Excuse me if this constitutes unwarrantable stereotyping and generalization, but the principle reason why I eschew the 360 is that I have an irrevocably soured opinion of the target demographic or of the archetypal user that derives from personal experience - whether my impressions are accurate or not I can't say. What I mean is that when I think of the stereotypical 360 user, I think of a neckless, rude, crass, coarse, angry, violent, aggressive, arrogant, mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging, senseless, artless, uncultured, bigoted, intolerant, testosterone-laden, jock douchebag. The XBox360 represents gaming for the "cool kids" who don't want to look like nerdy losers; it represents an opportunity for those who have an image to maintain to get into gaming.

The other reasons are as follows:

1. Not actually cheaper when you buy all the things that come with the PS3 by default.
2. Extremely unreliable. i.e. poor quality
3. Just as the PS3 and Wii have a terrible game selection, so too does the XBox360. I don't know why the myth that it doesn't hasn't been thoroughly dispelled yet. Observe: Metacritic 360 scores (note how many are exclusives and how many are FPS's)
4. It was designed by the borg.

We all know that the XBox only became successful because of Halo. It wowed the college crowd (specifically frats and jocks) that had never played videogames before and didn't know that they were actually staring at a run-of-the-mill piece of garbage containing shopworn features.

Heh, for having a long time critical eye against the PS3, this one had almost nothing that fit my view of scepticism. I'm not really against the PS3 itself either, I'm getting one later this year once Europe gets DualShock and hopefully a dollar adaptation in the price as well to match the 360 prices now. No... it's Sony's treatment of the PS3 that has me sceptical such as:

1) Outright lies. "It's not technically possible to have rumble and motion detection in the same controller." Yeah right... Way to prove yourself wrong as soon as the lawsuit with Immersion was settled.

2) Axing of European backwards compatibility. I would be willing to pay more than the price of a PS2 in between to be able to keep them both in one unit.

3) Removal of USB ports for the gimp machine. I mean... it's USB... you could have an internal hub to keep the ports and it would not cost much at all.

4) Constant delays of everything. It's the game industry, so it's bound to happen... but the PS3 seems to get more of them than anything. Home and an improved online interface anybody?

5) European and US dualshock... I mean you can import a japanese Dualshock and use straight up... it's not like you need any new drivers or anything since they're already there. So why the delay?

6) No HD compatible cable in the box. Silly really.... they could at least have included a component cable.

7) Euro pricing. €399 for the 40GB model is $625. Now this is a recent issue due to the decline in the dollar, but still a pretty mean issue. The japanese one at 39980 yen equals $399 as well... so why the European price?

8) Scandinavian "luxury tax". Unlike almost any other company that takes about 10SEK per Euro (real value is about 9.4 and the rest makes up for our slightly higher sales tax), Sony has placed it at 11.25, placing it 12.5% higher that the standard market level. Before the 360 price cut, the price difference between the 360 and PS3 was twice as high compared to the rest of Europe. $746 for the 40GB model is insane. (20GB 360 is $447 in comparison here, making the 40GB PS3 model cost 67% more... quite unlike the 14% more it costs in the US.)

9) Only bluetooth remote. While I love the idea of a bluetooth remote, and will probably love it when I get one... it does not play well with my multi-unit remote that only uses IR signals. This really is a minor issue, but it would be nice if I were able to keep all remotes in one unit even after getting a PS3 for Blu-Ray playback.

Yet, by the end of the day, these complaints still won't stop me from getting one. I could do just as long lists for the 360 and Wii (both of which I own already). So I'm not trying to be a rabid fanboy here. I just found it interesting on how much my view on the PS3s shortcomings differs from the "fanboy's" view according to this movie. But then I felt the same about the Xbox hate yesterday. The Xbox one had more points that overlapped with my view of it than this one did though.

I really don't get much of the hate and I'm not the biggest Playstation fan on the planet to say the least. So the Playstation sucks because of Blasto? yeah, whatever, come up with something better. Most things aren't worth hating anyway.

