Eye of Judgment: Biolith Rebellion 2
Posted by Brian Crecente at 4:00 AM on March 25, 2008
The new Eye of Judgment card pack hits later this week, bringing 100 new spells and creature cards. Sony sent along this sample pack to me so I could check out a bit of the Biolith Rebellion 2 card set. SCEA tells me that a downloadable expansion pack from the store will bring new characters, animations and in-game rules to the game as well. The download also brings enhanced in-game heads-up displays that give players more information about creatures' status, abilities and protection.

I got EOJ two months ago and still trying to get myself a decent deck. I haven't played others online yet, just friends, because I'm afraid I'll get my ass handed to me.

@La Sepultura: new animations with the update, and rumored updated animations for existing cards.
I cannot wait for this to release...will be a day one purchaser.

I happen to enjoy the soundtrack and dont think its emo at all (dont sound like estrogen fueld punk to me).
anyhow, ive got a box of the second set of cards on the way and am still trying to finish off the few cards from set 1. Its a great game and i dont pay attention to the people complaining about it cos people on the internet complain waaaaaaaaay too much.

@enewtabie: Yes...sort of. You have a ranking in your Nation (you pick that when you go online), and you also have a ... military ranking as well for your nation as well. The more you win, the higher your rank goes. If keeps track of your wins and losses as well.
As far as how many times you've used X creature, no.

I bought this one fully planning on playing it to death, but the space constraints did much to dampen my enthusiasm for the game... unfortunately, my enthusiasm for collecting wasn't dampened, and I'm down to about 8 cards left for the full set. (Which means I could well get dragged into the second set too)

@La Sepultura: The new animations and such come included as part of the games upcoming patch. The patch will add the data to the hard drive for the new cards.
It's a card game, the point is to regularly release new cards every couple months. Theres another set tentatively planned for the summer.

@Witzbold: Some of the artwork is great, depends on which artist did the cards. Sadly they seem to use the crappier artist for the creature cards as they are all the same, while the event cards often have gorgeous artwork. Before the game was released they gave out promo cards with alternate artwork for the creatures and seriously, they were amazing looking in comparison to the versions they use for creatures now.
The spell effects/animations like the big hooded dude popping up can be turned off, helps speed up the game.

2 questions..... How is the animations for the new cards in the game? And if the answer is that it's already in the game, why weren't these cards out when the game was released?

@enewtabie: Play someone online? You can just create or join a room, it will automatically put you into an open game. Game is fairly popular and since its worldwide play theres lot of players always on. I've never once had to wait more than a few seconds to the system to find me a player or for one to join my room.
The game is a one on one game so it's quick to get into matches.

@slackjawed: Yeah seriously eh? :x
@Setzer IIDX: Dont need one. Never was one for caring too much bout sticking out anyways.
@Kyle81: I think you can turn it off, but then its even more boring without music. :x Granted I could play something else on my Itunes though. But man seriously its like they got some youtuben00b who adds emo rock to ANY video did the music for the game. :/ Really kills the mood.
Oh yes and mr hooded announcer for certian spells and such needs to go, that is just WAY too lame for my tastes. ;D
I hope the art has improved a little, since part of the TCG experience for me is having nice artwork on the cards themselves.

@daizyujin: You expect them to have expansion card sets done in time to include on the disc? Sorry thats not how card games work. They release the first set, they need to see it playtested by real worldwide play to create the 2nd set and so on and so on. Blu Ray has nothing to do with this game, and really blu ray offers nothing for EoJ, the game would work on a standard DVD and possibly CD.
Also you don't need to pay for the 2nd set expansion even if you still want to play ppl with it. It's not like normal DLC where you can only play others with the DLC or you can't play those with the DLC. The patch they are releasing allows those who don't even want set 2 to be able to play with those with the DLC, and it's free.
If anything, the cost of the update is likely to deter those who are pirating the cards. You don't pay for the cards, well you gotta pay something for the new set at least.

Yep, it's been delayed -- one of the reps said they actually don't know how long, although retail sites are saying April 11 or so: [blog.us.playstation.com]

As much as I enjoyed the original, the idea of having to purchase the expansion software in addition to the new cards is just a joke. This is dlc at its worse. Also, am I the only one that is a little tired of having to put all this dlc on my hdd when the advantage of blu-ray discs is that they have so much room? Considering the way most dlc is done I have a hard time believing the majority of this data wasn't already done by the time of the release.

@Milihpen:
That's precisely why I still love EOJ. As an ex-card addict without a regular group (or time for a regular game) I can find a decent match on-line 24/7.
Maybe I can only squeeze in one game a month, at 3am, on a Tuesday... but it's nice being able to have the option.

@Witzbold: Can you turn off or down the music? Never tried so wouldn't know... the music never bugged me... don't really remember it much either so it just sorta fades away on me.
@enewtabie: The download will be out first because its supposed to be a global launch.... just that Wizards of the Coast had a delay in card production so theres a couple week delay. But we still can get the update cause it allows one to play with those with set 2 cards already, since EoJ has global online play.

This game does look pretty good, i had forgotten it was even out. Really they should just push wizards of the coast to make a Magic game that works in pretty much the same way, then they'd have tons of people willing to spend stupid amounts of money on cards.

Honestly,I don't care about card games, but this looks very good.Sony was on gamespots video blog last week showing it off and it looks interesting. You get the download first, but then you have to get the cards a day later..but I thought I understood that it was delayed in NA a little bit?? I may be wrong.

@Witzbold: This is one game that would REALLY benefit from custom soundtracks. Altough I dont mind the game's soundtrack, some sessions go on for hours and being able to listen to your own thing would help.

I bought this thing a last month or so, still haven't played it...not a pickup and play type of game. I'd sell mine now without the eyetoy. Don't think I want to invest that much into a game...with all the cards and all.

Its pretty easy to get into. The deck that comes with the camera and game pack is really good. You can also buy 'theme' decks and get most of the cards, so you dont really have to buy alot of random card packs.
It is actually a decent CCG, not just gimicky. The realy problem is that you need a table with a lamp shining on the cards to make it work reliably.

One thing I really really REALLY wish is that they didnt put in the fucking shit rock sound track. Its just so irritating when playing a game. :x
Asides from that Im glad that a new set is finally comming out!

Yanno, this does look fun, but you have to buy packs as with any CCG, no?
To make a deck of any worth, that's a huge investment right there. I've dropped more into YuGiOh than I have any right admitting to...
Plus, how many people play this online? Relatively easy to get into a game or not?

@TC: playing online and getting your ass handed to you is how you learn new strategies and which cards go well with one another. A couple of great EOJ resources:
lbshooters.com - great website, EOJ Tournaments, and Leagues. I haven't met one jerk playing games through lbshooters
blackcubic.com - individual card reviews and profiles. Lots of great info on strategy.
