Ubisoft Starts With GRAW Teasing
Posted by Michael McWhertor at 1:30 PM on March 29, 2008
Visitors to the official Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell and EndWar web sites may have notice something unusual today—a Flash overlay that features smoldering, bullet-ridden debris that links to the official Ghost Recon web site. There, a similar Flash overlay shows a smoking black box or dossier case, then a series of mysterious videos, some of which are playable, some still locked down. The video and audio files are said to come from a recovered MACSAT or Multiple Access Commercial Satellite.
Details are pretty hazy, but it would appear that Ubisoft is planning on adding something to the Ghost Recon series. Where that will be Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 3 or something else, we don't yet know.
It may be related to the Tom Clancy "air combat" brand that Ubisoft announced last September. Ubisoft has recently trademarked a series of titles, including Strike Hawk, H.A.W.X. and R.U.S.E., but no word yet if any of these are related.
We'll continue to look around and see what we can learn. We'd hope you do the same and direct your internet sleuth findings to our tips line. Thanks for the heads up, Max!

@Erwin: You forgot the part where you have to disobey orders to go after the bad guy..and how you will suffer no consequences as a result and perhaps even be promoted.
Tom Clancy's Air Combat isn't rumored - it has been officially announced by Ubisoft. I wouldn't use the word "sim" though - I'm guessing it'll be more like Ace Combat. [www.ubisoftgroup.com]

I'm going to go with the air combat brand. What little the the videos showed had manly to do with planes. In a couple of the images you see a fighter jet being refueled and a jet they also make mention of refueling in them. You also see a shot in side of the cock pit with it showing the pilots helmet

@FlimFlaminus: Did I read that right? Fighter Sim? If that truly is a typo and you meant flight simulator, lmao @ that. If you did not, then, holy shit a Tom Clancy Fighter Sim.

Spoilers: It's a military shooter involving one or more squads saving us from a nuclear threat to be carried out by terrorists. You will take out the tangos in the day except for a single night stage to change things up. The main character WILL survive against all odds in the final stage against what appears to be the terrorist's last stand, which conveniently keeps their finger on the detonator until the last shot... some how.
I still have to say I do want to play it. It's just too much fun still.

It could be for the rumored Tom Clancy Fighter Sim. And I Agree with IntelSilver, I don't take UBI games seriously now with their track record of serious bug and crippled functionality out of the box on release. I for one am sick of paying for the privilege to beta test for them.

Cool. Looking forward to a new Ghost Recon, no matter if GRAW3 or a new direction. Well, "new" isn't the right word, but you get what I mean.
I really really liked the singleplayer campaign slash coop campaign of GRAW1 & 2, although I favour the R6:Vegas Versus & Online by a lot. A whole lot.
So yea, count me in for whatever they release. The only franchise from Ubi that I have completely lost interest in is in fact Splinter Cell.

At this point, I'm not even sure I should be taking Ubisoft games seriously or not. What with all those bugs and whatnot.

@Candlejack:
Don't get too excited. It'll probably just be an Ace Combat clone with Clancy's name slapped on it.

Well I've always liked the GRAW series I had GRAW on the 360 & GRAW2 on the PS3, and the online actually worked.

I'm gonna go ahead and jump on the ubi-hate bandwagon. I'm really sick of their games releasing in shambles. The last game I bought from them that worked great out of the box was GRAW2/PS3...and I had to wait like a year for them to release it. Screw em, I got GTA IV and MGS4 ahead.

GRAW 2 (on pc) was really fun to play with friends, however it was more like GRAW 1.5 and really didn't bring much new to the table. Hopefully GRAW 3 is a bigger step forward.

I was glad that in GRAW 2 the AI was much better than the first one though. Did enjoy using the MULE too. Granted I never bothered using it as cover like how it says you can do that if you want.

It seems to me that the first video is a mid-air refueling or a AWACS or similar aircraft. You get a glimse of a radar plane of some kind once or twice and the radio chatter sounds about right. At some point they 'disengage' from what I speculate is a mid-air refueling craft (a KC-130 or something?). Then the AWACS, tanker, or both are hit by a missle, when one of them panicly yells 'did you spot the bandits?'. Then, I think, his opposite says it was a surface to air missle.
Their recently announced flight sim seems like a good guess. But then why do all the links lead to the Ghost Recon page? I figure if not that then it is a Ghost Recon with a story based on the Ghosts having to go behind enemy lines to recover something important to national security (of course). This would be an interesting story, but it would eliminate alot of the possibilities the cross-com provided they talked our ears off about from GRAW (don't misunderstand, I loved the cross-com, and enjoyed emplementing it). You could still use air cover, but being in a hostile county would take away the majority of ground support. I look forward to finding out.

@Candlejack: Yes you read correctly. There were several rumors running around about a Flight Sim or Helo sim with Tom Clancy's name attached to it. It was published in a few game news sites last year. Now that UBI has litterally bought Tom Clancy's name, they can slap it on anything they want. Tom Clancy's Cooking Mama anyone? UBI know's that the name TC carries alot of weight even though they have mainstreamed and halo-ized the R6 and GR series with it. Using "TC" is going to lend gamer cred to anything it's attached to - example Tom Clancy's End War.... That is at least in the short term and if they don't attach it to stupid games that really have no business being called "tactical" in any shape of form.

IMHO i'm off Ubi games until they get over the "barely an expansion" style one each year games and start making REAL games again.
That and i'm tired of their constant use of the Frag dolls as tools to sell their wares.
isn't that part of the definition of being "Prostitute"?
and i quote
"One who sells one's abilities, talent, or name for an unworthy purpose."
Is it really such an amazing thing to think girls play games? my GF's fave game is GTA3 for crying out loud (along side FF7 and Kingdom hearts 2, and more recently Halo) and she's more enthused about GTA4 than i am!
so much so she's threatened to steal my X360 so she can get it and play!
I've actually asked her if i should take some pics of the back of her head as she played a game and sell them online this BS is so out of control.
"OMG! GIRLS PLAYING GAMES! SEEXY!"
bah
Games are about fun IMHO not sex, and gender holds no bounds in gaming.
Ubi's lost my attention wholely for bad customer service, half arse ports, unoriginal and unfinished games, as well as expansion like games sold at full price.
Even EA adds more things to their sports games each year than i've seen added to Ubi title "sequels" lately. (exaggeration intended)

Please be a real sequel UBI! Loved GRAW... then was dissapointed with GRAW2 for its lack of new material and shitty 4 hour campaign. Rainbow Six Vegas... awesome... and then the pile of shit "expansion" pack called Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Vegas 2 is such buggy shyte, and please, why even put the number 2 on it when its not even a cohesive sequel.
No more cheap cash in sequels UBI, give us some full all new material!

You're kidding me right?
"The Ghost Recon games are clunky, overly complicated and well, not fun."
"overly complicated" ? Must be a joke...if you think GRAW is overly complicated you surely never played the original ghost recon / rainbow six...why the hell are you playing Clancy's franchise if you cant stand "overly complicated games"...thats the point...
