@MCWHAMMER: Sorry. If the picture was given to Kotaku at that size, why should they resize it? As far as I know, images only get resized when they're huge, like in-game screenshots, and even then, you're given the option of viewing different resolutions.

The screenshot is legit, i was at a friends house not to long ago after posting this and went into the store on his console and the store looked like the screenshot above. I will try to get pictures tomorrow when i come from work but i remember what i saw and it looked similar to that. At first i thought it was an HDTV exclusive cause when i got home my store did not look like his. Again i will try to get pictures tomorrow to back this up.

Like the article points out it's PLAYSTATION not Playstation.

The other super obvious I-did-this-in-Photoshop is all the friggin' drop shadows behind everything. There's a drop shadow behind the PSN logo, drop shadows behind the lettering and then they finish it off by doing the Apple-like reflection on the side icons. Also, "Go to Movie Store". Really? "The Movie Store". While there's little doubt Sony will be introducing downloadable movies and TV shows I doubt they'll call it The Movie Store.

Again, it speaks to the branding of things. Having the Movie Store and the PSP Store would almost indicate that it's possible to totally separate the PS3 content from the movie content from the PSP content. While I can only guess I would like to think that Sony will categorize the content appropriately but stay away from labeling the categories as their own separate stores.

To those claiming this is a fake:

While there's no definite answer as to whether or not this is legit, you can't rule it out based on the Haze/Echochrome/etc typos.

I work as a designer in the interactive industry, my agency's worked on a lot of high profile projects (in the same vein as the PS store redesign), and I've never seen one go out the door with 100% correct assets.

The things you're pointing out could very well be FPO (for placement only) assets, the sort of thing that'll get switched out once they prepare it for the final launch. The designers who put this together probably grabbed the assets from the very pages you're referencing at IGN.

So it might be fake, but it's not fake for the reasons you're citing.

The big giveaway for me that it is a fake: PlayStation should have a capital "S". It has on the game boxes, manuals, official mag... everywhere there is PlayStation, it has a big "S". Not so here.

Of course, that could be done just so they can claim plausible deniability if screens like this are leaked. But I doubt it because this does look a bit shite, although not quite as shite as the current store...

@g1g010: If you think so, have you seen what we have now? This is an improvement, actually. What should be done, however, is the store's GUI is downloaded to the PS3 immediately on signing on, so there are no load times. That would be an immediate improvement, and it should be XMB based rather than simple HTML, which it is now.

Even if it *was* official, its still no good. The problem with the store as it is now is that its almost completely freaking impossible too find what you're looking for.
They give you these subsections, that are only partial subsections. For example (this might be a bit off as I don't have my PS3 handy), if you go into the games section, it doesn't list the games by categories right off the bat. The icons for that are on like page four, with three pages of 'check this out' content. God forbid you want to download a theme that isn't on the front page, good luck finding it half the time.

I have no problem with 'featured content', but the PS store wants to have *ALL* of their content featured. At that point there is no need for it at all.

Then there is after you put an item in your cart. You can't just add it and keep looking, they break the flow, take you to a cart page, then once you've confirmed you want it, they take you back to the main page again, not to where you were last. Hence forcing you go try and navigate this perverbial maze again to get the next thing you wanted. I do like that they make you buy everything in one go, because that with the actual dollar amount lets you realize that maybe you don't want to spend that much money all at once.

While I'm on my rant, get rid of the damn mouse pointer. I know you want to give freedom, but trying to navigate a mouse pointer with a game controller is damn near impossible. Give it a logical layout so that you can use the simple dpad to get where you want to go.

But really, their 'store' would be laughed at even 5 years ago when buying stuff on the internet was less streamlined.

I love my PS3, and have purchesed maybe $50 worth of content from the store (rock band mostly), but everytime I have to go into that store a little piece of me dies inside.

@TheIrishNinja: The 360 marketplace is much faster and you don't have to click on things then wonder if they are reacting. There are times in the PSN store that you click to back up and it just centers the little arrow on the box you're clicking. It seems small but it's really annoying when trying to download a few things and do it quickly. However when MS reorganized the dashboard w/the last update it became a bit slower. Hopefully the PSN store doesn't slow down even further, b/c if it's any slower it's going to feel like I went back in time to the 90's to use AOL dial up on the thing.

Too many interaction issues, inconsistencies, and flaws. Possibly an early mockup, but this isn't a screenshot. I mean, come on... every single region has a completely different set of style guidelines. I find it hard to believe Sony would flub the version they're actually spending time on this badly. Clearly the artist has some ability with PhotoShop, but the finesse and polish just isn't there on an interaction and corporate brand level. Hell, even a number of the textual elements are just kinda random on simple things like alignment.

Not that the current store isn't flawed too... but this is not the real deal.

Im willing to bet that when the new interface comes around next month that it will be a shadow of its current self. Will it be good? Probably not. Will it be better? There is no way that this is a real store design. The old store is designed to fit both standard definition and high definition TVs. Just look at the following screen shots and you will see how the old one is made to fit, and the new one would crop important elements.

I'd be happy with a working text-based tree...

Have a heading for each category, PS3 games, PS3 demos, PSP demos, PSX games, Themes, etc... all visible on one page. Then when you click the link - a list of ALL items in that category.

Pretty easy really. None of the multi-page icon views and digging for categories on page 3. Just a simple site map.

It's obviously not. The photoshopper made one minor mistake. On the bottom row, the HAZE theme was a custom made theme, not an official Sony theme. So thats a big no for that. Rumor debunked.
