Zero Punctuation Plus A Touching Love Story
Posted by Mike Fahey at 5:20 AM on February 14, 2008
This week Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw of X-Play fame takes a look at SimCity Societies and doesn't quite like it, coming to the conclusion that drawing your own city in MS Paint would be a more fulfilling experience - but that's not important. What is important is the touching story of love and loss that follows the review, featuring characters from Valve's Team Fortress 2 and a musak version of "Up Where We Belong" from 1983's An Officer and a Gentlemen. It'll bring a tear to your eye. Share it with someone you love this Valentine's Day.

You, my friend, are missing out on some of the best games in HISTORY.
Please, do yourself the favour and try your hand at SimCity 2000. It's probably the most 'classic' sim game of its type, still highly playable with its graphics and whatnot all these years later.

Brought about by my non-ownership of Orange Box or TF2: how did Yahtzee get the medic and heavy weapons guy to pose like that in the pics? Is that an in-game feature? 'Cause if it is then the internet should've been flooded with inappropriate fan-made vids of that sort right now, and that doesn't seem to be the case.
Oh, and should I really buy The Orange Box even if I'm not a fan of FPSes and I own a PS3 (heard it plays kinda bad there)?

@Komrade_Kayce: Yeah, felt the same way, but I think it's the game he is reviewing's fault. It seems like he was bored with the game (not rare), but not bored in any new or original way. Most Sim style games have had the faults he extols... I think it's the games that really aggravate him, or provide some sort of new mediocrity to the industry, those are the ones where he shines.
Also helps if more than a couple people have played the game. Sorry, Adam.
TF2 ending was awesome.

Reading comics = Molesting prepubescent children. Ok, gotcha. Stick to original material, not tired clichés. Other than that, his bit about making a brutal authoritarian dictatorship because it makes "his balls feel big" was hilarious. Nothing justifies wanting to create a totalitarian state like the feeling of having bigger cojones.

Reviews for games that no one gives a toss about are always going to be found less funny. I bet the review for Metal Gear Solid 4/Grand Theft Auto 4/Super Smash Bros Brawl gets "zomg best evar!!" comments up the ying-yang, which is both painful and (in some countries) illegal.

When the heavy knees down and hugs the tombstone, and then walks away, he seems to have left a "little" gift for the Medic.

Just a small complaint, Kotaku. Yahtzee isn't of X-Play fame. He was famous before he started to be featured on X-play. So, yeah, just a minor detail. Maybe you could say "of Escapist Magazine fame" or "author of some of the most amazing and funny reviews of games ever fame."