Again the PSP having one stick? That's not a problem, it's the developers that suddenly are incapable of making games that only use one stick that are the problem. Both N64 and Dreamcast did absolutely fine with just one stick and nobody complained. I don't see dual analog being all that comfortable on a handheld anyway.

Real Sony problems: pushing new movie standards I don't want but still make the console twice as expensive as it should be, that's worth hating. A controller that hasn't changed in a decade is a problem. No, that's not because it's that good but because they're lazy. The worst thing is that they advertise it as the next big thing. Seriously, analog buttons that feel digital? Did someone actually buy that? Motion controls but no rumble, com on Sony!

Honestly the playstation's joypad has always given my hands cramp. I'm happiest with the 360's though i firmly recognise that the DPAD is shocking and there's room for improvement in other areas.

@Blinkman: Yup... I like it better than the 360 controller... As in a LOT better, particularly if you're doing anything OTHER than FPS games, as the D-pad on the 360 is horrible and the buttons are digital and it's not symmetrical.

Between the 360 design and the sixaxis design, it really is a matter of what you're used to. You're used to a stiffer analog stick, so you think that's better. I'm used to a looser one, and I get more control out of it that way. But no one can HONESTLY say the D-pad is better on the 360 controller, and while the new placement of the black and white buttons is an improvement, they don't quite feel as good as the L1 and R1 buttons on the sixaxis / Dualshock / Super Nintendo controller... Sony hasnt' changed it because it isn't broken.

@dexterr: It should of had rumble from the start. Sony just didn't want to pay Immersion Corp and thought they could get away with saying "Rumble is last gen" kinda bullshit. Sony was too big for it's britches and thought it dictated how consoles should be sold. However!!!! The public wasn't ready to give up rumble as Sony wished and Sony ended up settling with the Patten squatters for 150 Million.

ANYWAY... Sony screwed up big time there, but the Dual Shock 3 is so far the best controller Sony has ever come out with. I love the white one I imported and have even gotten a lot of friends to get theirs early. I would say if you have 60 bucks you should pick it up. TOTALLY WORTH IT!

@Cathaoir: Yeah as much as I am a Sony fanboy. I wasn't going to buy a system with something that looked like a retarded Mad Catz controller. So glad they brought back the Dual Shock design. I've used that type of controller since PS1 and have gotten really used to it.

Some of the points are good. IE: Letting Rockstar get away, shotty on-line service to start with (It's not so bad now just a few more thing and it will rock), and they have always been kinda expensive on launch. Other then those though, they really had to reach for some of these.

But it's entirely too small. My hands have gotten sore countless times through high school playing the entire series of Resident Evil (sans RE4) and Metal Gear Solid and I never really blamed the controller... I figured it was just a side effect of holding any.
But after getting a 360, my first Xbox, I found that my hands don't get cramped, I'm just left with a disappointing configuration of buttons and build-quality.

I've always hoped that Sony would made the PS controllers larger, but now I truly wish they would.

This video doesn't even scratch the surface. I just bought the PS3 and there are so many shitty things about it, it's not even funny. The installations are a nightmare, as not only do some games have it, but EVERY DEMO ON PSN has an install time (and I bet downloadable games have it too, but I haven't tried that yet). The system STILL doesn't come with a component or HDMI cable. Hell it doesn't even have an S-Video cable. PSN Store is a complete fucking joke. Some games still don't do scaling right (I'm having stuttering issues with the R&C Future demo under 1080i). Also the startup noise is probably the most hilariously pretentious thing in the universe.

The controller isn't as bad as people said it was, however, and it can only improve. The sixaxis functionality is pretty shitty, though.

If I had bought just a PS3 and none of the other systems I'd be pretty pissed. I mean I never thought the 360 or the Wii were real prizes either but they look really competent next to the PS3.

