Hail to the Chimp Info Dump
Posted by Brian Crecente at 8:20 AM on March 14, 2008
Due out in May, Hail to the Chimp is being pitched by Wideload pants as a button-mashing fighter with a political slant. In the game up to four player can fight to try and become the king of the animals. Players can choose between ten animals and the game also includes a selection of "diversions" like stuff the ballot box and fund racer. SSBB meets Mario Party?

The Simpsons thing may be the case. But really, it is only half a word off from the popular song/expression/show of "Hail to the Chief," as well as the many pop culture references to it. Be a little more learned* folks!
* Pepe: Oh, Papa Homer, you are so learned.
Homer: Learned, son. It's pronounced learned.

"Mr. President this tax reform is full of nothing but partisan diatribe and-"
*chimp attacks him*
"Stop it, Mr. President! AHHHH!"
Homer: Heh heh, that's what you get for not hailing to the Chimp!

They hired writers from The Onion and The Daily Show to work on this game...
Take that for what you will.

Does nobody actually go to the source of the video??? There's tons of gameplay out there. Yes, it's similar to Power Stone.

This is NOT a Jason Jones project. He is still with Bungie. This is an Alex Seropian game.
This game wont make it as a full price title $60+tax, There's just no way. There's no brand or license to power it.
Gamecock if your listening push this through marketplace for $10.

If it's a fighting game heavy on the environmental weapons the same way Power Stone did... this game could be a sweet $10 XBLA title...

SO Jason Jones, creator of Halo, is the founder of Wideload. Plus, they're based in Chicago so I love them for being local...
...but it looks like a mess.
I can't imagine who this is for. The politics are going to be lost on kids, the cartoons are going to turn off adults, and the action is like Powerstone meets Smash meets cocaine. I bet it plays better then it looks, but I have to say I'm disappointed by this video.

The overall design is way too busy IMHO. The kid in me wants to break down into an epileptic seizure from all the color mashing. The adult in me wants to point and laugh at the seizuring kid in me.

Can anyone explain to me how or why a Jellyfish or an Octupus would become King of the Jungle? What kind of fudged up jungles are we talking about? I know this is just a game but seriously...

Meh, I rather play tetris in the cat's litter box.

My, the negativity... That's what you get for not hailing to the chimp!
... Yeah, I can't help but make the Simpson connection, either.

Why do I feel like I would become seasick after playing this game?

what a pile of crap.
i believe in the gamecock idea, but the shit they've been shovelling is embarassing. give me EA-criterion, Microsoft-Bungie, Sony-psygnosis any day... even though i'm feeding the corporate beast with my money at least i get a good game out the end.

it kinda looks like they took a 'me too' smash-style funny animal fighter, and tacked on a political slant at the end to make it interesting.

The 360 box thumbnails, and the 360 box on the right appear to have the colors reversed. Sorry, gotta do this...

I'm kind of digging the art style, and someone needs to swoop in and make a new Power Stone esque multi-brawler; lord knows Capcom won't be making another one anytime soon. Eventhough it would rock with psn and live support. Still don't understand why collection was only released on PSP...

Please tell me I'm not the only person who thinks of Homer going to see "Hail to the Chimp" on The Simpsons when they see this game. It's the EXACT same title.

Slightly off-topic, but is it the best of ideas to put the words "Chimp" and "Dump" so close together?
Nothing good will come of it, I assure you.

I was thinking Power Stone more than SSBB.
Anyway, nice production values with the studio talking head and humorous news ticker. No clue if the game itself is good but at least demos are free!

@Moonshadow101: I could have sworn this is a XBLA game. Havent heard any different. Either way I think Wideload did well with Stubbs the Zombie but they barely dodged a bullet. Seems it finally has caught up with them though. This game is going to take it in the @**

Um, ok. You really can't get any sort of idea what the game plays like from that video but it kinda looks like Power Stone in a way.

Interested...
Interested...
Remembering that this is not an XBLA game and is, in fact, a retail product...
Laughing...
Crying...
No longer interested.
