GT5 Prologue Hits Euro PS Store, All Is Well
Posted by Mike Fahey at 3:20 AM on March 29, 2008
Sony has apparently overcome yesterday's technical difficulties in Europe, and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is now available for purchase. The company apologised for any inconvenience to all of the friendly Europeans who were unable to drive shiny cars around yesterday.
"We would like to apologise for the lack of a PS Store refresh yesterday," Sony said. "As previously mentioned, we unfortunately experienced some last minute technical difficulties and were unable to publish the new content as planned."GT5P is joined by the UEFA Euro 2008 demo, Unreal Tournament 3 and Turok map packs, and the Eye of Judgment Bio Rebellion card set. We now return you to your previously scheduled download.

You won't lose your deposit, they have to give it back or apply it to another preorder.

I got my shiny copy nice and early this morning from www.game.co.uk and at £19.99 a much better offer than the PSN version.
@johnnylineup: no benefit at all... you will be paying even more that if you get the US version from the PSN as the exchange rate from $ = £ favours the UK in buying power of $'s - put simply its cheaper to buy it from anywhere bar the UK PSN lol

@johnnylineup: Exclusive songs, I *think* like 3 extra cars, etc, nothing big really. Anyways, I'll just wait for the US release. I don't want to have to hassle with any future updating problems or online issues with an import copy (or from the Euro store).
I did check out the UEFA demo, and, it was pretty cool. I always liked football, and to me, most football games play pretty well, and this one wasn't any different. (Coming from somebody who HARDLY plays sports games, so, try it yourself)
Still, I feel a hole in my heart where GT5P SHOULD be.

My first ever time playing a GT game and my initial impressions are: this thing sucks ass. And not in a good way either!
I KNOW I'll have to spend a wee bit more time with it but I have no desire to pick that joypad up again.
The graphics arent THAT good. PGR4 looks way better in my opinion. And is more fun.
Anyone know when the fuck Wipeout HD is out btw?

@Basscadet: Dude, Gran Turismo 4 has better graphics than PGR4, and that's on the PS2.
This stinks of the old "Forza looks better than GT4 because it's at 480p!" BS. Forza 1 and 2 look like ass, no matter what resolution they're running at. GT4 was the best looking racer up until GT5 and that's not even an arguable fact. Sometimes good graphics mean more than just pixel count, you know. How about, ridiculously perfect-looking cars? And ludicrously accurate tracks? Huh?
For the record I'm a huge fan of both Forza games and GT4, and I own PGR3 and 4, as well as more arcadey games like Burnout etc. I'm also a huge fan of Mario Kart.

@dowingba:
Guys, I honestly wasnt flaming/trolling with my earlier comment. I was being serious.
I'm really not feeling GT5 SO FAR.
The replays are amazing but im not moved at all by the graphics. And yes im aware that a good game is much much more than pretty graphics, but I just cant get into it as much as I thought I would/wanted to SO FAR.
Ive heard so many good things re GT over the years so maybe my expectations were sky high, and i know that its a different type of racer compared to PGR4 but the fact remains that I prefer PGR4.
Thats not trolling or flaming or fanboyism or whatever, it's just an opinion.
And it wouldnt do for us all to be the same now, would it?
Heres hoping more time with the game will change my mind.

@Basscadet: get a racing wheel, the game is a driving simulator, it blows choads on a joypad. GT is for the ... more serious racing game player.

The things that annoyed me with this game was that you could not see replays of races you do in splitscreen.
Also, because the framerate is a bit lower in splitscreen, you don't get a good feeling of speed (it's better playing alone).
Otherwise it was a pretty cool game.. not the best I've played, not the worst.
Awesome graphics (except the lack of Antialiasing).
Haven't played that much yet though.. (first time I play a GT game)

@cybereal: no it's not... it's an advanced arcade racer... no damage and arcade gameplay: bumping cars to pass them or slow down before corner... in 2-3 laps, you don't really have the choice if you want to win... if you want real simulator, GO PC: GP legend, RBR, GTR, LFS or Rfactor... all them 1000 time better if you compare the physics engine and not just the shiny graphics: the truth is that a casual GT player probably won't finish a single lap on a serious PC simulator if they drive like in GT !

@Dude27: Thank Jebus someone finally said it. While I love me some GT, I'm getting sick of the uneducated always saying how it's the most realistic racing series. Granted, most who would argue that only game on consoles, but that still doesn't make it true.
Try some of the latest PC titles, then try to back up that 'real driving simulator' nonsense. I'm still looking forward to GT5 since I don't have the funds to upgrade my PC ;-). Not interested in the 'demo' though.

£24.99 for a fucking demo???? And I thought Xbox Live's Marketplace was excessively expensive when it charges you for extra in game content! At least it's demos are free.
Methinks Sony can kiss my ass on this one. If it was a couple of quid (say £3.99) then MAYBE I'd grab it, but to make it more expensive than Warhawk which was a full game???
I wonder how many retards will buy this crap.

Junganawt... it's more like a mini-game that a demo. It's somewhere between full game and demo. I think it's worth $20 bucks american, whatever that comes to in quid.

@KID-A26:
$20 american is £10. This "mini-game", as you call it, costs $50 from a the PSN Store, or $40 elsewhere (Amazon have it listed as $39.99). Is it really worth paying that kind of price for?
I could understand it if after buying GT5 Prologue you got a discount on GT5 similar to shareware, but paying $40 for a heavily cut down version of a $50/$60 game? Rip Off City.
And, I think this PR statement about the game says it all:
"Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) and Polyphony Digital are pleased to announce Gran Turismo5 Prologue, a prequel title showcasing the forthcoming Gran Turismo5 for PLAYSTATION3 (PS3)".
Sounds like a frickin' $40 demo to me!

Not worth it in the long run. Food for thought: Once the full release of GT5 is out, with the complete set of cars (possible damage modelling), full game and what not, this 'demo' is going to be worth next to nothing as a trade in or pre-owned.

People who say its a demo clearly haven't played demos or haven't played GT5P
There is a shit tonn of stuff in here to last well, a few months.
Online as well, how many demos do SP and MP in one?
How many demos only give you single digit amount of cars.
I bought it, but thats cause I love GT. 24.99 is too much though, considering gameplay.co.uk sell it for 17.99 and its a DISK!

@Juganawt: I suggest you try the game before judging it's value...
I bought the bluray version and am very happy with it :) over 70 cars and six tracks that also have variations. (short and long versions) Lots of events and things to unlock on your way to 100%... graphics are the best ever in a racing game, there is absolutely no contest and nothing comes close.
It's basically GT lite, and for a GT fan it is very much worth the money.
Oh and the F1 car looks insane, I just need to spend 10 hours unlocking it :(