@dexterr: Yeah but the point it was trying to make is that rumble wasn't coming out at all because it was "a last Gen feature" until they got their asses handed to them in court, payed the settlement and made nice with Immersion. Of EVERYTHING I'd say that the rumble fiasco was Sony's lowest moment of corporate tap dancing around what was a GLARING omission in the PS3 that was a result of piss poor decision making on the part of Sony execs and Sony legal.

It does. There is a wide variety of software title available for that system.
The dickhead idiots probably only make up about half of the install base followed closely by the pre-mid pubescent boy demographic. Somewhere in there is a group of people made up of otherwise intelligent gamers who purchased the 360 for reasons I can't fully comprehend.
Perhaps for the same reasons I bought one. To try and be open minded and give it a chance. I was quickly reminded thou of why Microsoft has no business in the gaming industy.
The money I spent on that POS would have been way better spent on new computer hardware.

@boilermaker11: Resistance -was- a crappy game. I suppose it depends on how many shooters one has played though (as PS has never had a glut of good shooters on it). In all ways it was average at best.

That being said most points in both videos are stupid. The one point that was missing from the PS3 video is that , if like me, you were stupid enough to buy the PS3 after owning the 360 for years there has really only been 2 games worth playing since launch, 3 if you count DMC4 (which I don't).

Damn. Would it've killed them to make the vid two or three times longer so my brain can actually comprehend what's being shown? It's too early for that. Honestly, I had to pause it on practically every slide.

And I hate PlayStation/Sony, but yeah...they're really getting desperate for excused to hate PlayStation in this vid. I could come up with far better reasons. Some of these are valid, but most of them are just stupid. I do think that the giant enemy crab is one of the funniest things in the history of video games, though. I'm surprised that they didn't touch on real-time weapon change, though.

In fact, I kinda wish that marketing campaigns for games on other consoles would poke fun at it by showing such features being possible on other consoles, namely on Wii. Marketing campaigns just need to be a bit more clever.

i own both 360 n ps3, and the reasons for hating both are, for the majority, pretty legitimate. however, i am always scared to purchase games for 360, because more than likely i will encounter a problem, or just become completely overwhelmed with fear of the RRoD. all in all the points for both systems were good. looking forward to tomorrows hate video on nintendo.

The buttons are digital? It's almost as if that doesn't matter at all. 360 D-Pad is certainly awful, but I would say it makes up for it in ergonomics. The joystick design is better, the tops are formed to your fingers, not the other way around. It's easier to manipulate a cupped joystick than a domed one, and I don't think that's a preference, though it isn't a problem for people really anyway.

I only need 5 reasons to hate on SONY (not just for gaming) -

1 - The controller for PS2/3 sucks when using DUAL ANALOGS. HI FIVE FOR MY THUMBS! Sorry, it really starts to become apparent after playing on GC/OXbox/360. Tried playing skate (with its frames dropping like flies) and saw my thumbs head butting eachother. No thx, k, cya!

2 - The games for PS3... where are the GOOD, QUALITY, EXCLUSIVES? Rpg's dont count either, too boring for my taste. If I wanted to read, Id grab a book.

3 - My PSP... I think it has been V. 1.5 forever. I use it to play emulators and Lumines... THATS IT. Sorry, all that extra crap with the firmware updates are worthless to me. I have a laptop that does the same stuff and can connect wirelessly without a router, thanks.

4 - "okay, so I have a ps3 and so do you... but yours doesn't play my old games like mine does???? WHY??? WHY DID YOU DO THIS SONY???"

5 - Sony and their inifinite wisdom of creating new proprietary formats. Love how many types of memory sticks there are. And how is everyone's minidisc doing? What about Hi-MD? No??? Look it up.

Give me a PS3 for 200, 250 and I would consider it.

