How'd You Find Kotaku?
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 11:40 PM on March 14, 2008
ALL YOU BASTARDS EVER DO IS TAKE, TAKE, TAKE. Now, it's our turn. We're introducing a new semi-regular feature here on Kotaku called "Tell Us Dammit". How it works: We ask a question, you answer it. Simple and no strings attached! This isn't some marketing survey or whatever. It's an emotional investment in you. Yes, we're interesting in knowing you, Kotaku reader person. You probably know fucktons about us — more than you even want to, we're sure. But, hey, we'd like to know about you. That way you won't be some faceless blob — and we might feel a tinge of guilt when we ban your arse. Or not, because really we're incapable of human emotion. Whichever!
Question: How'd you find Kotaku?
Me? At one time, I was a Kotaku reader. Found the site through Gizmodo. Like, back in 2004 or early 2005. You know, when the site was pretty much just Crecente. Good times!

Bandai Namco has released screens of upcoming Xbox LIVE Arcade title Mr. Driller Online. The game features single player and multiplayer drilling modes that include tag team multiplayer. The game has "Standard Driller" with stages divided into 100m sections by large blocks and "Quest Driller" with, well, quests. Nice to see Bandai Namco bring Mr. Driller online. Really nice.

Ready at Dawn doesn't pussyfoot around. So ask Ready at Dawn honcho Didier Malenfant who he thinks will win this generation, and damn skippy, dude will tell you: "PS3 will win this generation when all is said and done..." He added that Microsoft has made a "dent" and Nintendo is targeting a different market and isn't comparable. (Take that Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360!) So what does Malenfant think about the current state of gaming:
Don't kid yourselves with the Wii's cute, cuddly exterior. Nintendo, and anyone else publishing on the console, are as thirsty for your cash money as any other company on Earth. So when you read this post and learn that Namco Bandai are bringing microtransactions to the WiiWare service (users can buy additional stages for word-puzzler Mojipittan), do us all a favour and don't act so surprised. You had to know this day was coming.
With Xbox 360 title Mass Effect coming to PCs this May, logic tells that Mass Effect 2 is going to eventually hit PCs. That's common sense! But when? Matt Atwood from developer BioWare says:
What you

First things first: Yair Landau is perhaps the best name of all time. Second things second: Yair Landau, formerly of Sony Pictures, has left both Sony and the movie business behind, and will instead be focusing on setting up a studio described as "a new games and animation venture to develop and produce content for use across all media". I have my suspicions about vaguely-worded things like that, but hey, how can a guy with the name Yair Landau get things wrong?
Right now, the arcade version of Tekken 6 is in loads of places, like NOT AMERICA and NOT AMERICA. Apparently, it's going to stay that way! While the game is most certainly coming to American consoles, it seems that it will not be coming to American arcades. Nothing has been officially announced, but Tekken site SD Tekken points out various reasons why the game won't be coming to American arcades, including the fact that Namco USA no longer has an arcade division and that the US arcade scene is pretty much, well, dead. Still, the cabinets are being imported. So far, Tekken 6 is playable at an arcade in Houston. Americans willing to mingle with Canadians will be happy to find the game in arcades north of the border.

This is not news. I repeat, NOT NEWS. Still, it's a pretty great pic. Here, we get a real life look at Down + Fierce Punch (in the air). Somehow, this pic so makes me want to watch
My hat's off to Lionhead for setting a game around the 15th-16th century. It's a refreshing change from castles and post-apocalyptic wastelands. Not as refreshing as this latest piece of art for the game, however, which feature this strapping young gentlemen offering his...services. Sure, games have featured proponents of the world's oldest profession before, but not to this level of gender equality. Course, I could be horribly mistaken. Getting "It" could mean the procurement of simple weapons and/or potions, but...it probably doesn't.
Microsoft's willing to bend the rules! As we
Oh, goody. MTV posted two exclusive Grand Theft Auto IV screens. That's one of them up there! There's an explosion. Hit the jump for the other.
You can keep your Pixeljunks and your skydivings and your ridiculously-spelled fl0wing. There's only one PSN game I'm interested in. And that's WipeOut HD (OK, that and Everyday Shooter). While previous press material had the game pegged for a Q4 release (nnnoooooooo!), SCEE reps have today said they're actually aiming for a Q2 release (yyyyaaayyyyy!).
Turns out the

Gaming themed shirts? Check. Gaming themed socks? Ditto. Gaming themed corsets? Hrm. This must be a first for Kotaku: a Mario corset. From the Etsy page:
Seems like only yesterday that I'd walk into an EB Games, stroll over to the 360 section and see...The Outfit, 99 Nights and a couple of pre-owned copies of Kameo. Not anymore. These days it's pretty much a grown-up console! According to Microsoft Europe's Chris Lewis, the 1000th 360 game will be released this summer, a figure that includes both boxed and downloadable titles. Keep on truckin, MS!
Yesterday,
The PlayStation 2 certainly went beyond our own expectations last month, but even Sony says that its February sales from the NPD Group were a "surprise and delight." On the PlayStation 3 front, the company rubs its PlayStation 3 sales in Microsoft's face, starting off its statement with mention of the "sales eclipse" the console had over the Xbox 360. Great, kid. Don't get cocky.
Well, maybe "pleased" isn't the right word, as the official statement from Microsoft reads a bit flustered, urges calm, reiterating its "supply constrained situation" with the Xbox 360. MS argues that what makes a winning platform isn't just console sales—it's consoles, content and community. Feel better?
With over a million hardware units sold across the Wii and Nintendo DS, nearly half of all hardware, Nintendo seems to be pretty stoked about the February it had. Software-wise, the company's own Wii Play continues to astound, pushing big Wii remote numbers. Sega and Activision saw big numbers on its DS and Wii platforms, respectively, which means another big fat third party royalty check is on its way.

If you're looking for freebies, look no further than this week's North American PlayStation Store update. Free tracks from the Dropkick Murphys for Guitar Hero III and five new themes make it worth the firmware upgrade to browse the store. Sports fans get a new demo and a pair of PlayStation Network titles get some add-on content. Make the jump for the full list of new virtual goodies.
I was casually flicking through Madman's latest DVD catalogue when I noticed the company will have the Disgaea anime available from May 14 via its online store. Yes, May is a while away, but a heads-up now is better than none at all. That's what I've been told anyway.

February was a what financial experts call a "damn good month" for the video game industry, with $US 1.33 billion in sales, according to the NPD Group. That's better than January's take and a 34% boost over the previous February. The billion-plus haul was made possible by $US 480 million hardware spending, $US 668.7 million in software spending and $US 185.3 million spent on accessories. That's a lot of millions.
Infinity Ward continues to take down the competition on the software side, with Call of Duty 4 for the Xbox 360 narrowly outselling Devil May Cry 4 in February. Capcom's decision to go multiplatform for its newest stylish action game was clearly a smart one, with the 360 version outselling its PlayStation 3 sibling by a good 60,000 copies.
