Square Enix Going After Elderly With Internet
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 2:00 PM on March 19, 2008
Square Enix internet fun! The RPG factory has hooked up with internet provider Nifty to build and operate a web portal for Japanese folks. Nifty will provide internet expertise, while Square Enix will provide content and hairstyles. Besides typical Square Enix fans, the web portal hopes to attract new users, namely females and seniors. Final Fantasy Golden Years Chronicles Arthritis Within anyone?

Wait what, hairstyles? Sorry SE, but given all the impossible hairstyles your characters have shown off over the years makes me doubt you're much of a capacity there.

Wasn't it Square Enix who said that the Internet was too complex for users? It was in context to the "hardcore consoles NEEDING" (which they don't) a broadband connection which made it more "complex" for users. It was around when Dragon Quest 9 was announced for the DS.

To be fair, FFXI would be a great game for old people.
They'd spend hours grinding and grinding and still have fun because they won't remember past the last 5 minutes!

Update:
Final Fantasy VII: The Later Years coming to US shores.
The story follows an elderly Cloud who is stricken with Alzheimer's disease gathing a group of adventures, new and old, to fight the threat of Sephiroth's imminent return.
I wouldn't expect to see Tifa's flat funbags bouncing around in this one.

So, Square-Enix has completely and utterly given up on pretending that there's a real reason for the FF's not showing up on VC? Because this completely obliterates the whole "The internet is too confusing!" excuse.

I pictured Square Enix chasing down terrified old folks with an internet.

Why need the internet when Dragon Quest is all they need? Give 'em VIII and they're set for quite awhile when the children don't visit.

Does that mean my dream of seeing a crossover between Final Fantasy and the Golden Girls might actually come true?
I bet Blanche would be the heroine, because we know how the leading man always has a gigantic sword...
