GTA IV Street Map Leaked
Posted by Mike Fahey at 3:20 AM on March 27, 2008
This is exactly why we can't have nice release dates. A webshots user named pallamallawa has uploaded six images of what look to be the map insert for the PlayStation 3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV. Images include the city itself, complete with descriptions of various locales, the Liberty City subway map, and the controller map for the PS3. It's about as New York as you can get without actually being in New York. Everything looks rather official, though I'm going to go ahead and rumour tag this pending some sort of official confirmation. It's not that we don't trust the internet, it's just...okay, we don't trust the internet.

@Mike Fahey: It's the same in Oregon. You are not legally allowed to pump your own gas. This is because there are very little jobs in Oregon, so they make gas stations hire "pumpers" so that people can be employed.

Algonquin probably refers to the famous hotel in Manhattan by the same name. Home of the "Algonquin Round Table" where noted authors and intellectuals would meet, in the 20's I believe. Maybe they still do, I'm not sure.

(unless of course the paper it is printed on can bend dimensions and display a 3rd side, or, even better - upon completing this and the next 100 GTA games you place the map edges side by side to give a big GTA image (a la Mr Men books!))

@Recury: Fine, it didn't always hit, but nonetheless, nearly all of GTA III had a toungue-in-cheek aspect to it that has slowly been drained out of each further release. If it's gone, then this is just more locker-room rape gaming. Sorry. The best part of GTA is that unlike other similar games, it doesn't take itself too seriously. I fear this one might, and therefore be a fail.

I was pumping gas down here in NC last month and an elderly woman asked me if I could pump her gas. I immediately thought she meant "pay for" but she literally meant that she'd pay and I pump -- she was a long-term NJ resident that drove out of state for the first time to visit her granddaughter in NC (yeah, we have a lot of transplants -- and had no idea how to do it.
I figured that was alright, since I do my darnedest not to stop in Jersey for gas because I feel very uncomfortable having someone else do my job.

I find the best way to get a good measure of the map is to check out how big the airport is, in which case it's a pretty large area by the looks of it.
I for one am relieved it's not as big as San Andreas. Despite how much I liked jacking a truck and driving around to country music, there was so much dead space it wasn't funny. More focus on deeper urban environments ftw.
Also, Tony Soprano's house better be in Alderney as an easter-egg.

Why do people find it so hard to believe that GameStop employees have been playing the actual fucking game for weeks now? I know at least 4 spots where its almost always being played

@mowh: No sh*t? Do you think that you could perhaps take a few shots of the HUD and email me?
About the "can't pump your own gas", that's just stupid. I know I wouldn't want some punk pumping my gas.

mowh, You say Gamestop employees have been playing it for weeks. I say you are full of garbage. Why would you bother to lie about something like that, in the annonymous stupidity that is the internet, what could you possibly have to gain from something like that?

The font on the small text looks aggressively fake, as much as I'd like to believe it to be true.

Some new stuff today on IGN about the multi-player. Apparently the characters will be totally customizable during online play.
Also, the last Roy Rogers' that was open in Illinois was considered a delicacy. Is it really considered that bad out there?
