Here's 64 Screenshots Of Okami On Wii
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 2:40 PM on March 18, 2008
Yeah, 64. I know, 6-12 is the norm, but hey, it's Okami, it's St Patrick's Day, it's time to get a little crazy. While they won't settle the issue of whether the added waggle is a pro or a con, they at least settle something: unless you're cheating and playing it upscaled on a PS3, this will be better-looking than the PS2 version.

Would rather pay $20 or so for the PS2 version than pay $40 for a direct port with "nifty" controls.

Well, beautiful upscaling ONLY if you own a 20Gb or 60Gb PS3. The rest either don't do it or suck at it.

I wish Clover was still around. I LOVED Okami on my PS2, and it was beautiful. If you want to play it and haven't your PS2/PS3 needs some love. I am not sure why they didn't just advertise this game effectively in the first place, instead of letting it go unnoticed and then spending the money to port on the Wii...you know instead of the 100+ MILLION potential PS2 owners.
I do not want the Wiimote in this game, it is not needed. I actually see flailing my arms in the air during every combat and every time you need to use the Celestial Brush powers to become quite bothersome.
Capcom, you know what you need to do. Get Clover back together and make a sequel. Then you get my monies (again).

@peAr_nectAr: Okay, but this isn't a Nintendo game - why would Nintendo advertise it?
If you're suggesting that Capcom should arrange some co-promotion with Nintendo then yes sure. Otherwise, I hope Capcom promote it on their own accord...

It's a shame that gamers are a lot like hipsters... Latch onto whatever's cool without actually investing any loyalty to anything except that which is tried and true.
Maybe after, and only after Suda51 makes ONE MORE GAME will people actually start showing loyalty, instead of saying some games are awesome, but not actually playing them.
Just agree with the croud, eh?
For the record, I played this game, and loved it, even if it was a bit too long for me. I haven't finished it.

@Toolio: I give this man a thumbs up just for stating his opinion clearly and without resorting to the usual "Okami sux Zelda FTW" type of online douchery.
I absolutely love Okami, but one of the reasons I think it became so popular is because of how poorly it sold. That's why it's cool to other nerds when you bash uber popular franchises like Halo and a cardinal sin to do the same to "arty" games.

@Toolio: For what its worth, i appreciate your honesty. I always like to hear the full spectrum of opinions on games before i get them, not just the gushingly positive ones. I actually try to look for the negative reviews first to see what wasn't liked before looking to the positive ones to refute those criticisms. There hasn't been one game i've played yet where i think it is impossible to dislike. Sure to a certain extent there can be an undeniable appreciation for the workmanship or concept behind a quality produced game, but i really dont think there exists a game where the experience is impossible to be underwhelmed by. Zelda tp for example was reviewed great across the board, not to mention that whole "8.9?! You're fucking retarded!!" uproar, but i really found that game to be quite lacking and kind of a disappointment really. I can appreciate the effort put into it, and overall i did enjoy the experience, but i wouldn't call it a "great" game by any stretch. As long as you justify your stance with reason, and not just "it sux" trolling, an honest opinion regardless of pro/con is always welcome imo.

@romBox: I can see the appeal of having everything sharp and crisp, but I liked the rice paper effect. It made all the painting seem really genuine, because since rice paper is really absorbant, the ink sinks through and 'bleeds' into the paper a bit. So, while some people say the edges are a bit fuzzy, well . . . a real brush painting will have fuzzy edges too. I appreciated that bit of detail.
I still won't buy it (mostly because there's just not enough of a difference in it to make me pay for the game again), but I can see why people who have widescreen would want to play the game without stretching. And the waggle seems to appeal to everyone with a Wii.

Thorax
Posted 11:08 PM 19/3/08
@Byakko: Exactly. The aged paper effect added so much to the game, in my opinion. I get blown away by little details like that, like the grain filter in Silent Hill. Yes, I am amazed by extremely small things....no homo.

The story, the in-game brush? Dude, you are complaining about the concept of the game. If you didn't like the concerpt, then why did you buy it? It's like buying Mass Effect, then saying "I really don't like that the game forces you to make chocies, I think it's a big fault." You should complain about it's execution, not the fact that it is what it is.

