Babysitting, Now Without Getting Paid
Posted by Tori Floyd at 7:00 AM on March 11, 2008
As the oldest child of four, I'm no stranger to babysitting. But I'm sure many of you only and youngest children felt left out of the diaper-changing, room-cleaning, child-screaming fun. Now, no child or teen need miss out on the "joys" of babysitting, thanks to the recently announced Babysitting Mania:
"Babysitting Mania brings the fun and excitement of this universal teen occupation to the DS," said Gui Karyo, Executive Vice President of Operations, Majesco "This dynamic task management game will keep even the oldest babysitter on his or her toes."I would be laughing much, much, much harder at this game if I hadn't spent many years of my life reading The Babysitter's Club, dreaming of the day I too could be a responsible teen. I'm disgusted that my younger self would buy this game in a heartbeat.
MAJESCO ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES 'BABYSITTING MANIA' FOR NINTENDO DS™
Popular Online PC Title Coming to Handheld This Fall
EDISON, N.J., March 10, 2008 - The multi-tasking mayhem ensues, as Majesco Entertainment Company (NASDAQ: COOL), an innovative provider of video games for the mass market, and Gogii Games today announced Babysitting Mania for Nintendo DS™. Based on the hit PC simulation, Babysitting Mania challenges players to manage unruly kids, lists of chores and out-of-control houses without losing their cool. The game is also the sequel to the smash success Nanny Mania that has been downloaded more than 7 million times.
"Babysitting Mania brings the fun and excitement of this universal teen occupation to the DS," said Gui Karyo, Executive Vice President of Operations, Majesco "This dynamic task management game will keep even the oldest babysitter on his or her toes."
In Babysitting Mania, players progress through more than 100 levels of fast-paced, overlapping challenges as they feed, entertain and clean up after rambunctious kids in 20 chaotic houses. Players use the Touch Screen to manage every aspect of the household with speed and precision, from strategically employing "timeouts" to overseeing bonus birthday party levels that add neighborhood party guests to the mania. Players must also care for children in various stages of their lives--from babies to toddlers to teens. Only the ultimate babysitter will survive the frenzy!
Babysitting Mania for Nintendo DS is expected to release in Fall 2008. For additional information about Majesco's exciting line of products, please visit the newly relaunched www.majescoentertainment.com.

LOL, man, I love your posts Tori. I never really pay attention to who actually posts, but I noticed that I enjoy your articles/posts about girl gaming. Or Female Interactive Art usage. Whichever term you prefer.

@DaiMacculate: despite reading several books in the series, i never understood it either. never wanted to babysit my younger cousins, never hung out with younger neighborhood kids, never took responsibility for my friends' younger siblings. that probably goes a lot towards explaining my current bachelorette, 'immature' lifestyle and lack of maternal instinct. keep in mind, though, i'm a bit of a freak...

I personally think this would work a lot better on the Wii. The waggle would be great for a little Louise Woodard mini game.

I really like how their Nasdaq ticker is "COOL".... I wonder if any company have "PWND", it's kind of disturbing that the company that brought us Bloodrayne is making/publishing this game..
play an evil babysitter that drink baby's blood and disembowl the family dog???

As a male who was into typical male activities and goofing off as a child/teen, the female child's obsession with familial responsibility was always a bit baffling. Why would you want to idolize more responsible and organized older teens? I understood the desire for greater authority, but part of being a child is ignoring responsibility until you're forced into it by time and maturity, at least thats how I always saw it.
Not intended as a sexist remark, just an exclamation on how alien that viewpoint was to me when I was the age of those books' intended audience.
Also, we need to break down the babysitting double-standard a bit, nobody ever wanted to hire me when I tried to do it because I'm a guy. I know many teenage guys suck, and parents have to be cautious, but still. Who knows how many more SNES and PSX games I might have had, were it not for my gender keeping me from those fat babysitting monies ;)

Majesco is still AT LEAST decent shovelware, if there's such a thing
while Ubisoft is pumping out HORSEZ, BABYZ, BUNNIEZ, DOGZ, CATZ, or whatever they can pull out of their asses WEEKLY. I think their titles are about 50% of DS games

OMG I always wanted to play this game! My mum said that I would learn to be responsible and have lots of fun while playing this game! Paying the developer to let me babysit toddlers to teenagers and learning to be responsible would be much more fun than spending $10 in a carnival shooting at said (insert toddler/teenager) into the water tank and laughing at them would be a total waste of money.
On second thought, I probably GET PAID TO BABYSIT A REAL TODDLER INSTEAD AND GET LIFE EXPERIENCE WITHOUT FORKING OUT A CENT

When that failed, I went to video games. :P

I can see the copy now: Features minigames that let you make long distance phone calls, send the kids to bed early and then sneak you boyfriend into the house for a little french kissing on the sofa. Rapdily tap B and say "No" into the microphone to reject his advances to second base!

I LOVED the Babysitter's Club books as a kid. However, I hated the actual activity of babysitting and avoided it at all costs, much to my relatives-with-small-children's dismay. The best thing to come out of the Babysitting Mania game will be to keep people from EVER having children. Hopefully.
