If anyone else brought out a game like that, it would have to be phenomenally different (re: comes with sex-bot preorder) to not get compared to Resistence, or at the very least, to not be called a 'rehash of been there done that'.

Just like how nobody can make zombie survival horrors but capcom now. Otherwise your game gets ignored as a 'like Resident Evil'. Dead Rising was... something else. But still Capcom.

I dont understand why Resistance: Fall of Man was even made, when they could have just asked Harry Turtledove for the rights to the Worldwar series and done those instead.

Think funny looking little lizard men who hit earth with a small fleet of warships during wwii, expecting an easy takeover because the last recon photos of earth showed knights in suits of armor and the lizard people didn't even fathom that a race could evolve so quickly, because they did not. They also find Ginger to be a narcotic to them, the jews help them fight the nazis, some of the lizards give up on fighting because it sucks, etc.

Good books, they are. I'd love to see a game, but I think Resistance pretty much kills off the alternate history world war II genre.

I suspected it before but this kind of confirms it: Resistance 2 is trying really hard to out-do Halo 3 in every way it can. 1000 Multi-player games. 80 player co-op campaigns and a 10-player single player campaign. Dedicated server with 50ns ping times and 16x Multi-sampling Anti-aliasing. This all in 1600p down-sampled to 1080p. Now they done thrown in a cat skull instead of a helmet for a low price of $3000. How the hell do you compete with that?!!!

@Komrade_Kayce: It's kinda ironic that you're talking about rehashes in the context of Resistance. Let's see... it's got WWII and aliens. Never seen that before in an FPS. Sure, now they're available together in one game, but it's like the boxes of Nerds that are just two different flavors mixed in. You end up dumping the whole box in your mouth at once, and they still taste like Nerds.

The bread and butter of most game companies is rehashes of established game genres and settings. For every original game, there's ten "just like XXXX" games released. And come on, survival horror is still alive and kicking--just ask Escape from Bug Island ;)

In regards to making a mold and selling copies:

First, making a silicone RTV mold is expensive, and you can only use it so many times before it degrades and you have to make a new one.

Second, resin isn't cheap either, and you would also be dealing with bubbles in the mix, shrinkage, all that sort of thing so you would be expecting to get maybe five to six usable kits out of ten castings.

Third, and most important, you would be making copies of copyrighted material. There's no way you would be able to recoup your original investment of original skull, silicone, resin, and that most valuable of resources, time before you would get a cease and desist order.
