So is there any possible way to get the Shinra Membership card now?
@Byakko:
I think you're reading a little too much into the game.
PSN ID: Kadaj24
WEll, it's only a 25 hour drive from NE Kansas to the Metreon in SF so....anyone in the area wanna go w/ me?!!?! ROAD TRIP!
PutAside
Damn it, my flight out of California is on Sunday morning. If only I'd known...
DTJAAAAM
@StevenRafael: I think he's referring to this new character Gaea in Crisis Core/DoC or whatever who wasn't even in the original FFVII game anywhere.
Darth_Mall
@Byakko:
I wonder who you're referring too, because I can't remember...
StevenRafael
@onidavin:
They already cloned FFVII. It's called FFXIII.
Aside, FFVII would appeal to me more if they didn't constantly beat me over the head with its 'subtle' Judeo-Christian symbolism.
For gawd's sake, someone explain to me why space aliens would have feathered wings in SPACE!
You want to do space opera in a pseudo-medieval-sci-fi setting, okay. You want to do supernatural Gaea-earthmother magic whatever with links to theology, okay.
You just don't mash them together just so you have an excuse to create a character with an odd-numbered set of wings who is 'subtly' named and then explain it away with SCIENCE.
Byakko
@Paul_Soth: I am afraid, good sir, that the joke is lost on me. Sorrez.
Darth_Mall
Its spring break and I would SOOO be there.... but I'll be in Disneyland.
The Universe has sort of been against me lately.
talisein
Any Final Fantasy VII fan that actually has a shred of respect for the series should all be deeply offended by everything the "Compilation Project" has done to the VII universe. Each new installment has tainted the original game in more ways than I ever thought possible. I'm going to pretty much ignore Crisis Core like I've ignored everything that is in this project.
Want to know why Squaresoft has never released sequels to their games until X-2? THIS is why...because it's all horrible.
>:(
PathRifter
@Darth_Mall:
And what's the deal with airline food?
Paul Soth
Why don't they just rename it Cash Cow: Final Fantasy VII? They wouldn't need to change the initials at least.
Darth_Mall
@TRT-X:
Yeah, Cloud and Aeris shouldn't meet in this... if they do, there goes the canon.
Zero_
@TRT-X:
I don't know how you've managed to miss everything about it up to this point, but to completely avoid spoilers, if you replay FFVII Aeris and her mom talk about how she fell for someone in SOLDIER before she met Cloud.
fuchikoma
How is Aeris in this? I thought they didn't first meet until VII?
TRT-X
@obonicus: Hey, I dislike all FF games after 7 equally, having extensively played all but IX...I continue to give them a shot though. I probably won't buy the new one for PS3, but I'll at least play it....so yeah ;)
I'm just saying, they've all had numerous problems for me, and not being FFVI is only one of many issues. I just think Square (and Enix) have lost much of whatever once made them great, like a great sports team sometimes you have a good run, like they did through most of the 90s (FFVII is not a bad game, I personally think its 8 where they really went wrong), and then it just ends.
We'll see, I'm still looking forward to trying the new Tactics games, I do still enjoy those ;)
DaiMacculate
Not surprised that the militant fanboys have crawled out of the woodworks to defend their precious baby.
Darth_Mall
Stop complaining,I love FFVII and this is a good prequel, many people enjoy it,I´m gonna do the same.
By the way,my list of favorite FF in that order :
FFVI>FFVII>FFVIII>FFX>FFXII>FFIV>FFI>FFIX>FFII>FFIII>FFV>FFXI
The funny fact is that I loved them all,but if someone punt me with a gun and ask me this order I will give the above list :)

@fullmetal7: Don't worry, FFVI-lovers are like the adventure-game lovers of the 00s, full of misplaced elitism.
Hey, I liked FFVI more than VII, too, but all this '*monocle pops out* Oh my, these brutish FFVII lovers have *ruined* my once hallowed past-time' has been old for a while now.
What we need is a No Mutants-Allowed-style mouth-frothing blog for old square games.
obonicus
If its going to be anything like the last launch party (FFI & II remakes) then it's going to be a massive fail.
calpis
:O holy shit! I want to go =[ if only I had some money a car and someone else to go with so I wouldn't be a TOTAL nerd (just a parcial one because I would be the first person in line XP) oh and I guess I would need a psp too
hrabbit
@fullmetal7: Because it's stale, the story has started to show its age as a cliche cyberpunk melodrama, and I'm starting to get bored of hearing about FFVII spin-offs (AND KH spin-offs) because Nomura has his head up his ass and can't move on?
Darth_Mall
Does anyone else miss the days when each FF was its own complete story that didn't need any additional media to help fill in the gaps? When the idea of direct sequels or prequels to a numbered FF were considered blasphemy?