Essentially, I agree in a way. The Dual Shock is better for some things. Any game that requires an analog though, id go with the 360 controller any day. Mainly becuase it has the left analog placed as the primary instead of the dpad(ie. where the dpad is located on the DS, the 360 has the analog making it the dominant control option) So instead of limiting it to just fps, id say that any 3D game in general is better on with the xbox controller. The lower analog on the DS cramps my hands and makes it so I cant play longer than 20minutes at a time if a game requires its use.

That being said, I love 2D gaming and the dpad is just horrid on the 360, partly becuase of the same reason, placement, and partly because its just crappy to begin with. The rest of the buttons, well, thats up for grabs. I dont realy like the bumpers, but I really hate the analog shoulder buttons on the sixaxis as well. Always seem to accidentaly hit them when im playing a game, its damned annoying.

In the end, id say that both are pretty equal and as you say, its realy down to preference. For me, its dependent on game type itself.

Now on the PS3, I have all of 6 games that I bought, 3 of which I hate. Of the 3 I like, 1 is a shooter(resistance) If you look at the overall diversity of lineups, you will find that the 360 has more of every genre than any of the other consoles. Its not about percentages, its about quantity. Granted, im willing to bet that the percentages are probably less diverse on the wii and PS3 as well.

Additionally, the idea behind the cost is that the base option was cheaper. I for one didnt need all that extra crap. So Im thankful that I could buy the cheaper console without having to think about all the useless addons like a HD movie player.(ive stated in the past that I find bluray useless in terms of movies. Great for games though) Im actually happy MS doesnt force us to buy extra crap from the start. Now if everyone wanted to buy the bonus crap, or even had to, than you have a valid point.

As for this video, it covers most of the major issues. PS1 overheating was huge, I went through 5 of the damn things.(if I have to put it on its side to play, its a dead console to me) It really wasnt until this generation that sony got all the hardware down. Althugh, much like others have said, and much like the xbox video, its a lot of grasping too. They were a bit too nice if you ask me. Sony has had loads of crap over the years.

Almost every point was pretty valid. People are so used to accepting crap shoveled on them though nobody cares. Sony is the easiest company of the three biggies to come up with hate for, it's not like they had to stretch at all.

I'm interested to see the Wii one though, haha. I love the Wii way more than the other systems, but there's a lot to make fun of.

The Legend of Dragoon comment was uncalled for. They really should have thought about it before putting it in this vid as it seemed arbitrary to the point of the video since LoD is a highly regarded RPG on the PS1.

Overall though the video wasn't that funny. Some of the "reasons" were just dumb and some didn't make that much sense. I really would have liked it better if they had actually written an article outlining problems with each of the systems or made a video with them discussing the systems...but I guess this pulls in more page views for them. It's a shame, cause these videos are pretty stupid.

I tend to agree, this one was a bit strange. Not only did it lack some valid points in relation to what the Xbox360 version described, but some of the faults were actually....not a fault.

What the hell is wrong with interchangeable HDDs? I installed a 250GB laptop drive in my PS3 the other day. It cost me 60 bucks. How much do you pay for Microsoft's 360 HDDs again?...

The ratio between PS3 consoles and 360 consoles worldwide is 1 to 1.61. Looking at the sales of games for both consoles they are in the range of 1(PS3) to 2.3(360).

Why isn't the ratio of games being sold close to the ratio of consoles between each? With the PS3 being the Jesus console and owning Japan and on it's way to owning Europe, why is there an extra 69% more game being sold on the 360 above where the 360 is equalized to the PS3 at the ratio of 1.61?

@JKPierce: The difference between digital buttons and the pressure sensitive buttons would be clear if you've played games like Silent Hill 3 and 4. 3 was PS2 exclusive, and the pressure sensitive buttons played a part in how you attacked. In 4, being a multiplatform game, they couldn't do anything PS2 specific when they had to get it to the X-box, could they? Well, The attacks weren't quite as controllable.

An example of a similar phenomenon could be found recently in Unreal tournament. Every console specific FPS I've played has the ability to alter your walk speed by incrementing the analog, but UT3 does not... Why? Because the walk forward and backward on the PC version is DIGITAL... It's little things like that...

