EA Need History, Geography Lessons
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 8:45 PM on March 6, 2008
I'm sure that EA did OK at school. But just OK. Sure, they passed stuff like sports and marketing with flying colours, but other subjects were more of a struggle. Like geography. And history. Above is the back of the box for a Central European version of Army of Two. Says to register at EA Support you must be 13 or older in Hungary and...Czechoslovakia. Which hasn't existed since, oh, New Years Eve 1992. Way to keep up with current events, EA!

You shouldn't be able to get water without carbonation. Rock on, Czechs.

@wisconsinista: Water without carbonation is usualy with blue colored bottle or label.
@badasscat: I hate reading Czechoslovakia in world media etc. We'll be always brothers with Slovakians but reffering as Czechoslovakia is annoying!!!

Czechoslovakians deserve the smack across the face. Try, just try to find water there without carbonation. For another good time grab a cab in Praha for a vegas priced ride for only 1.5 miles.

and btw, ask all those people in the Czech Republic and Slovakia how they like their countries referred to as "Czechoslovakia". You may as well call Canada Great Britain.

@meandering_drivel: Yeah, and those people are called "uneducated".
You shouldn't be referencing the Kellie Picklers of the world to support your argument. "I thought Europe was a country!" is not cute or funny. It's just dumb. So is thinking Czechoslovakia actually exists.
Are you planning a vacation in Transylvania, Yugoslavia or the Ottoman Empire any time soon? Better buy those tickets fast.

When I was born, it was "Czechoslovakia". That's good enough for me because then's the moment the world was perfected.

@lennyKravic:
Pretty impressive, in this country people think you're some sort of weirdo if you can speak a foreign language. I like what I've seen of the Czech Republic (Prague basically), I visit every so often because my wife was an exchange student there a few years ago and has friends still living there.
Sorry about the stag parties, by the way.

Man, one has to wonder how EA still has so much money, considering the marketing revenue that must be put into marketing to Czechoslovakia.
Seriously, do they also have warnings in various regions for Pripyat, Bodie, Centrailia and Hashima Island?

Other places would use "EA needs"
Theyre both correct.

@thedap: I've noticed it as well. Whenever the editors here refer to EA, they refer to them as plural or many (like "they"), instead of one company. It's bothersome to me too, is there a grammatical expert here that can clear this up for us?

The headline is grammatically incorrect. It should say: 'EA Needs History, Geography Lessons'. Am I the only one that notices this multiple times on this site?

@phicaluk: I think there is a lot of children in CZ which can read in english in 13 years. Usually in 13 they have about 3 years of english on elementary school and many of them have individual courses. And at least if you're gamer at 13, you must read in english, localization of games especially on consoles is about 3 titles a year (last year Pinata, Forza and PGR4), PC gaming is better there are more localized games

Would Czechs (and Slovaks, let's not forget the Slovaks here) under the age of 13 even be expected to be able to read video game instructions in English?
Here in the UK, our children can barely speak English so if our eastern European friends can manage this I'm impressed

Some people don't seem to understand when im attempting to be funny. I just tried to point out that 13+ is an odd age to sell a game thats generally regarded as 18+ everywhere else. Maybe eastern europe is just more mature than we are since they were once a part of mother russia.
