Peter Moore Finally Gets His Blog On
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 6:30 PM on March 18, 2008
Sure, he announced it last month, but Peter Moore's only just gotten around to launching his blog for reals. Sadly, there's no candid tell-all on why sex scandals drove him out of Microsoft or why he's gotten a bitchin' Jungle Strike tattoo across his belly. What is there is less of the promised "inside look at EA Sports" and more a loose collection of on-message PR, which is a little disappointing, if not totally unexpected. Still. Plenty of time for the self-confessed "neophyte blogger" to learn the ropes and get to posting all the juicy rumours he hears about John Riccitiello's wife around the executive water cooler.

Peter Moore on his blog: "My goal is provide you with a more consistent and predictable quality experience with everything that we develop for you…"
EA, if they are nothing else, are consistently predictable and evidently Moore has been assimilated. He even looks like Locutus of the Borg.

John Riccitiello has a wife?! Wonders never cease. I always assumed he batted for the other side.

@phloog: It should be mentioned that both the Dreamcast and 360 suffered because the people at the top had no idea what gamers wanted. See: the eventual painful death of the DC and obvious QA issues with the 360.
Moore has had the bad luck of being the meat in the sandwich.
I don't doubt his EA role has afforded him the ability to actually conduct business the way he wants.
Let's not forget that amongst any console ever, the DC is at the very apex of what is considered a fantastic product that was killed by profit motives and smart moves by the opposition. Further, the 360 has a goddamn awesome attach rate, suggesting that its owners actually buy their consoles to play games on.

I'm sorry, but I'm lost as to how this guy still manages to both have a successful career AND be seen as somehow credible with gamers.
He was a big shot at Sega during the DC days, completely blew it, then when they were left with few options other than moving to software only, he gets credits for genius.
He moves to MS, where he's shockingly able to build up a business, aided only by the clout and finances of Microsoft. While there, he's the guy who tells GAMERS that with respect to backwards compatibility, MS 'Underpromised and Overdelivered'...then had to backpedal like a madman.
This dude might as well sell shoes - he has no understanding of what gamers want, so he's going to read the latest focus group reports and produce yet another incremental upgrade of another stagnant product line...oh....I guess it does make sense that he's at EA.

This guy is an executive who seems to have fallen into a tiny bit of niche celebrity thanks to sites like this. Games are a commodity for him, and he can't seem to personally relate to any kinds of games other than sports titles.
His top-level observations about the business side of the industry might be interesting, but I wouldn't exactly take him as an authority on gameplay or the more artistic side of the industry.

Will not work. I bet blogging take too much time, and braincircuits. This guy has something more insteresting to do: create games.
