Sega's Incredible Hulk Doesn't Mess With A Good Thing
Posted by Mike Fahey at 5:20 AM on March 14, 2008
With my Iron Man excitement gland working overtime lately, I've not paid much attention to Sega's other upcoming Marvel movie video game, The Incredible Hulk. Remember how awesome Radical Entertainment's The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction was? Well apparently developer Edge of Reality does as well, as Sega's Incredible Hulk features the same sort of open-world gameplay with film-centric events wrapped around a symphony of destruction on a scale only the Hulk could conduct. You can use cars and such as weapons, participate in mini-games, and build up your rage to learn more powerful moves. Just ignore the movie connection and consider this a very pretty Ultimate Destruction 2.

Truer words have never been spoken. This might be the first Sega game I actually buy in more than 6 years. HULK SMASH!

I was very scared after not seeing or hearing anything about this game when the release date is only a few months away. This post has made my day. Hulk: UD was fantastic, and now possibly another rare thing might happen, a good sequel to a superhero game.

Hell yeah, I've always wanted to destroy a city with Cal Rip...um...The Hulk. I hope it gets some nice physics in it, or I think the crashing/bashing might get stale.

is this really considered UD2? Or is this a Movie Game Promotion for the new Hulk Movie coming out this summer?

@DaiMacculate: From what I have heard, the game is equally troubled, development fell at least a month behind and they will barely make the summer release this year. Marvel wouldn't budge and let Edge of Reality finish the game for release after the film and Marvel is the party at fault for things getting behind schedule, there was a lack of communication on their behalf. Edge of Reality is quite a competent team, so this game is in good hands, but I wish they did not have to crunch to complete the game. However it turns out, Hulk is certainly going to be miles better that Secret Level's crapfest called Iron Man.

As long as it's a shiny new spin on Ultimate Destruction I'm game.
It'll be even sweeter if they add a side mission to have the Hulk track down message board bashers.

Also: did you know "Schwarzenegger" is in the spell-checker? That's scary.

what we really need is a Hulk AND spiderman game. you can fight each other, or partner up.
they both work really well in a open-world game context, even though they both have completely different methods.

Edware Norton totally ruins the new movie for me. I can't look at him and not think of some more serious role than a cheesy comic book movie.
And why the hell make another Hulk movie ? What more are you going to add as a director ? There will be a big Hulk, thrown cars, battling of monsters, and explosions/shockwaves. The movie in a nutshell.

@velvet396: "Strength Accurate"? I'm not sure what that even means. He can't swing a building around, because a building should fall apart under it's own weight if you picked it up. Destroy some buildings? That I'd like to see.
Want to know what would make for a next-gen Hulk? Allowing him to smash THROUGH buildings. Not just run up them or on them, but actually smash through those windows and jump IN the skyscraper.

Sega isn't developing this game, some lame studio is. Ironman and this one will prob suck or suck compared to the other Sega games this year.
- Viking Battle for Asgard
- Sega Superstars Tennis
- Condemned 2 Bloodshot
- The Club (Yeah i thought it was awesome!)
- Yakuza Kenzan! (if it makes it over here this year, 2 is already confirmed for later in the year)
- Valkrie of the Battlefield
They have like 10 more solid titles this year, but I'm not in the mood to post them so a idiot can go 'OMG SEGA SUCKS CAUSE OF SONIC', cause all Sega makes is Sonic games right?

@NoBullet: That Sega needs to take lesson from Awesome.
Awesome says it's more fun to jump to the top of a building than to walk.
Awesome says that even the smallest particle matters.
Awesome says that a traffic cone, propelled fast enough, can kill someone.

I still side with Ed Norton until proven wrong, because Marvel with the (hopeful) exception of Iron Man has not been doing good movies lately.

@QualityJeverage: Greatly improved everything? Not based on the hands-on preview that X-play had a few weeks back. It looked like they kept the same basic concept, but it looked unfocused and repetitive. Plus the color scheme was an unrelenting grey and they were trying to be 'edgy'. The game looked kind of dull, to be honest. And the moral ambiguity? Not really a selling point to me (although they stack the deck by making all the factions generally evil, so you can feel OK about killing them indiscriminately).
Ultimate Destruction worked so well because of the freedom and mechanics of being the Hulk. Prototype might live up to that hype, but it's got a ways to go to live up to Ultimate Destruction's precedent.
