Beau Bridges Will Make The Max Payne Movie Perfect
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 1:35 PM on March 20, 2008
All those Street Fighter II casting announcements mean nothing. Nothing. Because they've all been trumped by this single signing: Beau Bridges has been cast in the role of B.B. Hensley for the upcoming Max Payne movie, which will see him acting as Payne's mentor. I don't remember a B.B. Hensley in either Max Payne game, but really, that doesn't matter. Because it's Beau Bridges. Which instantly makes the character incredibly awesome.

Maybe they picked him cause the initials are the same.
But since when was a Max Payne movie coming out?!?
I need to frequent IMDB a bit more

He was in the initial Max Payne, he gets shot dead by Vinni Gogniti in the train station at the beginning of the game.
Max says something like "He's the reason I haven't gone insane yet".

while i'll agree the story was meh in max payne one and sucked in 2, the max payne series is pretty damn good gameplay wise. especially number 2, but dont ever play those games on a console, ruins the experience. the game effing brought slow-mo to videogames, and its still being ripped off to this very day haha, love it. i think i wouldnt have liked it if it was an FPS, but then again i think the only FPS worth playing is DOOM, and maybe Marathon and Wolfenstein 3d.

@RemyDuvalle: yeah, i understood what you were saying
i didn't mean to imply you were flaming or anything like that :-P sorry
i see both sides and can sympathize with both...
several times in RE4 i found myself at a disadvantage due to the semi-obstructed viewpoint...
camera and view issues are going to happen as long as you try to represent a 3d space utilizing a 2d image, so there's an element of inevitability to games having this problem...most of them do
i think what makes a game more fun or a better experience is whether or not the player feels that the positives outweigh the negatives, and sometimes the camera/view can be a negative for some/most people
with Max Payne, i really dig the style and tone of the whole game, so any control issues i had/have are 'atoned for' by the other areas of the experience...
another example would be MGS and MGS2, the forced high-angle camera was a challenge/frustration for me
i kept wanting to move it around, but couldn't until MGS3:Subsistence...
...but that didn't stop me from playing the heck out of the first two :-P
haha

@mAaron: You're right... and I hate when those FPSs have guns that are unnecessarily big. But I'm fine with them taking up some of the lower space of the screen much more than I like the 3rd-person view that prevents you from seeing immediately in front of you. Admittedly, Max Payne isn't nearly has annoying in this regard as RE4 or GoW.
However, I was just replying to the douchebag who said I didn't know what I was talking about. Just cos he likes bullshit aesthetic-nonsense over better gameplay doesn't mean my point isn't arguable. I just wanted to present one such argument. :P

@RemyDuvalle: some FPS games have guns that take up much more of the screen...
arguing about it is pointless, you should obviously just play FPS or risk being annoyed

@riffleraffle: it hurt to watch that guy play...
all those bullets...wasted...
:(
IMO
max payne games are best played using only the 9mm and going for low bullet/kill ratios

@Nihon no Purin: Yeah, cos having my character on screen is a necessity for that game, right? No.. he just takes up a large chunk of it... just like Resident Evil 4 and Gears of War (when not in cover).. would have been better if aiming was done ala Metal Gear Solid.
I don't understand people's need to see the backside of their character. Eww.. look.. my character's so awesome... look at him, diving and shit. Wow... Fuck, I can't see 20% of the screen... shit what just killed me? Oh, fucking lame.. he was right in front of me, but I couldn't see him.
Awesome.
It's not like Max Payne gives you much control of your dive after you've actually launched, it just lets you rotate and shoot... which can be done in First-Person pretty well. Oh noes! You might have to add a little HUD element that shows when you're character is standing, crouching or diving. :O
Now, I'm not against third-person shooters. But when they feel and control EXACTLY like a FPS and there's really no reason to have it in Third-person over FPS... FPS is the better option for actual gameplay. Third-person is better to appease the wankers such as yourself.

@riffleraffle: jeez, the guy in that video didn't seem like he could hit the broad side of a barn...
:-P
the game is most fun when played through using only the 9mm, going for minimal bullet/kill ratio...IMO

I liked Beau Bridges in this one episode of The Outer Limits where he finds alien scorpion-like creatures and puts them in a sandbox. They think of him as a god, since he provides food and shelter. At one point, he steps into the sandbox and the colonies of creatures spread out like he was parting the Red Sea. He then quips "Charleton Heston, eat your heart out." Classic.

RDA was a sad loss to SG1 as well but at least his replacement(s) weren't so bad, actually had some character to them. Landry was just gruff and military, none of the charm that Hammond had.

@riffleraffle: Thanks for helping remind me of the character. For some reason I can't ever remember shit about that game. (And still too uncomfortable playing Max Payne 2 to finish).
But I gotta say, that is the single worst spoiler video I have ever seen. Within seconds of starting it reveals EVERY major plot reveal. Not in an indirect way either, not where an untrained eye would miss it. It literally spells out everything.
But if anyone who actually hasn't played the original sees it maybe they will just forget shit like I tend to. Max Payne makes me so uncomfortable I seem to block out my memories of it. The... well anyone whose palyed it knows what I mean, well those parts... Literally my worst nightmare. Platforming blindfolded AND UNIMAGINABLE HORRORS!!!!
I think I will INEVITABLY like watching the movie better than replaying the game assuming it is actually true to the game, which they seem to be trying to do. I just can't enjoy myself when I'm that uncomfortable despite the sad inability to blind myself to how awesome it is. I would NEVER continue putting myself through that shit for a subpar game.

They could make the movie Oscar worthy, and it wouldn't really matter, since the nimrods over at Fox would find reason to dumb the movie down to a mindless action flick in order to reach a broader audience.
Fox are a bunch of hacks.

Posted 7:56 PM 26/3/08
Is it too much to ask that somebody make a game-to-movie adaptation without feeling the need to change things around? Not that I want to see every scene from Max Payne, and especially not the wire-walking dream sequences (though maybe one confusing dream would be a pleasant nod to fans), but trying to tack on extraneous crap just annoys.

Yeah, I'm a little confused, as I've never seen anyone fawn over Beau Bridges. Jeff, sure - he's The Dude, after all, and he was Flynn in freaking TRON, so he deserves excitement when his name is mentioned. Beau? I mean, he's okay, a fine actor if he's got some good material to work with like any actor worth his salt, but I don't remember him being in anything particularly cool. Ever. He was in The Wizard, but I don't care what anyone says, that's not a cool movie, other than the character of Super Mario 3.

@Ex_EA_Slave: Except The Wizard.
Now this is for you Big Lebowski fans. The story got just a little more complex: Beau Bridges appeared in an episode of Branded, the majority of which was written by Arthur Digby Sellers, father of "little Larry" Sellers, the kid who allegedly stole The Dude's car. The Dude of course was Jeff Bridges.

People always talk about having a great cast, but a lot of great actors are in HORRIBLE movies. And piling great actors up in crap doesn't make it any less crap. Let's hope the director and producers know what they're doing, but considering the last nine years of film history, I doubt it!
