RumbleSeat, The Gamer's Loveseat
Posted by Mark Wilson at 5:20 AM on March 15, 2008
We've all seen the seats with built-in speakers, but they are severely limited. While a couch is multifunctional—prepared for an impromptu nap or make-out session—current gaming chairs offer a more narrow seated existence good only for one person in one position.
The $US 248.95 RumbleSeat offers vibrate-y gaming for two. While not hooking directly to your console, it will serve as an additional set of speakers for your television. And just imagine sitting next to your best friend after beating Army of Two, your rears sweating on the baby blue microfiber cover, the musk of another's Cheeto breathe entering your nostrils...good luck capturing that awkward sexual tension on a unicycle.

@PapaBear434: Look here to see what I mean, if you don't know.
Oh I know what those old CRT consoles were. Our TV when I was a kid was one my parents bought right after they were married and while fairly new in the 80s it would look laughable now.
I used to sit on a pillow or later bean bag chairs when on the floor for playing with my NES.
Still seems foolish to have speakers in a chair. Seems even more foolish to spend $250 on one.

@battra92:
They were rather useful back in the day when I was a kid. I had one of the solo ones (leather bound, no vibration or speakers though.)
They were useful because back then, most decent sized TV's were still the console style. The big honkin' ones with their own cabinet that sat independently on the floor.
Look here to see what I mean, if you don't know.
With most of these TV's (which were the big screens of the day,) the best place to sit and game was on the floor directly in front of them. That, of course, was a literal pain in the ass. The hard floor, even though the carpet and padding, wouldn't really do much during those marathon sessions of Megaman 2, A Boy and his Blob, and Captain Skyhawk.
That's where these "gamer chairs" were great. I got one from my folks one Christmas, and I was about the happiest kid ever. Down in our finished basement/family room, I had my own leather bound throne.
Yes, they don't make much sense in this day in age, where even big CRT's are of an acceptable weight to put on an entertainment center and thus elevated off the ground. And more and more of flat panel LCD's and plasmas are simply mounted on the wall, making it so every comfy seat in the living room has a great view. But back in the day, when huge console style Zenith's roamed the living rooms, these things were a must for those of us kids who didn't want to grow up with compacted lumbar disks from sitting on thinning and worn carpeting of the family entertainment area.

Firstly this looks like it would just about comfortably fit one average gamer arse.
Secondly, $248?!? They're really gouging for some plywood, a couple of car speakers and some padding. In the UK the singe seater version is supposed retail at £80 ($160), but I've seen it discounted down to £20 ($40) - that should give you an idea of the true value of the seat (probably less than $10 in raw materials).

Where's the arm rest? If I'm gaming, I need my arm rest. And it looks like a car seat to me. :/

I don't understand why chairs marketed toward gamers are always these awkward floor rockers. I bought one for my very first apartment because I was near broke and wanted something slightly resembling a couch that would fit my budget. Sure it's comfortable to sit in, but have you ever tried standing up? It's the most awkward pose to try and get into the standing position from.

Tactile transducer pucks for the win. More than enough bass to numb and disorient if you're so inclined, and they can be bolted onto anything with a frame.

What bothers me most is that it's not even a real sofa. You're still basically sitting on the floor. Might as well just get a bean bag chair and put your subwoofer right up against it.

Also when have rumbling bass and intimate moments ever gone hand-in-hand, so to speak (or hand-in-lap)? I mean, I felt a special tingle when all that shit was blowing up in the Matrix, but that was entirely different.

I have a totem acoustic drum,(same idea a tube about ten inches wide about 12 inches long)
jammed it into my bean bag chair and I must say it actually adds to the gameplay experience when loaded with a 5.1 system

That either requires a tiny "buddy", a very willing/understanding/open-minded significant other, or a fat ass + incredible optimism.

I always thought it might be cool to hang out with video game reporters. Figured they'd be great fun to talk to and would have good insight into the game, as well as being good at multiplayer and not sore losers.
Now I'm thinking...maybe it's not as cool as I thought. Maybe it'd just be weird.
Very very weird.

I'm not trying to be mean or facetious but who really buys these "gaming chairs?" To me they just seem like something that rich kids ask their parents for as a status symbol on the elementary school playground bragging contests.
