More On Machinarium
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 4:30 PM on March 8, 2008
Loads of you seemed to dig Machinarium when we posted some stuff on it the other day, which is great. So here's some more. Hope you like it. The story revolves around a cute little unnamed robot, who's thrown out of his robot town, then has to stop an evil brotherhood from blowing up the leader of the town, all the while trying to rescue his girl-robot-friend. Gameplay-wise it'll be a textbook point-and-clicker, same as Samorost, although developer Jakub Dvorský says it'll be bigger and "much more complex". Oh, and yes, like I said last time, those screens are real: the entire game, animation included, is hand-drawn (new screen above). Loads more info, like what inspired the game, how it'll differ from Samorost and what else the Amanita Design team are up to, is at the link below.

I bought Samarost 2 and loved it, but I'm not very happy that this game is going to PC. I have a mac!

As a huge fan of Samorost I can't wait to get my hands on this game. All hand drawn? Sweet.

@Gladman: Go play with their other creations, you'll see what they can do.
I am definitely looking forward to this.

The style of this game and the other by the same guy(s) is just unbelievable. It's like a Tim Burton/Schaeffer wet dream.

@Gladman: I have to disagree, this seems like one of those games where the animation will work very well.
Compare it to games like Full Throttle and Broken Sword: Full Throttle had some nice graphics and a very distinct style overall, despite a limited amount of animations, and Broken Sword looked like an animated movie, even if the quality wavered a bit at times.
Now, Machinarium's style looks suitably "robotic": rusted, worn, metallic etc. It "works", at least in those stills. I don't know about the rest (story, gameplay and so on), but if they can keep the graphics consistently good and use enough animation, I'm cautiously optimistic.

I can't see the animations working well in this game.

The industry needs games like this as much as we need oxygen. But i wonder if the market for these kind of games will ever be big enough to support even more diversity.

Anyone interested in this game should also check out the other games they did. You can see Samorost 1 and 2 here:

They are really cool. The first one is free and I think the second one is a demo. There is an option to buy the full thing, but I never finished what they had on the site to know if it is the full think or not.

Color me excited ***jazz hands**.
S&M didn't really do it for me. I would like my adventures to be epic a la; Gabriel Knight/Space quest.
Yes, Space quest is epic in my book. Naysayers can go home, your not allowed on the premise.
