After a receiving a slew of inquiries concerning the Street Fighter IV kit, we called our Japanese distributor to make sure they had the pricing correct. Unfortunately, there was an error in their offer. Please note that Japanese distributors are only allowed to sell the entire network kit which consists of four complete Type-X2 + HDD sets, the VS Communication Kit, four control panels, and 100 Network I.D. cards. Our supplier assumed they would be able to split the kits up and parcel them out one-by-one. Due to the change in terms, we have closed this preorder offer for the time being. If a true single-user kit is made available for preorder, we'll update accordingly. Thanks.

@Sloopydrew: Yes, considering they are $1.00/play now. In the mall hallway or a small center both, or at the movies, bowling alley or skating rink. I can see those getting enough traffic.

@DasKonstruct: (disclaimer: this is from memory and i'm incredibly tired right now so if there is something slightly wrong...mea culpa) the taito type x2 is just a pc, yes, which means that emulating it will be easier because it doesn't have to be emulated. type x2 games are essentially a hard-drive and a security key and the system itself is windows. therefore so long as the security key is hacked the game can conceivably be played on any windows pc with enough power. case in point- recent iidx releases. with a dump of the iidx harddrive for any release past 9th style and a hacked executable it can be run on a standard windows pc.
so i'm definitely not saying its going to be easy or happen tomorrow, but it won't take 10-15 years.

@Strangelove: Sometimes price is not a factor. Frivolous purchases are fine if you can really afford it and you want to treat yourself. :)

There is something about a real arcade cabinet for some games, and while the good old Nintendo d-pad is one of the greatest things ever created (I don't like the the ones on the 360 and PS controllers), there is a lot to be said for a solid arcade stick. Heck, I own an X-Arcade stick, and while it is an excellent piece of hardware I still can't deny the whole cabinet package.

Yeah, I'll probably be buying either a MAME cabinet or something like the Ms. Pacman/Galaga/Pacman cabinet when I build a house. BTW, great call on the Star Wars arcade machine, those things are classic.

there won't be emulation for the taito x2 for at least 10-15 years. The fact that the board is the equivalent to a top end PC now makes the idea of emulation laughable. I'll be waiting for the console release and those hoping for a free solution can seriously forget it. I shudder to think of a taito x2 burning out due to someone trying to dump it.

I actually prefer a d-pad to a joystick for fighting games, myself. I find it more precise and easier to double-tap (i.e. to sidestep in Soul Calibur).

I'm sure people have varying tastes, and one of my dreams is to put together a MAME cabinet for Marvel Vs. Capcom/etc., but I couldn't justify spending $2600 for a single game. (Although, admittedly, I spend like $700 at launch for the original XBox just to play Halo.)

Another cabinet I would love to buy: The old-school vector-graphics Star Wars. Believe it or not, an antique store in my hometown had an original Star Wars cabinet for sale at $100 in the mid-90s. Alas, I was a teenager and didn't have that kind of money. Today, I'd buy that shit in a heartbeat.

@Strangelove: True, but with a real arcade cabinet you can get the best controls for those kinds of games. A friend of mine owns several arcade machines and while I can buy most of those games on XBLA online for a few bucks, the control and feel just isn't the same thing.

Plus they look awesome in a game room. :)

I got excited for a second until I realized it wasn't for the whole thing. At first I was thinking there is no way that can be right; just the Namco or Nintendo triple game cabinets alone are worth around $2500 (and totally awesome).

@reddevil3: If you were rich it probably means that to obtain your wealth you would have learned what it means to earn money as well as what it means to lose money.

The electricity costs alone to run a room of arcade machines would probably deter you from ever going through with it.

Just get a MAME compatible joystick and play it on your computer. Its not the same, but it's less of a headache... plus its something you can do RIGHT NOW!

After reading the headline I thought, damn I could buy one of these and potentially flip it. Now I don't know squat about arcade games, but I'm sure that $2600 for an arcade game is CHEAP. Then I read the fine print and realized that it was only the hardware. Eek.

I don't even have a place for a damn arcade machine in my apartment (its 550 square feet) but if it was $2,600 I sure as sh*t would have pre-ordered it.

I'd rather blow the $2600 on a tricked out rig than the guts for one arcade game. You could get quad-core, SLI, etc. for that price.

These prices are about par for the course on new arcade game kits these days. I suspect a number of places around here will get these, if for no other reason than the relative lack of new arcade releases around here.

Heh, don't count on a new Taito board to be emulated anytime soon. This is the same hardware running KOF XII, the new SamSho, BlazBlue, Battle Fantasia, etc.

This would've been sweet to put in my old Neo Geo sitdown cab, but there's no point in buying a Japanese PCB when an all-English version is sure to arrive stateside a little later, at a more attractive price.

Arcades now just cater to the hard core. They usually have a dedicated band of regulars who play in them and host tournaments and the like.

The ones that are left.

On the positive side, they are usually very clean and the machines extremely functional. They'll probably get a copy of this game at the arcade I go to in Southern California.
