Condemned 2 Voice-Over Sessions
Posted by Mike Fahey at 3:20 AM on March 5, 2008
As a guy who dreams of one day doing work in the field of voice acting, clips like this always tickle me to no end. The video shows voice actors doing their thing with the characters of Condemned 2: Bloodshot, the sequel to Sega's psychological horror game. In a way I suppose it ruins the mystery - you never would have figured MadTV's Phil Lamarr as the voice of LeRue - but then the truest test of voice work is having it blend with the action so well that you don't picture these people in your head as you play.

That's awesome. I've always dreamed of being a voice actor.
But is it just me or does it seem like games have to throw in bad language now-a-days to try and appeal more to the teenage audience. Sometimes it's necessary, but Condemned, from what I remember, didn't need it at all.

the change of the main voice actor is stupid, to have continuity they should have stayed with the original one, it just feels like a show where they replaced the original actor with someone that looks like him or sounds like him but isn't.

Seeing as how the first game was so god damned amazing, I can't get enough of Condemned 2 media. Although some other people feared that the removal of Greg Grunberg for a more 'darker' Voice Actor would just translate to more F-Bombs seems to be coming true. Nevertheless I've had Bloodshot pre-ordered since it was first announced because I loved the first one so dearly. Here's hoping they dont fuck it up and that it doesn't go the way of Lost with more plot holes than answers.

@Hauler: you sir, i a god dammed liar and clearly have never seen Futurama.
Im sad thay cop from heroes isnt coming back to do the voice on this one. Now the main character is all EXTREME in this on and lame. I'll still play the shit out of this game though, as Condemned is one of my favorite (and first) forrays into survival horror and just a good game in general

@Mansteak: And Handy Smurf, too! Er...
Yeah, Phil LaMarr is using his Green Lantern voice for this game. He used a similar voice in Mercenaries.

LaMarr's work as the Green Lantern on the Justice League cartoons leads me to believe that he has only one voice for the angry and powerful sounding, yet cool black character in all types of media. However, his voice work in Futurama seems more natural for him, as he is a comedic driven actor, and he's more relaxed when not being made to scare the crap out of five year olds with his voice. But yeah it looks fun and demanding to be a voice actor.

They really need to get a better director, no wonder game VOs suck. I can tell these actors have potential but it's just being suppressed.

I first saw Phil LaMarr in Pulp Fiction. Then I heard him in Futurama. He is magnificent. And beeing a swedish voice-actor I honestly can tell you two things:
1. Phil has been a great source of inspiration for me.
2. You think it looks cool doing voice over sessions? Well, it's a looot of hard work, but it's fun as hell! :D

Still bummed Grunberg's out but this game is looking better and better. I should be able to play it, beat it, get the achievements, and be sick of it just about the time GTA IV comes out...

@photoboy:
They didn't feel Grunberg could deliver the dark performance they wanted for Ethan in this game. Condemned 2: Warrior Within!
Seriously though, the new guy doesn't sound all that dark either. It's been so long since I played the first one I doubt I'll even really notice the difference.

You mean Phil La Marr of Metal Gear Solid fame?
And, yes, to echo everyone else, Paul Eiding is the freaking man. Hearing this voice actors in different games is kind of a treat--lots of the MGS actors pop up in other games. Paul Eiding also played Stone in the first PSP Syphon Filter game, and Jennifer Hale (Naomi Hunter and Emma Emmerich from MGS) is in every game, ever.
And for (unrelated) bonus points, what actor appears in both Halo and Mass Effect, and as who?

Male voice 1 sounds like he's been doing this for awhile, good stuff.
Male voice 2 sounds pretty forced and suffers from Overacting.
Female voice was merly okay but she said very little so I couldnt decide from what was shown
Is this a good game? i never got around to playing it (the first one)

Maybe it's just because I'm seeing this out of context, but holy shit that's some bad voice acting. The voices are cheesy as hell and sound really forced. Then again maybe that's what they're going for I've never played the first game. Also, I don't know how you wouldn't know that that is Phil LaMarr. The guy can barely change his voice and all of his voice over work sounds pretty much the same.