Yeah, I hate you Nomura =/
Darth_Mall
Oh and to give you all a hint. I got to that event 2 hours early, and probably was about 120 to 130 ish in line I'd estimate. Funny thing is one of the GameSpot crew (they covered the event) ended up in line right behind me.
There were only like... 3 cosplayers :-\
RPGZero
@Darth_Mall: I don't understand. Give us something new? You act like they're only working on FFVII spinoffs. And why the hell would they stop make something that is popular and generating mass income?
fullmetal7
I went to the last event there (FF Anniversary party for FFI on PSP), and while I had a good time and won one of the raffle prizes... Yeah, I don't think they really do enough to justify coming out again.
RPGZero
I wish FF7 would just go away already... seriously
angryoaf
This is one dead horse that's done been beat over and over, a cash cow that's all but dried up.
...The sad thing is they plan to keep on rehashing FFVII stuff till TWENTY-SEVENTEEN. Dammit, it needs to stop already! Give us something NEW!
Darth_Mall
@FancifulUnicorn: The attraction of the remake, at least on my part, is much due to the thought of playing through that game again with next-gen graphics. Kind of drool worthy.
There really hasn't been a knock-out next gen JRPG released yet - so any entries into those waters are welcome.
Besides, I'd really like to replay the game, seeing as how it's been since the PC release that I did, but there's no easy way to get at a copy - lost the PC version and I doubt it works anymore, don't have a Playstation and my PS2 is broken. Buying a PS3 to play the original discs on it (if that even works) or play a remake, well... there's a lot more incentive to buy it for a remake.
sir_carrot
Hey - I live here, for a change. I could so totally go to that... if I wasn't out of town... and the line will no doubt be maxed out before I'd even think of getting there... and... well... I don't know.
Unless they announce FFVII remade, finally, it probably won't be *that* cool.
But they won't.
Cheers to anyone who goes though!
sir_carrot
Someone needs to feed Aeris a sandwich or two, my goodness :\
It's kind of crappy they're giving 100 people a free t-shirt at a 200 person event... just cough up 100 more t-shirts for goodness sake.
I don't know why so many people are clamoring for an FFVII remake.. if anything it's the one game that DOESN'T need a remake due to the complete oversaturation of FFVII related games/media in the last few years anyway.. geez, it was a perfectly fine game as it was.
FancifulUnicorn
Anyword on Advent Children Blu-ray release date?
Dir_en_grey
@Jaziek: The characters done in 3D, or just redrawn 2D HD graphics ala SSF2T HD remix? Because while I have no interest in the former, I could be persuaded to get excited about the latter...if I thought there was a fraction of a chance in Hell of it happening.
DaiMacculate
@Fantus: In the original game, Aeris (or Aerith, I guess?) was really only kind of cute -- in an innocent, reserved sort of way. Like a high school sophomore walking the straight and narrow, working to get nothing but straight A's.
This new picture looks more like her hot older sister you just met at college, and you just can't resist the urge to ask if she wants to meet up for coffee some time.
BtownDesignGuy
I went to the Advent Children movie premiere in LA 2 years ago and it was crowded. I showed up at 4am and was like 10th in line. The CC event won't be as big (I think) but I'd say if you wanna make sure you get in, I'd show up sometime in the morning.
PSN ID: Kadaj24
id be there dumb early if i lived in sf. nyc needs more square events
Konstrix
@The Great Aussie Evil: Commend of the decade!
Flawless101
I went to the Advent Children movie premiere in LA a couple years back. I showed up at 4am and was like 10th in line. Keep in mind the movie wasn't to show until 7pm that night. This event isn't gonna be as big but I'd say show up almost as early. I'd go but I don't wanna drive/fly to SF. I live in SoCal.
PSN ID: Kadaj24
Darn it, it's so tempting, but only 200??
Puchi
Not worth it to risk my life going to the Metreon. That place has become a war zone as of late.
goddessakasha
Square-Enix could make a special edition with all FFs (except that atrocious MMORPG) ever made in one or two Blurays (and if it's possible in HD). That would be awesome.
alecpyron
@DaiMacculate:
aww come on.. you've got to admit that Terra, Locke and the rest of the gang would look pretty sweet in HD.
*drooooooooooooooooooll"
Jaziek
Eh I don't think I'd be interested since the event last time sucked ass compared to Japan.
Roguestriker
@onidavin: I really believe that there are almost as many pure FFVI fans as FFVII fans (and of course alot of cross-over), but we just don't make the same noise on the Internet, begging for a remake.
Perhaps its because fans of 2D FF games were fully satisfied and don't need a remake to justify replaying a decades-old game, but for some reason many of the newer FFVII and beyond players do feel the need for such a remake...
The fanatical hordes of FFVII-heads used to kind of piss me off, honestly, and I still find some of the more ridiculous FFVII fan-service merch a bit disgusting, but as I've aged I've realized that their slavering devotion to the sequel I all but abhor should have no effect on my enjoyment of the earlier games.
