuck...but more so.
Coming soon...a Wii sensor bar that you can...set your cell phone in to charge. Or it makes orange juice. JK.
Lame peripherals like this should be shipped directly to the island of misfit toys at their conception.
red_queen
Finally, its now possible to play the Wii -and- realize that it only took 15 minutes to lose interest!
what an age we live in =D
(calm down, its a joke)

@magic_envelope:
Yes, it is now, but most people don't know that at one point, it was actaully a widely used video playing device. You know those cassettes that you use to even out table legs and make your bookcase look fuller without actually buying books? Well guess what they're for.
gamadaya
The sensor bar should have a programmable digital LED message scrollers. Tehee...

@Lixie: Hey, some people can't drink water, atleast your condition is not fatal :D
Irenicus-the one and only
every gadget is better when it has digital clock on it...
icepick314
@gamadaya: A VCR, in your case, the original SeXbox...
AntiZERO
All I do is slightly move my eyes to the left to check the time on my alarm clock..
And dang that clock looks cheap.. The display looks like that of those Burger King digital watches you get with your kids meals.. Or those watches you get in your goody bags at parties...
Ohhhh what I'd do for a Wii Sensor + DigiClock in my goodybag! ;D
Chissu
@NeoAkira: Everyone seemed to get it dude.
@AntiZERO: Yeah, like my parents when they bought first color tv and shit. As well as a recorder.

@gamadaya: sex with a VCR is a primary function, not just some ancillary feature =)

@Irenicus-the one and only: A while back, I found out my parents shelled out $900 big ones for a VCR, and $1100 for a 13 inch TV when they first came out (it was their first set). DAMN!!!! To think what else will be around in later years, other than the PS3...
AntiZERO
Buy a nine dollar clock and put it on the wall. Powered by batteries, lasts forever, and best of all you can read it from a distance.
Maldron
If only they could come out with something that let me smoke cigarettes while playing Wii... It's real hard.
MoogPaul
I'd rather have a sensor bar plastered with pornography.
oh wait, mine already is ;)
magic_envelope
I can't read digital time, only analog. It's a rare condition.

@Bigfoot:
I knew you were joking, but the scary part is that I can't tell if everyone who replied to your comment knew that as well 0_0

@Irenicus-the one and only: I sure don't know what preasure, but it sounds dangerous. Becareful. Hey i was going to ask you what does IDF actually stand for? I could search it by i rather have an explanation for jU!
Shindokie: Kotaku's Whore
@Bigfoot: You made me feel old :( Don't joke, people have high blood preasure.
Irenicus-the one and only
@Bigfoot: Its this thing that plays a black tape, but the cool thing about the black tape isn't that you put inside the vcr but the string inside it. You can create your own paper toilet castle but now it comes in black.
Shindokie: Kotaku's Whore
@Bigfoot: Awesome comment! I haven't owned a VCR in years. HAHA!
Kilbe
I was just joking :P
Bigfoot
This seems pretty useless. If you're gonna spend 18 bucks on a wii sensor bar with a tiny clock in it you might as well go to Radio Shack and pick up a more useful, LARGER clock for much less than $18.
NeoAkira
I haven't even turned on my Wii in 8 months so this would be useless to me, but that this is an ugly monstrosity compared to the standard sensor bar. They sleek sexy original just blends in so well that is is virtually invisible.
I can't imagine anyone wanting a huge, white block with an ugly clock in it replacing it, but there is a market for just about every product I suppose.
Kilbe
@Bigfoot:
It's the thing you use to route av cables through when your TV doesn't have composite inputs.
Also you can have sex with the slot.
gamadaya
@Bigfoot: How old are you? lol I have a recordable dvd player to, compensates?
Irenicus-the one and only
It is an ancient technology used my cavemen to make those crazy wall paintings you see on the history channel.
Ohmsford
That's what my cable box is for.
Kovitlac
Because I really look at the clock a lot when playing Wii. How else would I know when play time is over?

I already have this, on my VCR...