Also, the convex vs concave design is a non-issue entirely. What is an issue is that the 360's sticks are stiffer, while the sixaxis has looser sticks. For that, it is a matter of what you're used to. A matter of preference, and I prefer the design that's been used since PS1, the Dualshock / sixaxis design.

@kent_f: Yeah, this video was crap compared to the 360 video. I don't think they tried as hard to bash Sony. Plus many of the complaints were for PS1, PS2, and the PSP - boring! If you're going to bash Sony, bash the PS3. All their other consoles have met with great success.

1. Sony claiming that "rumble is a last-gen feature".

2. Some big 2007 Sony's titles turned out to be average (e.g. Lair, Heavenly Sword)

3. Delaystation (FFXIII in 2008..9..10?)

4. Crappy online integration (where's Home?)

5. Sony exec arrogance (e.g. Jack Tretton's infamous quote: "If you can find a PS3 anywhere in North America that's been on shelves for more than five minutes, I'll give you 1200 bucks for it")

6. The launch $600 price tag

7. Crappy ports (e.g. Orange Box)

8. Losing too many exclusives (e.g. DMC4, GTA franchise)

The first playstation is one of my favorite consoles, and I supported Sony last generation as well. Though the PS3 is a bad investment, and is the only new console I don't have. I wouldn't say I'm a fanboy or a hater.

With that said, I totally agree with the PSP update things. You shouldn't have to upgrade the software to play the newer games, seeing as how umd games only use the hardware. Forcing people to do it is a scam by them to squash the homebrew market. You suck so hard for that, $ony.

If I had to guess I would have to say its mostly because the PS3 was out for almost a full year without any real good games to play other than resistance. The good games didn't start showing up until last fall.
There is still a lack of great software.
M$ kinda pulled an "ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US" on the development situation.

Secondly I would point to the fact that even if you don't like video games; the PS3 is a great media box and well worth the price tag. Many home theater enthusiasts buy the PS3 with no desire to ever use it for gaming. Not really helping the systems ratio.

Third I would bring up the amazing power of achievement whores who recklessly purchase games with no concern for quality or value because in there mind they think "well even if the games sucks, it's still worth it because I get achievement points.".

PS3 owners seem to carefully analyze each game purchase; especially after that terrible lineup of launch year games. 360 owners didn't seem to mind their terrible launch year titles and I assume it has a lot to do with those stupid ass points.

But thats just my take on it.

Anyway, about the video, I only agreed with about 10-15 things in it. Some things I didn't agree with were mentioned by other commenters, but here are the things I thought were wrong in order of appearence in the clip:

-What's the matter with Clank?
-I found Phil Harrison really likable, but that point is moot now anyway since he is no longer with Sony.
-There's nothing bad about having a hard drive, or am I missing something?
-The $600 price point is irrelevant now that it no longer costs that much.
-I thought having Chewbacca onstage for E3 was awesome.
-The PSP commercials with the squirrels weren't that bad.
-Afrika looks really cool to me and the previews that I read said it seems promising.
-The UMD is ok as a game delivery system just like any proprietary cartridge or disc is (NES carts, Dreamcasts GD ROM, DS cartridges, GameCube discs, etc.), people need to give it a rest.
-How does having GTA IV on another system take away from a PS3 owner's enjoyment of the game?
-What's wrong with Daxter, am I missing something?

-Tomb Raider wasn't/isn't made by Sony so why is it on this list?

I really don't remember my PS3 ever overheating, and this video wasn't as good as the 360 one. But, I have both systems so it really doesn't bother me.

The 360 video was funnier, because it had way more valid points. I wonder what they're going to cook for Nintendo.

It looked like half of the things listed on there were about the PS2, and a quarter were about quotes, the last quarter were about PS3 things. It was not very funny; they just had a bunch of old, tired things for the PS3 one. I'ma look at the 360 one to see if that one was funny.