That said, I think I'll go play some more FFVI on my DS when I get home ;)
DaiMacculate
The game is out now on the Interwebs!
but no more milking. Square-enix = EA of rpg fans
KaliKOtt
I gave up on waiting for an FFVII remake after 11 years, now I have it running on my PSP...
If FFVII:AC comes out on Blu-ray I'll get it, otherwise I'll wait.
But I'll definitely pick this up. Playing it will just have to wait until I go through the game I bought in the 90s for several months.
fuchikoma
Who's that between cloud and aeries?
slstsang
i'm looking more forward to this game than dirge of cerberus at least...
honestly... we needs us a mole in their finance/marketing department to deceive them making them think that not waiting until they milk out the ff7 franchise and releasing a ff7 remake on xbox 360 and/or ps3 now is the best move
if anything, it'd probably push more sales of crisis core because people who are completely new to the ff franchise won't be able to connect crisis core to ff7 until they play ff7 themselves. and those who are completely new to the ff franchise would probably find it hard pressed to find a copy of ff7 out in stores much less find it even more hard pressed to sit through the game's rather outdated graphics (if they're of the ps2 and later gamer generation most likely).
phrequency
Hmm, I need this game. Too bad I'm nowhere in the area for one of those sweet ID cards.
Magic Emperor Anima
How early would someone have to show up to get in, given the high level of fanboy penetration? I'm a couple hours from SF and a Shinra ID sounds sweet . ..
ericisgreat
I'm a stone's throw from SF. Question @ all y'all: how early would I have to show up to get in, given the potentially high level of fanboy penetration?
ericisgreat
I have to agree with the btown and Jamzy here. I ranked her below Tifa and Yuffie, but here....damn! They probably figured the guys were more feminine looking than she normally is so they had to make her hot.
Here's to hoping my reserve somehow gets shipped to me early.
Kamdori
I'll be there! That tshirt is mine!
demonspawn2578
Milked beyond death? Look no further than any of the Nintendo Franchise.
FF7 just scream remake, the first game that got me into RPG games. I could only imagine what it would look like on a PS3. Man can only dream...
thegunshow
@BtownDesignGuy:
When was she ever NOT hot?
Fantus
Lookin pimpy! Wish they were comin up here to Portland. Can we get a pic of a Shinra ID card when one of us gets one? I want one! :D
Rumbletown
"The first 100 people in line will get a commemorative T-shirt as well as be eligible for some raffle prizes. Only 200 people will be allowed to attend so be sure to get there early!"
Why not give the other hundred people this as well?
ForwardInReverse
Milked beyond death :P
and ff6 > 7
Lokku
They just need to remake VII already. They will have unbelievable sales, people will finally shut up about it, and they can start with new IPs rather than putting out 20+ FFVII games
pd771
I'm not even that into FF7, yet that tank-top Aeris in the picture somehow inspires lust in me. I want to journey into her uncanny valley!
DiscipleofJamzy
@Wyld: Pretty much. But what did you expect at this point?
ekkobi
Why is all this crap in California? Texas needs loving too! And it's bigger! AND it has two+ major developers housed in it!
Thassodar
@onidavin: I preferred FF6 but 7 is the one many played first.
kingmanic
@njhardcoreguy: Which one is that? 2.20? I thought that one wasn't out yet.
Candlejack
oh god!..i need a towel. But why only San Francisco?? Why can't Orlando get some luvin too? meh.
nopposan
When did Aeris get hot?
BtownDesignGuy
@mechanabeshin: It's just you. That's the same, literally the exact same, sword Cloud used in VII.
Amuro1X
Is it me, or do these FFVII swords keep getting bigger?
mechanabeshin
"Launch Event party of my newest milked stuff"
Wyld
I was never really keen on an FF7 remake until I went to replay it a few years back. That game would be pretty sweet with a current-gen face-lift (and some extra bonuses)!
Also, the nerd in me cries that I won't be getting a Shinra ID card... :(
7ucky
Woah! Shinra cards & t-shirts. I wish I could attend.
The game is not nearly as good as Final Fantasy VII, but it's still nice.
QC8472
I live in the Bay Area too man I going to attend this.
Ryosukekun21
:( I want the Shinra ID card! I'm a whore for stuff like that.
Voteforme2020
I think they'll stop releasing FF7 material when the ragged teat of that franchise has not a drop left.
This will happen around the time Square fans die out entirely, which incidentally is the same time that that big 'ol rock smacks into the earth.
...I wish they'd do something new already. FF7 did nothing for me :(
onidavin
This game makes the PSP that much more of an enticing purchase. Coupled with today's PS3 patch.
njhardcoreguy
GAAH! Just release the freaking FF7 remake already, Square Enix!