I love how people think that the game is suddenly going to sell like hotcake just because it's on the Wii. The added widescreen support along with Wii controls aren't going to sell the game (though they're welcoming factors). If anything, they'll just help to make the experience more accessable to Wii players. So expect similar sales to that of the PS2 original, if not possibly worse.

I know that saying this is going to get me nailed to the wall and set on fire, so let me preface this by stating that my intent is not to troll, start a flame war, or hurt anybody's feelings. It is solely my opinion and as such, should make little difference to anyone's life but my own.
I hated Okami. Boy, did I ever.
From the interminable opening movie that forced me to click along with every line of inane backstory, to the hair-tearingly irritating pestilence of a sidekick, to the can-you-draw-a-circle-with-a-line-through-it-while-the-game-is-paused "combat" system, to the general Zelda-lite quality of the experience as a whole.
Don't get me wrong - I tried to like the game. I really did.
And I'm all for it when games show originality and try something different. I wish more games did just that.
I don't even know why I'm speaking up about this now. And here, of all places.
I feel like I'm standing in the Vatican while holding a sign that reads, "Jesus was a dick."
Maybe I just couldn't take it any more, and I finally snapped. It was bound to happen, really.
Everybody loves Okami. Everybody's always talking about how much they love Okami, and how many extra copies they plan to buy to do their bit for the team. It drives me bananas.
Before I am reminded countless times, I will enthusiastically concede that Okami is very, very pretty to look at.
Black, Lair, and many other mediocre / lousy games were also very pretty. Fat lot of good it ended up doing them.
I really do want to apologize. As I said before, I don't want to start any wars or hurt anybody's feelings.
I guess it just drives me crazy that sometimes certain games are given divine status and are blindly treated as if they have no faults whatsoever.
Actually, I didn't even really like Psychonauts either.
Oh, look - a stake.
I'll just tie myself to it while you all get those torches lit.

Like the "no filter" style, the cutscene skipping might just be for demos and screenshots.
I can't remember them officially saying for sure that that would be in it.

Yes I know it's a "rice paper filter" and that it is very artistic...It's just that if I was given the option, I would turn it off.
Mass Effect is a good example of that. After turning off the "Film Grain" filter I saw just how vibrant and sharp everything looked. I couldn't stand putting that filter back.
I wish I could do the same with Okami. It would take my breath away to see it without looking like it was drawn on wet paper. :(

@Ichidou: Gameplay depends on the colours and setting for whether you can see much of a difference, but theres a definite improvement in text and especially cutscenes.
Then again, I'd trade all that in a heartbeat for the Wii's ability to skip cutscenes.

upscaling on PS3 does make a difference, progressive is always better than the normal 480i interlace. But the wii has a true widescreen support so that makes its better than just upscaling.

That's the rice paper filter; I know they shut it off for the demos before, but I thought they said they were still adding it into the final game.
Personally, I prefer it. Sure, the colors are muted, but that's the point. It's suppose to be like painting on a rice paper canvas.

Cheating by playing it on the PS3 upscaled?
WAAAAAIT. HOLD UP.
See, I HAVE Okami. I played it for about ten minutes and stopped. When I heard that there was going to be a Wii version with widescreen support, better painting mechanics and improved graphics, I was convinced I'd buy that instead.
So my question is whether upscaling on PS3 makes really that much of a difference? Because if so, I've lost a third of the reason I want to buy the game again.
(Oh, and to avoid any mild confusion, yes, I own a PS3.)

For the love of God people...buy this game! I bought 25 copies (granted it was for my game-selling business, but still I was doing my part to spread the love) and it still didn't sell well by Capcom's standards. Let's prove once and for all to Clover (well the group formerly known as Clover) that their masterpiece of a game was well taken by the gaming world and not just reviewers that received free evaluation copies.
Oh and goldwings, the graphics themselves don't look far too different but I believe it's going to be full 480p with true widescreen which the PS2 didn't have. That alone, along with Wii controls for brush strokes and the possibility of added content, makes it a must-buy in my book. I sold my PS2 version a while back when I heard this was coming to the Wii and just this week I saw the dummy cases in Gamestop and got really excited =) I just wish there was a pre-order bonus like an artbook or something.
