It's Virtual Console Import Week!
Posted by Mike Fahey at 2:40 AM on March 11, 2008
After last week's lonely offering of Super Turrican, Nintendo kicks things up a notch this week by bringing us not one but two Japanese imports in this week's Virtual Console update! Don't worried about being puzzled by bizarre gameplay mechanics though, as both of today's games DoReMi Fantasy: Milon's DokiDoki Adventure (900 Wii points) is the Super Famicon sequel to Hudson's Milon's Secret Castle, in which Milon endeavors to rescue the fairy Alis and the music of the forest from the evil wizard Amon, armed only with a gun that shoots bubbles. The second game is Puyo Puyo 2: Tsuu for the Sega Genesis (900 Wii points), which is basically Puyo Pop - or Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, or Kirby's Avalanche, depending on which reference tickles your fancy. Tsuu is one of the most highly regarded games in the series, and has only seen U.S. release previously on the Neo Geo Pocket Color of all things. There you have it - a couple of nifty old games you've probably not played before, and Super Turrican doesn't have to be lonely anymore. Everybody wins!
Wii-kly Update: Two New Classic Games Added to Wii Shop ChannelGot enough challenge in your daily routine? Chances are that basic everyday tasks - getting to work or school on time, walking the dog, taking out the trash - aren't enough to keep you firing on all cylinders. Luckily, Virtual Console(TM) is close at hand to help you test your mettle in fresh and unusual ways. Whether you're rescuing a kidnapped pal or mastering a set of mind-bending grid puzzles, this week's new arrivals, imported from Japan,
offer a refreshing break from the late-winter blahs.Nintendo adds new games to the Wii(TM) Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points(TM) to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:
DoReMi Fantasy: Milon's DokiDoki Adventure (Super NES(R), 1 player, Rated E for Everyone - Alcohol Reference and Comic Mischief, 900 Wii Points): This is an action game where an energetic boy named Milon sets off on a great
adventure in a cute fairy-tale world. Piccolo is a village in the country of Fantasia. One day, they hear from the fairy Alis that songs and music have disappeared from the forest. Suddenly, the wizard Amon appears, grabs Alis and
vanishes with her. The brave Milon must now go on a journey to rescue his kidnapped friend, with his bubble shooter as his only weapon. Along the way, he'll need to retrieve five legendary instruments and stars by defeating Amon's minions. Get ready to enjoy the fun and comical action of this charming game.Puyo Puyo 2: Tsuu (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 900 Wii Points): The object of this head-to-head puzzle game is to clear your grid of falling patterns called puyos by forming chains of four or more same-colored puyos in a straight line or one of several geometric patterns. What makes this a challenging two-player contest is the fact that when you clear a chain of puyos from your grid, it drops a random piece of filler onto your opponent's grid. The more puyos you clear, the more you fill your opponent's grid, and if you can clutter up his grid enough to fill it to the top, you've won the game. An intriguing backstory makes this an amusing experience for one or two players.

I don't think it would have made sense to release the original smash on the same week as the new one but maybe a few weeks before.

That's EASTMAN and Laird, damn it.

@skullivan: Thing is it's far, far easier for Konmai to work out it's issues with Eastland and Laird then it is for Capcom and Disney. Also note that re-releasing Ducktales for VC would not make Capcom enough money for them to bother.

There's an English patch for the Milon game. It's a sequel to Milon's Secret Castle on NES for those who didn't realize it. Sorry that this doesn't help VC people. There's not really much plot anyhow.
I've heard Earthbound may have copyright issues with some of the rock music. There may be some riffs that resemble some classic rock tunes. Not sure if this is the case, but it is Nintendo is probably playing it safe by not releasing it.

I downloaded the Milon game. It's all in Japanese. Be nice to know what exactly is going on in the game...

Damn, I saw Milon on the ESRB page last week but I didn't expect to see it appear so quickly on the VC.
@Foxstar Sixtail:
I would have thought the same thing only Konami was still able to release their TMNT games despite not having the license. They may have to charge 600 points for the game to cover the extra licensing fee but I'm sure it'll come out at some point (as well as Rescue Rangers). It's not like those licenses are bringing any money in for Disney right now.

Hope it comes out in Europe!
DoReMi Fantasy is a gem, not very know among us mainly because it was never released in the west. Hope this helps to get its deserved status as one of SNES best non-first party platformers.
Well done, Hudson.

Stop whining for Earthbound and get DoReMi Fantasy! It's an excellent platform game and not a particularly common cart. Bringing this to US VC was a fantastic move! Check it out.
p.s. Hagane got ESRB rated the month the Wii came out. We still don't have Hagane. Everybody's waiting for something, but in the meantime there's plenty of good stuff to play.

I read the titles of the game and I automatically thought "Ojamajo Doremi". Naturally, I was disappointed. Must get more Wii Points for more games.

are Japanese VC games on US console = Japanese text or did they take the time to translate it?

So, supposing these games are translated (the logical thing) and virtual console supports SNES mouse via the Wiimote (not so logical nerd wet dream)...
How long do we have to wait for WONDER PROJECT J? And how long until someone realizes that's the perfect DS / Wii remake everyone would buy into? Damn, they copied the fairy control for Twiilight Princess. Put her to better use!

Just bring over Pulseman already, damn it. It's been on Japanese VC since the Wii's release... sigh. I guess my days of playing it on the Sega Channel will be my only times spent with it.

@NoFunShogun: Square Enix already said they aren't gonna do much, if anything for VC. If your waiting for Chrono Trigger, your going to be waiting forever. It's not up to Nintendo when CT is done.
@tralfaz23:You do know DuckTales is in copyright hell, right? It's a Disney trademark and i'm sure any agreement between Capcom and Disney for the game vanished 10+ years ago.
In before countless other people asking for games that are stuck in copyright hell to come to VC.

I already import to get my Puyo Puyo fixes, but that doesn't mean English versions would be unwelcome.
First VC game BUYdt!
(Though Mother [Mother 3 is awesome and deserves to be exposed to a larger audience] and Fire Emblem games are still totally at the top of my list of desires)

And Chrono Trigger, for that matter! And Super Mario RPG? There are so many great games out there that people are squirming for, but they've been releasing mostly meh titles for the past couple of months or so.

@Mokona: Seriously, this is _the_ week to bring out the N64 Smash Bros. It blows my mind that they didn't.
That said, I echo the cries to bring Mother/Earthbound to VC.

Why do they torment us!? They give us imports and the ESRB rated Earthbound over a year ago, They could certainly appease us and give us Earthbound. Or they could Translate Mother and sell it for $15 dollars. I'm sure most of us would find it reasonable enough for that game.

Nintendo US knows that the gamers here want Mother 3 -- and the title character shows up in SSBB. Those few US gamers who don't know about the Mother series will start to ask, Who is this Lucas? And Nintendo will be shouldered with the responsibility to release the game in the US very soon in order to prevent rioting in the streetz. Thus I conclude that a Mother 1, 2, and 3 pack will appear when WiiWare is released in May. Remember you heard it from me first.
