I'm pretty sure that Linden Labs has never turned a profit on SL, and certainly not the kind of profit that would be really interesting to a VC hawk like Rosedale. It was his pet project, but he's getting out while the getting's good.

@TC: i'm pretty sure you can only customise your own apartment area, not the lobbies or public areas, and even then you can probably still report people.

the worst thing about SL though is how the media is so fascinated with it and how it's supposed to be an online world where you have complete freedom and everyone's happy in their little utopia. in reality it's a gathering of the absolute lowest, most depraved and obscure members of society. i saw a news program on channel 5 a few weeks ago which at the end said they were going to have a debate in second life so anyone could come along and join in, i only hope it turned out the same way as the one in the picture above.

@mr_dimsum: Because we all pretty well understand the story here. Things start spiraling out of control, the leadership switches over from the diluted visionaries to "I Have a MBA!" guy; actual community continues to slog (or, in SL's case, yiff) along.

Suddenly one day it rains penises and movie posters from 300 everywhere. It was amusing, yet it makes me worry if PS3's Home will get exploited and grieved the same way.

I miss my days making Second Life a living hell for everyone. To bad they banned me for life. Good times, good times. Btw, the penises weren't as fun as the massive doomsday mega man bomb (made millions of giant squares to crash a part of the SL world). Anyway, I miss those days. =(

Second life is such a piece of shit. People kept telling me to try it out, so I did. It's barely usable on my system. The frame rate is too low and the texture load takes minutes. I found a graph and, if correct, shows that Second life runs like crap even on decent hardware. Oh, and what's the point? I couldn't find a weapon anywhere!
