Fresh from Apple's SDK presentation last week, here's footage of Spore running, in real-time, on the iPhone. Appropriate use of accelerometer, restrained employment of touch-screen technology, nice graphics...yes, yes, this all appears to be in order.
soooooo it comes out in 2010, MAYBE!!!?>?????!?!????!?!

I don't understand: Why show an FMV cut scene? I mean, his reason doesn't make sense. A customized spore can't be represented in pre-recorded FMV because you would have to record and include every possible permutation as a different video... so it basically just reveals this demo as lacking substance, which is something he spent a good bit of time trying to avoid by mentioning all that they had working behind the scenes. Sure, it does't drag it down to the "Final Fantasy VII FMV on PS3 tech demo" levels of "useless fluff," but it is pretty pointless.
@alextz: ??? why would apple show off something that you are required to hack their device in order to use? The whole point of this presentation was the opening up of the iphone to 3rd parties.

Looks like a rip off of Flow on the PS3 but with some more bells. Im not seeing what the big deal is about.
Just because the I-phone can graphically execute well doent make the game good, or worth buying. I think folks get too wrapped up in graphics for phone games and end up with lousy gameplay.

Looks really good! Who knows if the game will be any good, but at least Apple can make games look like they're awesome games! But the iPhone is just as much as a PS3! So, there's no way I would pay that much for an iPhone, plus the monthly contract!
Yes, the SDK programs will work on the iTouch as well - but iTouch owners will have to pay another $20 firmware update fee to let them download / use apps when it comes out in June.

Really dumb question, but I haven't seen the answer anywhere so far..... does the SDK and these games also work with the Itouch? The camera (Iphone) could be used for some really neat augmented reality stuff...
Everyone's saying it looks like Flow now. You do know that Jenova Chen said he worked on Spore for a little while, right?
But I've never seen Flow do the stages AFTER you get out of the water.

The DS version is completely different. From the previews, Ive seen that the DS version is based on the graphical style of Japanese paper cutout puppets, and strictly deals with the creature stage and tracking down parts to fix your spaceship. As for this iPhone version, from what I have seen so far, it looks exactly like a port of the mobile version of the game that they announced earlier this year. Seems like they just tossed in different controls and reworked the graphics to be more beveled.

@DaiMacculate: Yea, for being in development "2 weeks", this seems awfully polished. I agreed that this looks like the DS port, however, this game was also written in Objective-C. They could've been workign on this for some time already, in anticipation of the SDK.

Yeah, I definitely exhausted my interest in the "swim-around-and-consume-stuff-to-augment-your-avatar" mechanic after playing through flOw. Here's to hoping for A LOT MORE THAN THAT from EA. /weep
I imagine they probably just took the DS version and ported it. I don't think you could do much more in 2 weeks unless you abandoned all life, food, and sleep. Or had a huge-ass team that somehow magically managed not to step on each others' toes.

@suburbancowboy: 2 weeks...and all 18 levels of this version were "playable", I'm sure it doesn't represent final gameplay though, and there is probably a reason (unstable) that they only showed 2 levels and just a bare minimum of character editing.
So I guess what I'm saying is, nobody should assume from this that the final gameplay will work or look like it does in this video. This is a Tech Demo at best.
Wow. Don't let your spore bump into things bigger than you. He bumped into an enemy and got damage. No life or death struggle for survival on a Darwinian scale. Just a bump, and some damage.
I'd rather see Sega port Seaman over to the phone than this.
I'm still having a hard time seeing the iPhone as a more serious gaming platform then any other cellphone. Just about any game I've seen revealed so far is a clone of another casual cell game or a novelty. It's a good start, and a great addition for anyone who already has one. But I don't see any games like this being enough of a draw to bring in gamers switching their current cell and/or provider.
I personally wouldn't pick one up until 3G support and more storage, but that's just MHO. It will be interesting to see how developers will commit to specific iPhone games when it has a much smaller install base when compared to other cell platforms. It may be awhile before we see some truly 'original' titles. But hopefully this and the rumored PSPhone will give the market the boost it needs.

Yeah, based on this video I have no reason to believe that the iPhone version of Spore is anything more than flOw with less boring visuals (i.e. more colorful), and a character editor of sorts. Where's the rest of the stuff that the full PC game will have?

@Sabre_Justice: Okay, no more long name.: Yeah I was trying to tell people that way back when they put up Spore DS screens, everybody was judging it to be crap (and I said myself the images were just low quality), but I think this could be as much fun almost as the PC version. Definitely looks way better in this vid, actually being played, than the screen shots.
Still not enough to sell me on an iPhone...but its closer ;)
@ixalon: I don't think there'll be any land levels. He said that this was level 16 out of 18 (or 19) and it was still in the water. This is probably a flow-clone in the spore franchise :)

Yeah, it does look like it behaves very much like a cartoony version flOw but where your evolution is in your own hands (not a bad thing!) It looks fun, as it could add a nice level of strategy to the game. :)
Will be interesting to see if the land-based levels differ in gameplay.

Wow, looks nice! I can see why they went with the more cartoony look, it's less graphics intensive on less powerful hardware while still looking nice.
Not bad! I hope there'll be a way to purchase and play this game without having to remove the jailbreak on the device.
